It feels wrong that people can play Gaea's Cradle and tutors, but those who invested in Commander Masters just last year for Jeweled Lotus as the chase rare can't play with their card. I can't help but feel this is the wrong move for the community. This is why we have rule zero.

No, that is not what I am suggesting. I am suggesting more of what MTG already does. "Hey, we notice The One Ring is very powerful, and it's being closely watched." That's been done by MTG already. Players know now that if they buy The One Ring, it has the potential to be banned.

The top card actually did change. The player grabbed Grief from the deck, moved it back sticking out halfway to front, then moves it again to the very top of the deck. Then fails to randomize the top card. There is no reasonable reason to take this action other than the obvious.

If WOTC reprints a powerful Commander card and uses it to market a set, there is a reasonable expectation from players that they are buying a functional card they can play and not cracking packs for artwork to frame.

Nobody should be doing personal attacks. That being said, the problem is the new RC should have focused on the process for how it makes and communicates ban decisions in the current era, before deciding on what needed to be banned. These decisions can have a tremendous impact.

I'm seeing a lot of people misconstrue investing in MTG meaning "mtg finance", vs people "investing in their decks". There are valid reasons for people wanting to own multiple copies of cards so they don't have to swap in and out sleeves between decks whenever they play a game.

There was still a material advantage gained here. The player knows that there is a Grief where the deck was cut. He can now play based on that knowledge (IE play with the knowledge the top card is not Grief).

That's the point. There has been no discussion of banning Cradle. It could just be banned in the next update. Why buy any of the expensive Commander cards over a proxy if they can be banned out of nowhere.

I, for one, actually enjoy quicker Commander games. My biggest complaint 10 years ago was that they went too long.

This is clearer communication and builds buy-in and makes information more equitable to let parties input and make decisions. It's common practice for governing bodies to govern this way. Governing bodies that do this tend to have longer lifespans as a result.

No matter what they do, there's an uphill battle to get people playing paper Standard. It used to be the only popular formats were Standard and Modern. Now you can choose between Commander, Pioneer, Modern, and Standard at the LGS level.

The RC's view is that they "own Commander". It is their format to do with as they please? Most Commander players have never heard of the RC. They just roll up to a shop and sling spells with friends. Who actually owns Commander? The RC, WoTC, the players?

No. Grief/Fury were selling just fine before they were banned despite being warned and watched officially by WOTC. The One Ring is on notice and selling for record prices, though played in more formats.
