Parents please check your kids' Halloween candy. Just found The Collected Works of Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel inside of a Twix Bar. Stay safe this Halloween.
Yesterday's assassination attempt on Donald Trump points to a profound sickness in American political life, whose threats don't discriminate by party or ideology.
Gerald Horne, 2022:
"I fully expect France to be peeled off from the North Atlantic bloc dominated by U.S. imperialism and cut a deal [with] the rising bloc led by Beijing and Moscow"
Jean-Luc Melenchon, founder of the left-wing France Rebellious party, which won the election, has called for a planned and organized withdrawal of the republic from NATO.
I don’t believe in god
as much as I believe
in an interrogation room.
I believe in someone
placing a loaded gun
on a metal table
between me and a door.
who gets to be god then?
would god be the bullet
or the table or the door.
This morning, Gerald Horne will be on
@thisishellradio
to discuss his new book, "Armed Struggle?: Panthers & Communists; Black Nationalists & Liberals in Southern California through the 60s and 70s" (
@IntPubNYC
).
Live at 10AM (Chicago time), podcast shortly after.
If I don't get accepted into a PhD program this cycle I may have to call it quits on my academic pursuits. Adjuncting is a joke. I can't keep teaching 38 credit hours a year. It's taking a serious toll. I want to continue researching & writing but I can't do this much longer
Here's what I'm teaching this semester. I'm especially excited to teach Morrison, Krasznahorkai and Trouillot for the first time. Actually, it'll be my first time teaching literature and poetry.
As Gerald Horne once told me: although the US left has an analysis of class struggle it will fail & remain incomplete w/o a thorough understanding & analysis of the history of class collaboration (& therefore whiteness & white supremacy)
Thus, the current Red-Brown confusion
Since Balfour is in the news check out Gerald Horne's masterful analysis on the history of European imperialism, the Balfour Delcaration, Palestinian labor, South Africa, cultural currents w/ regard to whiteness, Blackness, Arab-American identity & more in a global context🔥🔥🔥
BREAKING: Palestine Action spray and slash a historic painting of Lord Balfour in Trinity College, University of Cambridge.
Written in 1917, Balfour’s declaration began the ethnic cleansing of Palestine by promising the land away — which the British never had the right to do.
We gotta stop projecting politics onto folks just because they write about a particular subject. Most academics writing about radicals and revolutionaries are doing so as an object of inquiry NOT because they share their commitments. Folks’ politics can be gleaned from how +
Gerald Horne: lumping together the 1776 counterrevolution, the 1789 French Revolution & the 1791 Haitian Revolution as an "Age of Revolutions" is like saying the 1973 US coup in Chile & the 1974 Carnation Rebellion in Lisbon were somehow part of an "age of revoutions" in the1970s
Here is my article on philosophy after Covid-19 in which I address the inadequacies of vitalism/new materialism & object oriented ontology for thinking our current economic, ecological & epidemiological conjuncture.

I hope everyone is enjoying Alberto's discussion of LATE FASCISM, which is an invaluable reappraisal of the critical theory of fascism in our own time.
For those interested, Alberto & I are planning a PART 2 to discuss his other recent book, TERMS OF DISORDER!
STAY TUNED!
📣 De Facto Ep. 12 is now LIVE! 🚨
Alberto Toscano discusses LATE FASCISM: RACE, CAPITALISM & CRISIS (
@VersoBooks
), Black Radicalism, fascism & liberalism, & comments on disturbing parallels in far right culture & anti-woke, left-wing white nationalism.
Adjunct professors & contingent faculty make up something like 75% of the academic workforce, including full-timers on short-term contracts. Teaching 6 courses a semester for multiple institutions w/o benefits & making a fraction of a living wage is hardly a cake walk...
I'm thrilled to announce that I am compiling my interviews with Dr. Gerald Horne into an edited collection for publication, complete with a preface written by the great

Updates to come!
Question for academics: I was asked a really good, though difficult question at a conference, and was only able to provide a partial answer. Would it be acceptable to email this person and provide a more detailed answer?
