this weird martyrization of the living too is a form of dehumanization btw. (action towards) the liberation of the colonial subject & colonized land should not hinge upon a moral assessment of their individual subjectivity within a (colonial) framework of "civility"

As much as i adore the whole cannibalism as love thing, i think this shows how people sleep on it as a metaphor for abuse and control. The dehumanization of another to the point they are meat. Losing your body. Becoming part of someone else independently of your will. -

utena was no prince; she played the part of one— at a cost— but a major part of rgu was examining how the socially constructed & enforced gender roles presented through the lens of fairytale archetypes cannot be divorced from gender subjectification under the patriarchy

you people can't be normal about power, you either reduce her to a 'racist stinky brat' or sexy kawaii seductive anime girl when she's neither— she takes care of herself (denji & aki taught her to), & she wears cute outfits because she loves them, Not to entice sexual attention

. denji idealizes women (to a fault) because he longs for maternal affection & is repulsed by men as a trauma response. this ironically manifests as his embodiment of the masculine violence he's been hurt by (chainsaw man) being subject to control by his maternal figure

one thing i'd like skip and loafer anime-only watchers to keep in mind is that the story is kind to its characters & you should be too. they're teenagers, finding friendships & healing & dealing still with their own share of problems. no one is a villain & they are not malicious

csm 129 was so fun, i just read it & instantly felt better. there’s not much to chew on & discuss (other than the ‘save me chainsaw man’ makima/asa parallel, the third time asa has said an iconic makima line word-for-word), but it’s a transitional chapter so that’s ok (1/3)

language doesn’t exist in a static unevolving vacuum free of & unaffected by patriarchal gender structures. these connotations are all social constructions, re-inforced & re-produced through ingrained misogyny. maybe think for a second why sisterhood means Only that to you
i hate that "brother" isn't gender neutral calling someone my brother: we have an unbreakable bond. we are bound, not by blood necessarily, but by our ambitions and dreams calling someone my sister: James Charles has infected my blood and is attempting to worm his way out

utena was revolutionary because she was neither the princess (a role others keep trying to force her into) nor the prince (a constructed, misogynistic ideal); the revolutionary act she did to 'save' anthy was simply loving & caring for her, not princely notions of nobility.

i was watching ep1 reactions & so many people are calling mika 'manipulative bitch' & the like already. she's not a scheming rival she's a high school girl. this is a very grounded slice-of-life and, true to real life, no one is an antagonist. hopefully they realize that soon

i <3 this because we're at least brushing the thematic surface of sex in relation to intimacy (asynonymous, especially in CSM as we've seen before, but her perception of sex is definitely warped re: hedgehog dilemma & how it is socially & falsely conflated with companionship)

makima is The antagonist & csm will literally not be csm without her. not only is she narratively integral she embodies all of chainsaw man's themes in one way or another, you can't take her out of the plot nor the story

this is so silly because you really shouldn’t structure your story after an arithmetic sequence but if we follow the pattern ms. death will be on the cover of volume 16

parallel i noticed between this panel & ch114: asa bases the idea of perceived worth (on which she judges whether it is ‘okay’ for her to live at all) around helping people, saving people, essentially your value to/for Others— all the while putting herself above denji/csm+ (2/3)

(3) denji's plant is thriving & nayuta's is not! first of all i love the idea of denji teaching her to value life, i.e. what makima in her hunt for the humanity she believed she could access through pochita never really did.

asa leading the run this time with denji, rather than struggling to follow yuko.. i believe it's representative of not only her new surge of confidence but also her attitude on life— actively living it now despite not having a direction, rather than passively waiting for death

! rose-bridehood as defined by subordination relates back to The Woman as a policed & subordinated social subject But the patriarchal structures that enforce & maintain this positionality aren't natural. much like ohtori, they are constructed— the rose bride(s) *can* be liberated

“in the end, all girls are like the rose bride” is not a statement of fact from her, and a lot of weak readings of the series stem from thinking it is. you cannot remove this dialogue from the immediate context. it’s a warning, it’s anthy at her most cynical. to be girlish is to

@Chainsawctopus_ i think it’d be really cute if the ‘request’ denji has for asa is for her to tutor (or just talk to) nayuta because he thinks nayuta needs ‘someone smart in her life’ & asa’s little autistic infodump made him convinced she is

male & female duelists in utena all using the sword to destroy the flower is an apt metaphor btw for how women too have been patriarchally conditioned to turn on/ compete against other women thru position-maintenance labor for hetero dominance relations & reproduction of misogyny

it is Not artistic/aesthetic choice— when the post- &/or non-human body is marked as distinctly asian & female it constructs & reifies the dehumanization of asian women + feeds into a form of techno-orientalism wherein hypermodernity is reconstituted into the unknown & horrific

so excited for this scene; it's a great example of takamatsu 'wrapping darker themes in a common setting'. nao-chan is great trans rep because her character shows how queer joy is possible (in this instance, through her love for mitsumi) even in the face of constant alienation
