I cannot stress this enough (again): DO NOT exercise when you’re sick. It doesn’t matter if it’s a cold, COVID, the flu, or something else. It doesn’t matter if you’re an Olympic athlete or a “regular” person; it’s dangerous.
Begging all the people who keep saying, “It’s not C0VID, other viruses exist!!” to look at the data. Wastewater is showing flu, rhinovirus, RSV, etc. are low, while C0VID is surging. Yes, other viruses exist, but right now, it’s most likely C0VID.
LMAO SOMEONE SAID I’M SPREADING MISINFORMATION BY SAYING C0VID IS A VASCULAR DISEASE & 10–20% OF PEOPLE INFECTED GET LONG-COVID. Tell that to the hundreds of thousands of papers confirming this worldwide & the real world data backing the papers.
I'm so tired of minimizers like Isaac Bogoch basically claiming we can't do anything "cause COVID is here to stay". I understand mandates would be difficult at this point, but how about we actually educate the public about the dangers of COVID? Provide n95s? Provide tests?
Not sure why so many ppl keep citing the vaccine for the reason they don't mask/for their false claims that "things are way better now"?? Cause vaccine uptake is abysmal & like the flu shot, it's an annual (though ideally biannual) vaccine... So basically no one's vaccinated now?
This is your reminder that cloth masks aren't very effective against an airborne virus. Pick kN95s, N95s, and other respirators instead! And if you really want cute masks, there are lots of (real) kN95s with fun colours and patterns.
I've seen two tiktoks now of people selling cloth masks again and like...something about profiting off people starting to pay attention again with something that is not going to keep them safe doesn't sit right with me :/
Also, hearing Isaac Bogoch claim he doesn't need to mask at all times cause he "knows the risks"... DO YOU?! Cause 10–20% of people are getting Long-COVID & that risk is cumulative. Those odds are incredibly high. Anyone can get Long-COVID, at any time, from even mild infections.
@ToddShaffer
Being forced to work when sick because it's necessary for survival is completely different than working out when sick. I recognize that physical labour is essentially working out, but I'm specifically referencing things like weightlifting, running, etc.
@covidsafenetwrk
Learning that it takes an average of 17 years for health practitioners to change their care based on new info/studies has helped me understand these situations so much better. Obviously that's horrible, as it puts patients in danger, but it (unfortunately) explains this sort of
@Rhymxr
It takes an average of 17 years for info from research settings to reach doctors, so many doctors are behind on this sort of info. We're finding out more and more how important rest is during the recovery period & how NOT resting can increase risk of post-viral conditions.
@nohomelikeplace
My dad & I keep talking about this because it's so wild that full-grown adults are walking around coughing like little kids. I especially love the "It's not C0VID" line after they cough... Like I don't care why you're coughing?! Cover your mouth!! Or even better, mask up.
@Imani_Barbarin
Okay, but do you think it could have been the 2 week lockdowns from 2020??? Maybe that's why. I really don't think it could be any other reason... definitely couldn't be caused by a dangerous airborne vascular disease that's been circulating unchecked for 3+ years now... /s
@AmieVarley
@fordnation
@SylviaJonesMPP
Fellow Ontarian, but my dad works (in Canada) for a huge U.S. company. Most of his co-workers work & live in the U.S. A couple years ago, 1 co-worker told him he was glad they had good insurance through work because he “only had to pay $8000” out of pocket for day surgery.🙃
@LizThatGirlCA
I (like many chronically ill ppl) have cancelled appointments due to staff not masking. It's hard to safely access healthcare during this ongoing pandemic with an *airborne* virus when HCWs are ignoring how COVID transmits. + "fully healthy" people are getting Long-COVID too.
@Imani_Barbarin
"No rational human sets themselves on fire". Well, I'd like to think no rational human commits genocide, funds genocide, supplies weapons to oppressors during a genocide, or supports genocide in any way, yet here we are. Nailed it as always, Imani.
