2) despite heart/kidney issues and losing his wife, son in law, siblings and dog in the last 3 years, Bob remained the most positive, upbeat person I’ve ever known. He impacted so many, NOT just his players. The world is a much better place because of Bob Young. Til we meet again.

He was “Mr. USF”. If not for him, pretty sure my broadcast career would’ve ended 27 years ago. Sid is gone, but he will never be forgotten.

Daughter visiting for 1st time since her mother passed away. She fixed her brother a birthday meal tonight in the tradition of mom. While watching a movie I addressed her as Mary. I apologized but Janet said no need to, it was a compliment. I’m now in desperate need of tissues.

Met Bob Young in ‘83 when hired at SFC. Was fortunate to broadcast games the last 7 yrs of his HOF career. Our wives died within 10 days of each other. For nearly 2 yrs had weekly zoom call (along w/ Wade Merry whose wife also died of cancer) to talk about loss and grief (1).

Can’t say I’ve ever experienced a more white knuckle drive than today’s trip from Brandon to SE Sioux Falls. It was like the storm scene in the Wizard of Oz. Half expected my truck to be blown away or a house to come flying across the road. Severe weather is frightening.

Dominant performance by @USFCougarsFB at St. Thomas. Tommies couldn’t move the ball and only scored because of 2 Cougar turnovers. I know it’s only one game but so impressed by the improvement made by this squad. Big things to come, I feel it!.

With my political ranting done. She wouldn’t want me to post this but my wife could use a significant number of thoughts and prayers. 3/4 way thru chemo, she’s battling constant nausea and fatigue. Typically a bubbly person, she’s rarely shown that side lately. Thank you.

Updating my record book. 250th @USFCooFootball radio broadcast today. Record 211-39 in 21 years. Thanks for making it memorable! A 51-13 trouncing of Augustana in the Key to the City game won’t soon be forgotten.

From April 2015. Much has happened since. 4 grandkids, retirement, a pandemic and this fine lady’s passing 4 years ago today. Surprised I’ve not gone hungry, ruined any clothes or caused a household calamity. I’m guessing Mary would be saying “I knew he had it in him”.

The celebration of my wife’s life went well today with masks and social distancing. Great to see many family members, some of us (like the Frederick brothers) together for the first time in years.

Year ago was walking thru McKennan Park memorizing a football lineup (wife was hospitalized blocks away). Upon return, learned the kidney she had removed was cancerous. Since then, the world and life have certainly changed. No longer do I take anyone or anything for granted.

2019 @USFCooFootball season was my 22nd. 269 consecutive broadcasts since 1998. Thanks to @CooCoachA, @PamGohl, @dgenz, @thiattsf and all the players for the help, cooperation, camaraderie and feeling of inclusion thru the years. It’s been a blessing and so much fun.

Son came over tonight and between us we fixed steak, shrimp, mashed potatoes, corn on the cob and broccoli. What a meal! (Ok, I did the spuds and corn) Plus the 63 year old and 39 year old had a nice game of catch. Pleasant Labor Day weekend activity.

5 months after her passing, the loss of wife, mother and grandmother really set in this weekend. Mary’s cremains were placed this morning and now that everyone has left, reality hits hard. Very thankful for the remaining family left!

Many of you know, my wife passed away April 6th. I waited. and waited. and waited some more to see if the pandemic would end. It hasn’t but our family needs closure so we are moving ahead with services recognizing her too short stay in this world.

A first for me during today’s ride on Sioux Falls park system bike trail. I passed a couple walking (man/woman) and noticed the lady had a pistol tucked inside left side of her shorts. Don’t know if it was a real handgun or simply pellet gun but it was definitely disturbing.

Thoughts: @USFCooFootball showed it belonged in NCAA playoffs. Cougars ran ball vs Colorado Mines better than anyone; defense had answer for everyone but 1 guy, simply got worn out (on field season hi 78 plays). Orediggers know they were fortunate.

12 months ago ago today my wife began first of 4 scheduled chemotherapy cycles. Doctor wanted to start before Christmas because it was an aggressive cancer. She never finished those 4 cycles. Hard to fathom it has been a year.

7 years ago (7/28/17) I left full time employment. Retirement hasn’t gone according to expectation but if you can afford it, don’t put it off. There are no guarantees in life. Time goes by so quickly and before you know it our stay here will be over. Make the most of it.
