I remember Clint bringing the song into the rehearsal room. It's incredible that the song still gets such a good reception 30 years later. Happy birthday, Saturn 5.
30 years ago today Inspiral Carpets released their legendary single “Saturn 5”
The song has become a fitting tribute to late drummer Craig Gill with the lyric “All hail the men who will walk up in heaven today”.
Paul Moody’s NME review included.
I want to wish Inspiral Carpets and the fans all the best for their Spring 2023 tour , I won’t be appearing with them. I hope the band audience have a wonderful time
I didn’t know Andy Rouke that well, first I worshipped him from afar as a member of the Smiths (my generations Beatles) then later I met him as an acquaintance & friend and he was ever generous, humble and talented. I’m so sad to hear of his passing and had a little cry earlier x
She comes in the fall - epic. The military style drumming at the end was inspired by Kate Bush’s Cloudbursting. Makes you realise how much you miss Craig. What a great drummer. ❤️

My Dad Ronald Hingley was born 100 years ago today , he passed away in 2010. Thanks very much to
@InspiralGraham
for sending this to me a few weeks ago

Really sad to hear the news about Janice Long - a huge music fan, genuine supporter of new music, fantastic broadcaster and a lovely person. I have really fond memories of doing live sessions on her shows. A big loss to music.
These
#inspiralThursday
sessions have been great. It’s been really cathartic and nostalgic to have shared memories with band members and fans. I hope it’s provided some fun relief during odd times. Take care, everyone. xx
It's wonderful to see so much anticipation and excitement everywhere for Oasis to make their announcement. It just means so much for so so many people x

has made me feel quite sad tonight. Was a difficult time personally & professionally for me. I love the album, but it’s brought back some sad memories which, combined with Craig no longer being here, has made it a melancholic experience for me.
My deceased brother Peter , my very much alive brother Richard as a mega cute baby and my late Dad Ronald . I'm sorting photos out for Big brother Pete's birthday and it's making me cry tbh
Saturn V - I knew this song was a hit the first time we played through it in our rehearsal room. From the verse into the chorus, the dynamic lift felt like we were on our way to the stars! 💫

If you think playing my own music to sixty people in a lovely pub with good beer and company is a fall from grace then you must have one hell of a life. There's plenty below me , and am I proud , I love my job xxxx
Thanks for all the lovely birthday messages for yesterday , im having a post birthday beer on Tynemouth beach , thanks for the lovely presents Wife, daughters and in laws xxxx
Sunak a total disgrace the worst of a very very bad set of recent PMs destroying our country. Just makes me sad to see such useless entitled nonentities gutting our society , ransacking our family silver and demonising
the weak the sick and those displaced by arms sales
Bitches Brew - this was my favourite to sing live. It required a degree of precision. Nice build-up of tension in the verse, released in the chorus.

Big love to everyone opening outdoor hospitality spaces today. I’ve really missed all the pubs & venues that I normally play in. My gig diary is finally filling up again, and I can’t wait to get back on the road next month.
The same Conservative Party who had a collective heart attack over
@AngelaRayner
using the word 'Scum' to describe them now discusses their pointless broken migration policy using the F word. Nothing positive to say about their 13 years of hateful misrule
Sleep Well Tonight - hard to sing live. The verse is pitched really low for my vocal range.
@therealboon
sings the first line of the chorus while I’m still singing the last line of the verse. Always thought our voices worked nicely together.

Dragging me down - a song about the first gulf war, about the United States recent love affair with Saddam Hussain which ended with his invasion of Kuwait. ‘I would search this world for you...I use rocket ships and minesweepers.’

Beast Inside - what a great title track, and classic songwriting by
@therealboon
. Always reminds me of spaghetti westerns, Nick Cave and ‘House of the rising sun’. Stirring stuff.

I want to wish a very happy new year to everyone , whoever you are , wherever you are and whatever you hold true , here’s to a peaceful and happy 2020 xxx
Please Be Cruel - the first single by the band to splutter, reaching no.50 in the charts. We later intended to release a compilation album called ‘The Greatest Hits and Please Be Cruel’.

Dragging Me Down - I borrowed my mate Jem Kelly’s vintage Carhartt brown jacket for the video without telling him. He wore it to the Manchester show and punters kept asking him why he was wearing my jacket

Our office was 42-44 Sackville St, where Central Station were also based- they did Hapoy Monday’s and Northside record covers. The Stone Roses paint shot was done upstairs from us, and the paint dripped down.
#shiiineoncoolas
Saturn V - How much can one song give? It gifted us our last true hit (of my era), a trip to Texas where we met
@ZoeTheBall
, and ten thousand singalongs in venues, pubs and stadia. Can’t be bad 🪐🚀

I'm playing a big gig at the Albert Halls in MCR this Friday supporting
@BlackGrapeLive
, it will be great to be sharing the stage with Sean Ryder and Kermit x
@d1_stewart
he didn't that's a Right Wing trope , Edwina Curry made Jimmy Saville a manager at Broadmoor , under John Major's Conservative Government , that's genuinely troubling
Is there any bigger shit in the UK than Boris Johnson ? We are now getting to see how the Establishment covers up wrong doing by it’s own , we are now getting to see just how corrupt ‘Great’ ‘Britain is
Happy New Year everyone , and thanks to all the punters, promoters, musicians, family and friends who have helped and supported me and the The Karpets and Tom Hingley Band over the year , i and i wish every one of you a peaceful and happy 2018 xxxx Tom
@Pets_Kar
Sunak’s absence from parliament yesterday renders him redundant as a leader , the concept of him lecturing anyone on morals and expected codes of behaviour laughable, he’s as corrupt and empty as Boris Johnson. Please go and let’s get some proper governance here
Really sorry and sad to hear this. My favourite ever gig was Happy Mondays at the Free Trade Hall in 1989. Sending love to all Paul’s family & friends. x
The Ryder family and Happy Mondays band members are deeply saddened and shocked to say that Paul Ryder passed away this morning
A true pioneer and legend. He will be forever missed ❤️
We thank you for respecting the privacy of all concerned at this time
Long live his funk x
Uniform - We had this song for maybe 3 years before we recorded it. We could never find a way to nail it satisfactorily. Daniel Miller (
@MuteUK
) insisted we record it and thank god we did!