@Imani_Barbarin
Since everyone is sharing about allergies, if celery is "spicy" to you/makes your lips tingle/makes your mouth numb, you may have a pollen allergy!
@sorbetta
It's actually even worse! Javon expanded in the comments because he realized there's also a white pigment in it. So it's actually GREY foundation. How many people have grey skin?????
@GangstHannah
Literally everyone I know is stressed to a level I've never seen them stressed to before?? Including the non-COVID-conscious people I know. Everyone seems to be stressed & burnt out, even if they're ignoring a lot of the issues happening. Not sure if Time is correct here.
@mavisclare
Exactly!! I'm pretty sure people would be a lot more concerned about stopping COVID if they fully understood how dangerous it is. But all this minimization has made people think it's a minor inconvenience.
@QueeringPsych
My mom was a social worker before becoming a teacher. In the 80s, she worked with intellectually disabled adults. They were telling her they hated when people called them the r-word back then. The fact that people are using it again is DISGUSTING.
@laymagdalene333
Also, I don't know much about Covixyl, so not sure if this applies, but some of the nasal sprays people have been using against COVID aren't good for people who get migraines and/or bad headaches. That's why I've stayed away from nasal sprays (also cost) & stuck with N95s.
@theBrianaMills
My mom was a social worker in the early 80s before becoming a teacher & worked with intellectually disabled adults. They (the disabled people) were saying that the R word was offensive & hated when people used it then. I can’t believe people are back to using it. So awful.
@mynamesnotgordy
@Sflecce
My brother had a class with Sam at university in 2016. No joke, it was something like "How Politics Work in Canada"... my brother is pretty sure Sam didn't finish the class.
@GangstHannah
Right?! It's just excuse after excuse. It's exhausting.
"We've tried everything from doing nothing to ignoring it, but nothing seems to work!"
@alexandrite113
Seriously. I'm in Ontario, Canada, & people were supposed to stay in their regions, but all the people from the cities kept coming to my region to go to the beaches, visit attractions, etc... Like yeah, most stores were closed/curbside only, but how was this even a "lockdown"?
@salamasinamusic
THIS THIS THIS!!! Like yes, I recognize other viruses & health issues exist, but if you're sick right now, or out of nowhere developed a health issue (that studies show COVID can trigger), maaaaaybe consider the possibility that it could be COVID/COVID-related???
@leslieleeiii
AAAAAH THIS IS SO FRUSTRATING. Soooo many people say this, but we have data that shows it's likely the majority of the population has had it in both Canada & the U.S. As far as I know, I haven't had it, BUT, I work from home, always mask, & barely leave the house. I know that I'm
@afrodykee
This is what happens when you layer complementary colours! They "vibrate", making it difficult to read. I'm a designer & have had clients try to push me to use colours like this & I always have to explain that it's not accessible at all.
@clhubes
This much illness isn't normal though. Yes, kids absolutely get sick more frequently, but not THIS much. We're still in a pandemic, with an airborne virus that's able to damage immune systems, which makes people more susceptible to other illnesses.
@syderature
Ugh this sort of thing bugs me out so much. So many YouTubers sound sick/fully admit to being sick all of the time now, but then never mask when out.
@greensnail_
@RichardCityNews
It's both. The problem is private, for-profit clinics require more funding, which if OHIP-covered, drains the healthcare budget faster. Also pulls resources from the public system. & of course, it's the Ford gov's way of profiting off of sick people/making their friends richer.
@breakfasttv
To anyone that thinks private healthcare is the solution, look at the private LTC homes in Ontario in 2020. Death rates were significantly higher than in non-profit & municipal LTC homes, due to lower staffing levels, less/poor PPE, & lax protocols.
@LizzieKrontiris
YES! Bare minimum, all healthcare settings (including LTC) should have masking in place. But they should also be making sure the air is being cleaned.
@wrath_776
Not European, but I frequently see this too. Also often see Swedish ppl trying to argue their lack of protections during the early days was good, yet they never acknowledge that treatment was being withheld from many elderly people because "they're old & will die anyways". 🙄
@beisan
Watching her go from saying she was an ally to oppressed people to basically being like "Palestinians should die" was truly wild. What a horrible person she turned out to be.
