It’s so sad to hear about Quincy Jones. When he signed us to his label, he made us feel so welcome - inviting us to dinner at his home every time we were in town. He made us big in America. He was so humble & sweet that you immediately fell in love with him.

What a shock… Paul Ryder was the archetypal solid, quiet, strong, dependable bass player. A lovely man - respectful & charming. When they got back together I remember seeing them play & he looked so happy. And they needed him back so much, he gave them soul & passion. RIP mate.

I remember well being blown away by Ennio Morricone’s music on so many films. We would then spend hours trying to get that guitar sound - on Elegia & Sunrise specifically - and of course, he was the inspiration for the Blue Monday bassline. Thank you Ennio & rest in peace.

SHE’S LOST CONTROL. One of our most iconic songs. Steve used a ring modulated snare sound here along with a spray can of furniture polish to make that drum riff. Another one of Ian’s favourite high bass riffs - I’m using the droning technique again. #TimsTwitterListeningParty.

Steve Harley was the man who with ‘Sebastian’ introduced me to proper music, on holiday in 1973 in Prestatyn… I was counting the hour down on Radio Luxembourg for the power play. Cockney Rebel were my favourites & Steve my favourite songwriter. You made me smile! God bless. RIP.

Made it to New Zealand! First stop had to be the Ian Curtis Memorial Wall here in Wellington. First painted in 1981 it was removed by the council but the guy kept putting it back up! So it became permanent…. Australia/NZ tour starts here this Thursday!.

Ian worked at the job centre. Lyrics were inspired by a young lady who had epilepsy that he was trying to find a job for. It really shocked him when she had a fit and died. When he found out he had epilepsy himself, this weighed on his mind heavily. #TimsTwitterListeningParty.

SHADOWPLAY. This started from us trying to emulate a Velvet Underground song called The Ocean. Barney wanted a riff that was like a wave - building up, then crashing. That idea worked perfectly here. These lyrics feel like something from a film to me. #TimsTwitterListeningParty.
