I followed Heathers with Ford Fairlane, thinking I had written a brilliant satire of hardboiled machismo with Dice as my Closeau. First scene of first day of shooting, Gilbert Gottfried ad-libs “She was a pig so I fucked her!” Realize I may have miscalculated. Still loved the guy

I’ve taken a lot of both love and bile for this picture but the fact my intentionally misguided blockbuster tinkering helped get a jillion dollar picture a slot in an Indie film fest will always make me smile
BATMAN RETURNS was released 32 years ago today, which is as good an excuse as any for me to once again trot out this piece I wrote in 2018 when it played at the MFA.

Back from seeing John Wick 4 in IMAX. I’m sure, over history, there have been better films. I just can’t seem to think of any. I recall something about a Mafia family where Sterling Hayden played a cop but my memory is clouded. Today John Wick 4 is cinema’s finest achievement.

Be it Donald Cammell’s director’s cut or even the chopped up cut, Anne Heche gave one of my favorite perfs ever in The Wild Side, I got to tell her at a party. She told me Scorcese and Jonathan Demme were similarly effusive. What a tragedy…but track down that crazy movie