@idea_alchemist
The comments on the original video are HORRIFYING. There are so many people who are sick, so many conspiracy theories, and so many awful home remedies. I hate it.
@AmieVarley
This!! I keep seeing anti-vaxxers saying this, but the data shows most nurses got vaccinated. We have so much data that proves why we have a nursing shortage & it has nothing to do with vaccines, but a WHOLE LOT to do with Conservatives consistently attacking healthcare & HCWs.
@amandabb__
I promise some of us on there are still selling stuff we actually made, but yeah, overall, Etsy has gotten so bad. I just wish there was another place to sell art/handmade stuff.
@mavisclare
@clhubes
Commenting in hopes more people read your comment! We're in a pandemic with a virus that can damage immune systems. We have tools to reduce illness, we just need more people to use them!
@foomper
I try to keep to the conservative side of the Long-COVID estimates since some people seem more likely to believe it, but I have seen that many studies have pointed to higher rates, especially with reinfection.
@picardonhealth
I read the article & was just as horrified by it. The article downplays the severity of cancer/that it's a leading cause of death in Canada, & seems to suggest that it's okay people are dying from cancer, because most of them are over 50. Absolutely appalling.
@hutchleah
I’m still super confused how it’s being framed that we’re not challenging institutions too???? Like so many of us are contacting our governments, hospitals, etc. & encouraging others to do the same. But as you pointed out, we have to challenge individuals to do better as well.
@amandalhu
Okay, but in my defence, I once googled the issue I thought I had, told the doctor, the doctor called in two other doctors, none of them could figure it out, & then I turned out to be the one with the correct diagnosis.
@pot8um
As a designer, it's also bad graphic design. Legibility & readability are so important in design, & that poster isn't very legible or readable (especially because of the way the background texture & font interact). Alt Text is always important, but extra important w/ bad design.
@ReesiePeacie
There's a group working with aquariums around the world to repopulate zebra sharks in the wild in Raja Ampat & it's working, so that's just a lil' something nice. Maybe not truly macro, but it's uniting at least some people worldwide.
@gkelly73
@isaiah_bb
@KiraBrook
I just looked this up and ohmygod?!!! This is horrifying. No wonder doctors don’t believe Long-COVID is real. Or that COVID is airborne.
@fridahalo
Yeah, I'm not at all suggesting shows were never cancelled before, but I went to tons of shows (big & small) pre-pandemic & never saw one cancelled. Also worked at a label both pre-pandemic & during the first 2 years & don't remember issues with shows being cancelled much before.
@baddestmamajama
It’s even worse (or better??)—the guy next to Kwame McKenzie is actually an infectious disease specialist... he’s a known minimizer, so it was pretty great getting to see him be uncomfortable.
@Soylent_Spring
Definitely not an expert on this, but my dad was an auditor at a very well-known paint company & I know there were some shortages of raw materials, but I don't think that's an issue anymore. Most of it's corporate greed.
@ladylornamary
@sarahradz_
I'd be really cautious about painting a group that's primarily made up of disabled/immunocompromised people as a cult. People are just trying to survive when we're dealing with a pandemic caused by a virus that has killed & disabled countless people. I understand how difficult it
@gremlita
When I was 16 (I 100% looked 16), my dad & I (35 years apart & we look alike) went out shopping to look for a new desk for me. A guy held the door open for us at the store & said "I'll let the happy couple go first". My dad & I were STUNNED. 🙃🤮
@Imani_Barbarin
As a Canadian, things are not better here. You’re 100% correct with everything you said. Also, Doug Ford is so bad & seriously destroying everything in my province & people are STILL DEFENDING HIM. 😭
@mmciastro
How is saying C0VID is surging based on wastewater surveillance "drumming up irrational fear"? Also, nobody said it was deadly to 99.5%. It does, however, lead to Long-C0VID in 10–20% of people. 1 in 9 adults in Canada have Long-C0VID & 1 in 5 adults in the U.S.
