forfeited the Arizona Coyotes' 2nd Rd pick in 2020 and 1st Rd pick in 2021 for violating the league's testing policy. AZ allegedly evaluated prospects through physical testing during a period they were not allowed, circumventing the competitive process.
I'm an Arizona boy, born and raised.
I bleed Coyote red and I wouldn't be able to look at myself in the mirror if I supported the team in the city that took the Coyotes.
I wish the players luck, but I'm not supporting the team.
BREAKING 🚨 🚨 🚨 🚨
Toronto Maple Leafs forward, Auston Matthews will NOT sign an extension in Toronto and, in fact, has requested a trade to Arizona.
He stated, "I'm tired of this dumpster fire organization. I want to go to Arizona, where they know how to win."
#Yotes
I'll never understand people that continue to support a team after a relocation.
To me, it's like paying your ex's rent.
You don't have ties anymore, have some respect for yourself and move on.
“If you would have told me in February we’d be here at the Draft, I wouldn’t have believed you.” - Utah owner Ryan Smith addresses the media ahead of the 2024 NHL Draft.
If you'd abandon your dog because they're old, there's a special place in hell for you to rot.
If they give you their best years, you owe it to them to be there at the end.
Cher's getting up there, and her place is at the foot of my bed until the end.
PERIOD.
Disgusting.
In the event the Arizona Coyotes relocate, my brother in law(s), my wife and I are engaging in internal discussions about becoming St. Louis Blues fans.
Words cannot describe how much I hate that decision, and I ain't plugging back in my antenna.
Bettman said he didn't know if that made it better or worse, but it's worse to me.
I'd rather watch Vegas than see another market with my team.
Don't take my dog and send me pictures.
If the Roadrunners move to Tempe, we have to pack the house.
Worst thing we could do is give ammo to the "hockey doesn't work in Arizona" crowd just because we hate the owner.
I don't support him, I support Arizona hockey.
(Support ASU Hockey as well.)
Before the final game at Mullett, Doaner told me that they'll be back.
Doaner is also loved in the community, more than ready for an NHL GM job, and maybepossiblykeepsgettingthrownaroundinrumors.
#BREAKING
: The Utah HC logo has been discovered and is currently being used, as it’s been added to the NHL assets API.
We might be looking at the color scheme/ logo Utah will use next season.
IF this is the last
#Yotes
season in AZ, y'all better let Josh Doan play in the NHL.
He would be the first Arizona born player to play for ASU, Roadrunners, and the Coyotes.
"The decision to play all 36 home games at Tucson Arena came after the last week’s decision by the Arizona State Land Department to cancel their June 27 land auction."
I've never seen an organization admit so blatantly to throwing a tantrum in my life.
1. There is no hockey rink in Glendale. Desert Diamond Arena is not hockey compatible.
2. Meruelo doesn't own Westgate. Wanting his own entertainment district gives him more money. Said money will keep the team stable
3. NE Phoenix is a better location.
Do you now understand?
in Glendale, Arizona, there is a hockey rink just a mere 500 feet away from a football stadium, filled with parking, bars, a hospital, a casino, and major roads to get there
"we need to build a new 1.5 billion dollar stadium 20 miles away" - Alex Meruelo
do you now understand?
12/31/03 – The Phoenix Coyotes recorded their first victory at Glendale Arena, a 4-0 shutout over the LA Kings. The victory also began a modern

