they weren’t even a little subtle about this role being meant for matthew macfadyen. it was tom wambsgans with a pink tie. the tantrums, the gay undertones, the high pitched yelling, ceo, “call me mother” come oooooooooon
RIP Tim Conway. He is better known for starring in The Carol Burnett Show, but he introduced himself to a whole new generation by voicing Barnacle Boy in Spongebob Squrepants. Ernest Borgnine, voice of Mermaid Man, passed away in 2012.
what a return for james cromwell! his speech was incredibly moving. ewan’s parents are gone, his siblings are gone. he is alone and no one understands his struggle. no one in that room knows what he went through to be standing where he is today. it’s sad.
i thought sarah snook’s impression of matthew macfadyen was good, but it got even better when i watched these interviews back to back. she even got the hands right!
i just feel like if wes anderson was such a lazy talentless hack he would’ve been replaced by now, but he hasn’t. bottle rocket came out in 96 and there’s still no new wes anderson.
for me the scene that will define succession is shiv and caroline in tuscany. it covers so much ground in such a short time. it explains why this family functions the way it does and it’s the reason season 3 ended the way it did.
christopher nolan’s thing with men with chiseled jaws and floppy blonde hair being about himself is like if tarantino’s thing with feet was about how he takes really good care of his toes
one of my favorite little filmmaking moments in succession was when shiv went to kendall’s office after her town hall humiliation. the way the light reflected on the door made it look like she was opening a door to a free fall into the river, emphasizing further how she felt.
there is so much lily gladstone has to be proud of. she is the beating heart of killers of the flower moon. it simply wouldn’t have been made without her. she is a winner in my heart. ❤️
i just want to give a big round of applause to the writers. it’s really easy to write an evil presidential candidate, but it’s hard to write an evil presidential that’s nothing like trump. they avoided all the cliches. his inaugural speech felt like nothing i’ve heard before.
“you cannot quote me a single line form aquaman. what does that mean?” i’ll tell you. spider-man: no way home opened my eyes to the fact that people see these movies for the secret celebrity cameos. it’s not about the writing, the effects or the quality at all.
director lorene scafaria said that they purposefully filmed in a room with reflective surfaces because they wanted to express the feeling of being pulled in two different direction and i did notice there were a lot of scenes showing two toms.
controversial opinion, but the insults weren't evenly distributed at all. he came for basically every one of her weaknesses. every time she shiv'd him he was taking notes and saving them for an argument. when it came time for her turn, she cowered. she's not a killer.
i really like how willa’s hair gets blonder every season. the longer she is with connor the more she compromises her values and therefore the more she fits the atn look. it reminds me of how all the fox news hosts look the same.
i thought the costume design in no hard feelings was very well done and realistic. you can tell she’s had those sundresses since high school. i believed this character would actually dress like this.
something that succession did really well was choosing words. it wasn’t what was said, it was how they said it. like “i got you” has a double meaning. it means “i’ve got your back” but also “i have you/i posses you/you’re mine.” i love those double entendre moments.
Quentin Tarantino is looking for an actor in his 30s to star in his next project, which will be about a movie critic who wrote for a porno magazine.
“I haven’t decided yet but it’s going to be somebody in the 35 year-old ball park. It’ll definitely be a new leading man for me.”
i love this scene so much because the lower he goes down the stairs the more she opens up to him. he knows that she can only be vulnerable if he is subordinate to her and he uses that to make his move. everything is a chess move. this is blocking done right.
@stellaboonshoft
this backfired big time. my legs have cellulite no matter what i do and i don’t really think about it, but seeing her point it out makes me self conscious. i think to myself ‘is this something i should hide?’
the thing that amazes me about beef is that steven yeun and ali wong spend a lot of scenes apart, but they always seem cosmically attached?? you don’t feel their distance for a second. it’s like a comedy act type of dynamic. i don’t know how the director achieved that.
@brofromanother
it’s gotta be lolita (1997). talk about completely missing the point of the book. they added a bunch of scenes to make lolita seem way sexier and like she deserved what she got and to this day it’s still going around on the internet damaging teen girls. fuck adrian lyne.
i just want to say that will ferrell was great in the role. it was the perfect middle point between mugatu and buddy. justice for will ferrell, but i know matthew macfadyen would’ve been great too.
@boarlord_
i don’t know what the stylist had in mind, but i do know lizzo draws inspiration from other black celebrities and they’ve worn similar things. i see it as homage. plus big billowy garments photograph great in editorials
succession clip kendall tells roman and shiv “I’ll be taking temporary charge as CEO”, roman disagrees “it could be me. dad made me COO.” kendall responds “if that wasn’t a sign that he was loco in the coco, I don’t know what is. I love you man, but you are not a serious person.”
i don’t think you have to be a great singer to sing for a living, but it’s so much better if you can sing. i think we can all all agree that we prefer when idols sound good. despite being amazing dangers, chungha and ten agree that singing is more important than dancing.