@captain_kinj
Different rapid test brands have different accuracy, but one study showed that testing multiple times increases the accuracy to over 90%. & swabbing mouth + nose increases accuracy as well.
@SabiVM
did a breakdown on the accuracy of rapid tests recently!
New post on Rapid Antigen Tests. Will post the entire thread here instead of just a link, given importance.
A master thread with current data: key concepts, which brands are more sensitive, tips to improve sensitivity & important considerations. 1/7
@SylviaJonesMPP
You're joking, right? Your government has been cutting funding to healthcare (& reducing care) since you first took power. The only reason you gave pharmacists the power to treat certain ailments is so your corporate pals from Loblaws/Shoppers could get richer.
@danitasteinberg
I'm so tired of reading stuff like this every day. When is something going to be done about this??? How much of this is it going to take for people to realize how serious C0VID is?
@laymagdalene333
Aaaaaaaahhh. I really don’t think people have any idea how serious loss of smell can be. And I saw a comment section the other day filled with people saying they got diabetes from COVID. I’m begging people to take COVID seriously.
@TsaiMeLemoni
Seriously!! Summer 2020 & 2021 were so nice. Clear skies, consistent, but not overly-hot temps, & plants grew well. Then everything opened up & summer 2022 & 2023 were brutally hot, w/ erratic weather, were hazy/overcast most of the time, & there were wildfires non-stop.
@singingsox
Also, side note: I had a similar comment on a post recently & I just... it's such a wild take!! The pandemic is global, why tf would it be made for the 2020 U.S. election??? Like sir, I'm Canadian... we have C0VID too, but the 2020 election had nothing to do with us????
@greensnail_
@RichardCityNews
Also, the private clinics tend to upsell patients, which isn't OHIP-covered, meaning many people end up paying out of pocket for procedures because these clinics tell them that the more expensive option is better, even if it isn't.
@IPACCanada
If only there was a simple device powered by physics that people could wear over their mouths and noses to prevent the spread of this airborne virus... oh wait. There is. N95s & other respirators.
@chantz_y
I love how he basically said nothing, just a bunch of buzzwords. Like this is your expert??! But also, I'm so glad he looked uncomfortable most of the time.
@ladylornamary
@sarahradz_
is to keep up mitigations, especially when you have a young family, but again, calling people a cult when we're dealing with a virus that causes 10–20% of people to have post-viral conditions (though this number is likely higher due to reinfection) is wrong. Obviously choose the
@wrath_776
Someone said to me the other day the info I was sharing on COVID must be from YouTube cause I didn't have study links. I sent links & they stopped saying anything, but like you said, this research isn't a secret. It takes 2 seconds to look this stuff up!!!
@MuseWendi
Yes!! The push for purity/perfection is getting weird. I also keep seeing people say if you wear earloop masks, you’re wrong/not protecting yourself. But they completely ignore that there are some disabled & elderly people that can’t reach around to put a headband mask on.
@leslieleeiii
very lucky & privileged to be able to avoid COVID. But I do not, for a second, believe people who are taking zero precautions haven't been infected, ESPECIALLY when I know people who have done everything possible to avoid infection have still gotten sick. So many of the
@blasted_save
Echoing others by suggesting BreatheTeqs! They're available in 4 sizes (5 sizes in black) & 3 colours (including black). They're my family's usual mask & so far we're COVID-free. I knot the ear loops for a better fit.
@danitasteinberg
Excuse me while I go scream for a while because the world keeps ignoring a dangerous virus that's causing major issues worldwide, but no one wants to acknowledge it. 🙃😭
@alidarcb
@cosmyra64
@tyabelxx
@DamnedTherapist
That's absolutely false. Wearing a well-fitted, high-quality mask (AKA a respirator/N95) does an incredible job of protecting individuals from getting infected. Even surgical masks and cloth masks can provide some protection.