record of five consecutive shutouts for Coyotes goalie

fans, everyone "in the know" is saying the exact same thing.
Alex Meruelo walking away is the best case scenario here, and NHL hockey will be back.
BREAKING 🚨🚨
Per
@CraigSMorgan
a government source said that the Coyotes arena was discussed today and the meeting went well.
This could be wrapped up in 3 months.
This is NOT final, but it's great news.
Love how many Coyotes fans are cheering for Florida right now.
Non-traditional and/or small market fans should be on the same side more than not.
(Even though I know we all just hate Toronto lol)
I'll offer clarification.
I do not think supporting individual players is an issue, I'm still a Conor Garland fan, for example.
I'm talking about supporting the team in Salt Lake.
I don't blame Jets fans for not being Coyotes fans.
I'm an Arizona fan, not a Salt Lake fan.
I'll never understand people that continue to support a team after a relocation.
To me, it's like paying your ex's rent.
You don't have ties anymore, have some respect for yourself and move on.
Alex Meruelo needs to either say this report is false and he's not selling, or just sell the god damn team and end hockey here.
We're all too tired for this soap opera.
Per Source: The Meruelos may not be as committed to youth hockey as publicly stated.
I'm told that they do not want to support dev programs unless they are already sponsored.
"...even if a program like ___ makes money, he (JR) doesn't care because it's not sponsored"
4/8/07 I met Doaner after the game and he signed my jersey.
My dad worked at Glendale arena for about a decade, he got me into hockey
One of my first times skating was there
I spend so much time in that arena. I needed a school project printed? Let's go to the arena.
(1/5)
Mild frustration with some
#Yotes
fans today.
Meruelo was never getting this done and literally walked away. Why is anyone mad about the timeline when whatever timeline we are now on can start immediately as opposed to in 3-5 years when his rights would've expired?
Arizona sports is going to suck without the Coyotes.
I have no idea how to make my next Rattlers video, cheer for the Suns vs MIN or watch D-Backs right now.
I'm left fighting the question, "what's the point? There's no hockey in October."
Alright
#Yotes
fans, Tempe dream is dead, and it's a new day.
Those phones better be overheating today checking in on backup options.
- Reserve land
- another East Valley city
- Call Ishbia
- hail mary
Get it done or sell the team.
A positive development: Many developers I know were wary of bidding against Meruelo at the state land auction. They didn’t want to be the villain who chased the
@ArizonaCoyotes
out of town.
Now? They’re taking aim.
Canada's only motivation to watch hockey was to cheer for Arizona to relocate.
Now that it's happened, nobody will watch anymore.
It's been a pleasure, gentleman. 🫡
Arizona sports have got to be the market that goes through the most pain with almost zero reward.
Don't even bring up the Rattlers or Mercury, because 90% of you don't watch them.
Honestly, I wish he signed the 12 year lease in Glendale and used that time to explore the North Phoenix site. Construction timeline wouldn't matter if they had Glendale.
Seeing everyone go their separate ways.
Hearing, "I don't know if I'll still care about hockey," or seeing Craig write that he likely won't cover the new team, it kinda makes it feel like we lost way more than a hockey team.
Embarrassing at this point to see "professionals" complaining about Mullett Arena 2 years in.
Yes Iain, the student section is bleacher seating. They're temporarily playing in a college arena.
You feel sorry for Arizona hockey fans? I doubt it because you're adding to the shite
Seeing Mullett Arena for the first time reinforces what a disgrace this is for the NHL. That’s bleacher seating. There are real hockey fans here in the desert, and I feel sorry for them. And Tempe seems like a cool place. Beautiful campus. But honestly, enough is enough. Uncle.
I'll say "allegedly" for legal reasons.
I've been told that the Coyotes have either "misplaced" or failed to destroy sensitive documents regarding former employees throughout this ownership's tenure.
I've seen some of it, it's absolutely pathetic.
Words cannot describe how much this means for Arizona hockey.
Congrats
@JTDoaner19
, here's to the passing of the torch and the dawn of a new era of
#Yotes
hockey.
SHOTS FIRED. Scottsdale Mayor Ortega
strongly opposes
#Coyotes
proposed new arena location.
@12SportsAZ
“The proposed Phoenix version, bordering Scottsdale, was presented without mention of market demand for a new entertainment venue disguised as a hockey arena, or congested
Another contradiction between what was said and what is being done.
(Alex said everyone's jobs would be safe until the auction)
Coyotes employees all deserved better than the hand they've been dealt by the Meruelos.
Clayton Keller is 2nd player in
#Yotes
history to record 80 points in a season.
There's still enough time for him to be the team's first ever 90-point scorer.
Me (who was at the Tempe council meeting where they said other cities were interested)

There are potentially up to 3 local groups (including Mat Ishbia and his brother) that could buy the
#Yotes
and keep them in Arizona should Alex Meruelo not secure a new arena.
Watch the sale happen on April 18th and ASU fight it because they want the Coyotes money for the lease and that causes the league to halt everything until after the auction.
Nothing would surprise me at this point lmao.
Glendale ended the lease after the Coyotes didn't want to sign a 15-20 year lease
Phoenix's mayor wants them back
Tempe's City Council voted unanimously for their arena and advocated for it.
Research isn't hard.
If for no reason other than this logo alone, the franchise needs to be revived properly.
And Shane Doan should be involved.
Just gotta gather up a couple billion dollars, have the people of Arizona approve a new stadium build & get Gary Bettman to approve it.
Easy right?
The Arizona Coyotes are currently not for sale and Ishbia's statement was that he was open to the conversation should the team be up for sale.
Of course he's not actively pursuing the team. Reading the statement PHNX got in May would've told you that much.
Non-update.
UPDATE: Told
@Suns
owner Mat Ishbia is not pursuing the
#Yotes
. Unless there is another mystery local businessperson interested in buying the team and privately funding it all, that crosses off one of the three options.
Losing Bill Armstrong night be worse than losing Cooley/Guenther/Doan because he's the architect and such a damn good leader.
Coyotes 2.0 has MASSIVE shoes to fill.
If I'm understanding this correctly, Alex Meruelo can build here with no vote, as long as there are NO tax breaks or anything in the way of public funding.
Get it done, Alex.
I'm eating an uncrustable and someone asks me if I'm from Arizona.
(I'm wearing an ASU hockey jersey)
He's from Utah and said they're excited to get a team, but sorry we had to lose ours. Added that he hopes we come back and was glad we kept our team name and records.
Am sad.
Based on multiple conversations I've had, people who voted no on the TED regret their decision and feel lied to.
All I can say is, enjoy your higher taxes in a few years.
The Tucson Roadrunners are averaging more fans per game than Calgary, Manitoba, Utica & San Jose.
Only about 1,100 shy of Toronto.
They're also about 300 shy of averaging their highest attendance since moving to Tucson in 2016.
Put a good product on the ice and build within.
Doesn't matter if I never get another chance to cover a game, nobody can take this away from me.
I have officially covered my first hockey game as credentialed media.
Massive W for a nobody YouTuber lol
