I was a victim of s*xual abuse when I was a child. It started at age 6, it stopped when I was a late teenager. I don’t talk about it, it has practically ruined me as a person and I’ve never fully healed. I likely never will. I finally disclosed to one of my doctors last year.

To be perfectly clear, I became hypersexual when the abuse stopped as I felt that my body didn’t belong to me. I believed my body was meant for everyone except me, that it wasn’t mine. After I had my son, I experienced the opposite effect. I don’t recall the last time I had sex.

I keep a written, detailed account of the abuse in a private journal. My husband is the only person who has ever read it, and my doctor encouraged me to let him read it as it may better help him understand why I act a certain way when it comes to my body.

It’s incredibly hard to even stay alive having experienced these things. I don’t wish it on anyone. Parts of myself have been completely demolished by these experiences, parts of my identity were stolen away from me. It’s hard to explain..

In addition to this, I later suffered a violent SA when I was 18 years old. It was someone I knew, there was a drug involved, and it’s the only other thing I have never told anyone about except my doctor and more recently my husband. That detailed account is also in my journal.

Something that helped me once was someone telling me that our body replaces its skin cells every 7 years so it’s like we have a whole new skin than we did when we were young. Idk how true it is, but I hope it’s true bc I have clung to that information for peace.

I will never name the people involved (outside of my journal) as it poses a huge danger to myself and my family. Unfortunately that’s the way it needs to be. I believe in Karma, I believe the universe will somehow (if it hasn’t already) make sure they get what they deserve.

Additionally, my husband has been nothing but supportive and understanding about what happened to me. More men could stand to be that way. Carry on.

I am so sorry that so many of you know this pain… While it is somewhat of a comfort in knowing I am not alone, it is so heartbreaking to know that so many others have been through this experience. It truly hurts. My heart hurts for all of you. I’m so sorry.
