@MaxWatersNZ This seems to me a fundamental breach of the basic social contract we expect of migrant citizens: don’t bring your grievances and wars with you, the duty you owe to your fellow citizens far outweighs the duty you owe to your clan in whatever place you came from

@2ETEKA Nats are doomed in their current configuration, but I suppose no political party has a God given right to exist

@ShortStoryTell @moahunter @PronouncedHare An acknowledgment of the fact NZ is now a multicultural multiethnic democracy should be fundamental to everything we do Are we another bumiputera led copy of Malaysia, or are we a Singapore?

@SureshSyed Me neither This New NZ should be a core vote for Nats, the party of NZs modern multicultural and multiethmic democracy, the NZ of the future

@ShortStoryTell @moahunter @PronouncedHare Luxon cannot change our economic trajectory over the short term. But he can change our narrative of national identity Many NZers are proud of our new national reality as a multicultural multiethnic nation, others reject it and want to live in the past It’s ok, you can do that

@RamptonJay1 @Libsofbluesky You think Russia gets to rename the Baltic because of Kaliningrad Oblast? BRICS Derangement Syndrome

@ShortStoryTell @moahunter @PronouncedHare Luxon cannot control economic issues, they will ebb and flow, but he can control the narrative on treaty and race issues. Rejection of the treaty status quo is a stone cold winner issue for Nats Luxon needs to start tapping in the political open goals

@SureshSyed That 30% or so non Māori often relatively recent migration demographic is electoral gold. The 17% of Asian NZers should be locked in for the centre right, Nats ignore them at their peril

@ShortStoryTell @moahunter @PronouncedHare I want a PM who has the political instincts and flexibility to recognise and give effect to a new voter zeitgeist when voters views change. As they have undoubtedly changed in terms of treaty and race issues I want a PM who is not stuck in the past

@moahunter @PronouncedHare This guy is more bothered by the juiciness of a lamb chop than he is by a matauranga Māori requirement that makes our entire university sector an international laughing stock But hey, “don’t rock the boat”

@PronouncedHare 😂 the kid who want to change things is at the end of his tether with the man old behind his years who just wants to live in the false certainties of past

@rotovegas_taane Ratana is a nostalgia trip, like visiting Māori Motat. It’s a political relic. I am fine with letting Ratana and the kingitanga have their moment, so long as we don’t pretend they collectively represent us or even Māori

@rotovegas_taane My perfect NZ national day is one where the PM leads a citizenship ceremony in the morning, has yum cha lunch with the Chinese community, visits a marae in the afternoon and has a bbq by the pool w friends and family in the evening Sweet 😎

No, most NZers are most definitely not cool with that
Each year kicks off weird in NZ. Start on a big high. We enjoy the summer hols. Then Ratana. Politicians b!tch & moan. Then Waitangi. Politicians depressing af. The locals are morons. The media lap it up. It's like the great start never happened. EVERY year. We cool with that?
