Last night’s OT loss against the Ducks was one Utah didn’t deserve to win. Now the team will have to try to fix their mistakes shown last night without three of their defensemen. Check out my takeaways from Wednesday’s game in my latest.

Made it to beautiful Salt Lake City. Very happy to be up here a couple of days every month this hockey season.
Utah residents, please be so kind to drop any food recommendations :)

Here are some fan updates on the last Coyotes game.
- Fans are organizing a whiteout. It’s the Coyotes’ playoff tradition where everyone wears white.
- With the high prices as of today (see photos) for tickets, fans are organizing a watch party outside.

Elliotte Friedman reports on the 32 Thoughts Podcast that the Coyotes might be made an inactive team by the NHL and Ryan Smith might buy the contracts of the players and the employees (he wishes to bring to Utah).

Good quote from former Coyote Matt Dumba here.
“If the rink was figured out and everything else, it would be one of the best places in the NHL to play. If you could figure that out, you’d be bagging guys in free agency. It would be pretty easy.”

@lukefoxjukebox
has the story.
Craig Morgan just said numerous former Coyotes reached out to him about youth hockey and its future in Arizona.
It begs the question, what happens to Ice Den Chandler and Scottsdale and the Coyotes Community Ice Center? What happens to the Kachinas?
#Yotes
Shane Doan’s number retirement banner is officially on display at the Ice Den in Scottsdale. It will move inside the Doan rink after today. A piece of Arizona Coyotes’ history will remain in Arizona forever.
Craig Morgan just said on the PHNX show that former defenseman Troy Stecher just greeted the whole Coyotes team when they arrived at their hotel in Edmonton today. That’s so awesome to see.

Craig Morgan and Petey really emphasizing on the mistake Alex Meruelo could make by sending Bill Armstrong, Clayton Keller, Logan Cooley, etc to Salt Lake City. I couldn’t agree more.

Bettman says his biggest disappointment in the 27-year lifespan of the Coyotes was the failure in Tempe. Also brings up the fact the landfill is still there.

Cool and respectful move by Fountain Hills here. They too were instrumental in trying to keep the Coyotes here back in 1999 where they helped support the proposed Los Arcos arena. Unfortunately, that plan was never fulfilled.

As we approach the Arizona Coyotes' anticipated last home game in Arizona on April 17, before their relocation to Salt Lake City, the Town of Fountain Hills will illuminate the fountain for the 7 p.m., 8 p.m., and 9 p.m. runs in Coyote colors, symbolizing our shared support and

Breaking: Meruelo’s five year exclusivity window is officially void. Any sort of interested group can now try to bring NHL hockey back to Arizona.
#Yotes
Now that Alex Meruelo has terminated his right to reactivate the Arizona Coyotes franchise, the NHL confirms to me that his exclusive 5-year window to bring the team back is now void. NHL will be open to any new prospective owner interested in the AZ market.
Someone else that was at the Utah event yesterday was longtime Coyotes PXP announcer Matt McConnell. Nothing confirmed but it looks like he could be the voice of NHL Utah.
Per Emily Kaplan: Alex Meruelo will retain the Roadrunners and the business staff. They’ll try to keep the youth hockey scene alive and will be trying to win the auction on June 27 to bring back the Coyotes.

It’s a night and day difference between former Coyotes owner Alex Meruelo and Utah owner Ryan Smith. One in just a month’s time has shown how to properly run a franchise while another showed the opposite. Read my latest for more.

Final from Marek and Friedman today: Friedman reports the team feels betrayed and they think the way it all came down wasn’t the best.
Also adds that Andre Tourigny has made his thoughts vocal internally.

Finally got around to going to the Phoenix Zoo yesterday and was greeted by this at the coyote exhibit. Hoping Meruelo doesn’t stop supporting the actual coyote as well.

Per Craig Morgan, an update on the year and a half notice for reactivation of the franchise. The arena needs to be at least 50% completed for the notice to be sent to the league.

PHNX now flaming the Coyotes’ tweet that they released today about staying committed to this bid. Adds that it’s glaring that Meruelo hasn’t told the staff anything.
Biggest failure in the Meruelo tenure? Communication. 100%.

NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly has confirmed Alex Meruelo has agreed to and signed all of the necessary agreements and paperwork to relinquish his rights to the Coyotes.

Craig Morgan on PHNX had a source reach out saying that the Coyotes and their 100 acre land discussion went well.
“The 100 acres that they're looking at, it's right at the corner of the 101 and Scottsdale Road. That's the parcel that they've narrowed it down to.”

Ryan Smith on the Pat MacAfee show today. Says his next three steps are to name the team, relocate 80 people from Arizona, and build a practice facility.
Smith mentioned that the team name will be voted on by fans. He also praised the young talent and pile of draft picks.
@maxellis26
My guess is that they would be transferred over. The only thing I believe the NHL would keep is the rights to the branding (logos, names, jerseys, etc) and make them inactive. Again no one knows if this is going to happen but it is a possibility.
Sounds like Bettman is not interested in relocation. He emphasized tremendously that Salt Lake City, Houston, Atlanta, Cincinnati, and Kansas City all expressed interest in EXPANSION, not relocation.

More horrible news in the Arizona hockey community as it’s announced that Don Mullett passed away a couple days ago. Don was instrumental in funding the ASU men’s ACHA team until they got promoted to the NCAA. He then donated continuously to ASU athletics.
The Coyotes showed a promo of their new arena in Northeast Phoenix during the first media timeout.
I can confirm there were no floods in the renderings. I can also confirm it wasn't in Salt Lake City.
#Yotes
On top of everything I said with the repost of the Seravalli tweet, the project isn’t even in Scottsdale. It’s also very hypocritical from the city that has allowed two Spring Training facilities, the Coyotes’ practice facility, and a casino to be built on its land.

Olympian and Arizona born Lyndsey Fry has partnered with community leaders and NHL alumni to launch a foundation to preserve amateur hockey in Arizona. So great to see.
While it’s not Seravalli’s words being said in the article rather it’s the mayor of Scottsdale who has done 0 research on the topic, it is Seravalli’s fault for reposting the article that has false information in it which is something you learn not to do in journalism school.
Yesterday brought big news for the Arizona Coyotes. The team announced their commitment to purchase land in North Phoenix with the threat of relocation being said out loud for the first time. June 27 is now a vital day. My latest for THW.

Per multiple sources, the Coyotes have been informed that relocation to Salt Lake City is real.
Now hearing it could actually be announced on April 17; the date of the Coyotes’ final game at home vs. Edmonton.

Bill Armstrong says the recent extensions of his staff are in hopes to reward them and provide them stability while arena issues keep looking above the franchise.
