AWESOME NEWS ALERT!!
@HBO
approached 18 artists from round the world and asked them to make something new from pieces of the
@GameOfThrones
history... And one of them was me!! They sent an original prop from the series, and mine was the
#DragonEggs
!
Here's what I created...
With local travel for exercise now allowed, you can see my woodland sculpture trails more easily. These two sculptures are from the trail in Fforest Fawr, Caerphilly. The other two are in Havering and Ellesmere Port if anyone fancies a walk!
All done!! The hatchling dragon, breaking out of the Ash tree. Born of the wood and a fitting tribute to a magnificent tree, sadly killed by ash dieback.
Final season of
@GameOfThrones
starts tonight!! Still can't believe I was commissioned as one of 18 artists to promote the final season! We were each given a prop from the series and and to design something around it! Here's my effort with the dragon eggs!

The tallest tree in Wales got damaged by a storm and was supposed to be cut down, instead chainsaw artist Simon O'Rourke found a better solution to symbolise the tree's last attempt to reach the sky.
Another angle of the emerging dragon I made this week.
It's always sad when a tree dies but I love being able to turn it into art and give it new life!
He's been a long time in the making but here's my latest dragon in redwood, safely installed in my client's garden.
He isn't visible to the public but I'll have some video available soon with a walk around.
What would you name this one?
I've been asked about how I created the hair on my Highland Cow.
It's actually created entirely with chainsaws - basically just deeper cuts. The deeper the cut, the more shadow & sense of depth.
Would anyone be interested in a 'How to' video/ blog? Let me know!

I thought I'd share my Oak father and daughter. The two stand on different fields on the same estate in Surrey, with the father looking towards his daughter.
What a week! It's been one of the most difficult commissions I've done, fitting the leopard to the branch! An uneven surface on the branch meant lifting it on and off the branch multiple times with the machine!
Here it is, the finished Highland Cow!
Thank you for following my progress & for all the encouraging comments.
Several of you have asked about viewing it. I'm not sure yet where my client will install it. If it's visible from a public road, I'll post details. Watch this space!
This weekend was
#InternationalDayofForests
and as they say, there's a sculpture for that! This was a commission for the Maes Y Pant 'Kids Plant Trees' event, and eventually, a tree will grow between the boy's hands.
This little Hawthorne stump was brought to life today! I'd consider this a little sister to the Oak maiden across the field from her...

A very happy customer with the Shakespeare bench! I could have carried on till the twelfth night but nobody would have noticed the difference, so it would have been much ado about nothing. I think it's probably just as you like it.
A few people asking yesterday about the Ellesmere Port Woodland Trail.
It's at Meadow Park, (Dolphin Crescent and Halton Road), Great Sutton and follows the adventures of Ruby the Owl.
If you visit, feel free to tag me in your photos. I always love to see them!
A hydra rising from the ground. An example of rapidly changing plans to work with the natural shape, size, knots, cracks and other ‘quirks’ of the tree.
If you hear of vehicles going missing on the A5 near Bethesda, these photos from the weekend by
@cwo1983
might explain it! I wonder if it's only blue cars he likes to eat?!
Wendy Lloyd Griffiths shared these incredible photos of The Dragon of Bethesda this week. As the oak is ageing it's turning a lovely stony colour, and the texture and details are clearer. I love that using wood as a material means a piece is never 'finished' but always evolving!

Take a duvet, and carefully wrap it around him, then take duct tape and proceed to wrap that around the duvet. This should work for some time.
This chap is 103 today!
The first ever

I made this bench featuring Bill a few years ago for a Rupert fan/connector.

Pillars with multiple animals are a lovely way to give life back to a dead or diseased tree & sometimes I can leave little nooks and crannies so animals can still use the tree

You can see her if you drive down Marbury Rd in Cheshire. Remember to pull over for a photo though so there are no accidents like the

Ut's always an honour when another artist chooses one of my sculptures as a subject.
If you would like a print he'll be selling them in 65x25cm frames for £40.
Here it is, the finished sculpture of King Charles II hiding in an oak tree to escape the Roundheads during the Battle of Worcester.
For anyone wanting to see the sculpture, it's at
@OakGretton
where you can also grab some great food and a pint!

If the stormy weather has brought down any of your trees, could you give them new life as a sculpture?
That's how the Dragon of Bethesda came to be!
