@ArmyStrang
Funny that the most destructive hamas rocket ever just happens to hit a hospital Israel warned to evacuate in the midst of a masdive Israeli bombing campaign.
@JosephPolitano
Economists, especially young ones, are fairly liberal but economic theory and the economics that is taught is still very right leaning.
@profmusgrave
I have talked to several homeowners who have this weird idea that somehow home equity isn't wealth, because if they sell they still have to live somewhere. Its as if they don't consider renting to be an option.
@Afinetheorem
Yea, because academic macro is in a bad state. All most economists could contribute to the discussion was "lol greedflation". You can't ask that the experts be taken seriously if the experts can barely back up their point of view.
@nytopinion
@KarenPetrou
Karen Petrou's argument is actually just wrong. She argued that low rates prevent people from saving thus increasing inequality. But the vast majority of financial assets are held by the very wealthy. Regular people hold a much higher percentage of their wealth in mortgages.
@LaLiberalVetera
@Meadbymead
The entitlement by employers these days is off the charts. Don't complain about staffing issues if you haven't tried raising wages.
@mindfulshrink17
@mattyglesias
The point is COVID isn't ending. No-one has a realistic plan to make it go away. So either we have lockdowns for ever or we simply accept it and move on with our lives. The later is clearly the superior option.
@Pat071023
@RaphMim
Yea, when you continually steal land it makes people interpret your other actions in a bad light. Stop the settlements and see what happens! But liberal Zionists (aka likud's PR wing) would rather complain.
@TheOmniZaddy
You don't understand. The wolves mixed their labour with the land in each area, making it theirs. All the other wolves know to not go on land that other wolves have mixed their labour with, as that would be against the non aggression principle.
@AvivaKlompas
The UN based this solely on Israeli testimony because Israel did not let them investigate themselves, and also hand picked the person doing the investigation. Yet still many of the claims made were debunked.
@thejb_stan
@JamieLittleTV
Bingo. Small businesses owners have become so spoiled by an abundance of cheap labour they have forgotten basic things like the idea that if you are nice to your workers they might stick around longer.
@socio_steve
@Econ_Marshall
@Claudia_Sahm
Yea economists are complaining now because they systematically excluded anyone who would criticize them from having any platform for years. Now they are forced to defend their ideas having never done so in an open forum.
@_fl01
@OmarBaddar
@andreas_krieg
No. Being against a state that had the express intention of expanding and kicking out people of your nationality being created in your country is not waging am aggressive war. Even if it was that doesn't give Israel the right to take land by force and kick out those live there
@arindube
Meanwhile I just caught a prof at the university of Chicago making econ 101 level errors. The only thing more messed up than a strict status hierarchy is when the hierarchy has nothing to do with merit.
@chase__burke
@The_Law_Boy
The funny thing is that they were saying the exact same thing when they had 59 senators, when they could easily have removed the filibuster at that point. No wonder they have no credibility left.
@DaveJamesKent
Okay so what are you actually suggesting? Do you have any reasonable group of policies that can actually eliminated COVID? I don't think anyone believes that lockdowns for ever are worth it at this point, and that is the only thing with any chance of success.
@SaiSunkam
@JosephPolitano
There are many possibilities for simplifying assumptions. Practically every time econ models make one it is one that gives more pro market results. If simplifying assumptions were not picked for ideological reasons you would not except that to be true.
@Remroum
@iwasid
Its allowed as long as you give them 5 minutes to get out of the building and then say "we had information there were enemy forces in the area" after.
@ChrisD2003
@Copperdomebodhi
@nikicaga
Because even though economic status might have been behind the resentment they killed people regardless of economic status. This is not hard.
@noahmacbeth
@NathanTankus
The piece is just incoherent. She argued that higher interest rates would help the poor by giving them a higher rate of return on their assets. But the poor don't have assets that pay the interest rate typically, in fact they usually have debt.
@zunguzungu
Me too! Initially the situation seems pretty simple: Palestinians are upset because they were kicked out of their homes. People say it is more complicated but after reading all the rationalizations you realize it really isn't.
@jdcmedlock
In reality they dont sweat this at all, because in effect they just want feudalism. All the stuff about efficiency of markets is just rationalization.
@davidfrum
Funny how Israel kills a ton of civilians every year but that doesn't count as a war. Peace is when only Palestinians are being killed I guess.
@bendreyfuss
The only way to get rid of Hamas is to deradicalize people. You do that by increasing the reward for being moderate vs radical. Treating the Palestinians in general much better while doing extremely targetted strikes at Hamas members will do that.
@cafreiman
Capitalist workplaces can't do those things because we have a government, obviously. Are you seeing how many bad libertarian arguments you can make in a week?
@afalkhatib
We know how Israel treats Palestinians when they do not fight bank, they keep them in an apartheid state and continually steal their land. Amazing that you can make this argument as if the west bank does not exist.
@ApostateProphet
@loooooosenupmy
Even if this is a riot caused by starving people it is still Israels fault for cutting off food. But sure quibble over irrelevant details.
@dandolfa
@EmanuelDerman
Probably the best example is how consumer preferences are introduced in graduate textbooks. Axioms of preferences are stated and then the analysis proceeds in the same way mathematical analysis of a vector space does in linear algebra.
@ThoreauAway2020
@ArmandDoma
What is the clearance rate for murder though. From what I remember in most developed countries it is well over 80 percent, meaning such errors are small.
@JosephPolitano
The fact that healthcare premiums have been increasing rapidly does not mean the average worker is better off. Also, the fact that CPI overstates inflation is not something everyone agrees with, and is more your opinion.
@MDrelichman
Because spending 90 percent of the course focussing on the 1 percent of the economy where competition works best is a totally non ideological choice.
@hahussain
I love how to Israelis stealing land and imprisoning/killing random civilians are just normal hobbies. To everyone else those are acts of war.
@greenstanion
@RitchieTorres
A country that does not value human life and constantly engages in aggressive land theft does not share the most important western values.
