@aaronquinlan Very open to feedback on how to improve the model described here ( and implemented in fgbio.

@nilshomer @jomarnz @nomad421 @tangming2005 I've always done e.g. start_pos for 1-based and start_offset for 0-based.

@zevkronenberg I used to see segfaults with this intermittently with older versions. Haven't had problems in a while, and I think newer versions "just work" for me.

@cehtolonen @geoffjentry Every interview session we do, there's a slot with the whole team minus @nilshomer and myself, expressly for the candidate to interview our team.

@jomarnz Thank you @jomarnz! Great to finally have this support in bwa directly rather than having to hack it in at compile time!

@nilshomer @holtjma But so much worse. Secondary/supplementary you can close your eyes and ignore without too much damage. Spanned alleles will get you every time.

@ConradRLeonard @nilshomer At the 5' end (start) of the read? Yeah, 100%.

@IanSudbery @nilshomer @aaronquinlan Yes - all reads from a template/queryname go together. Takes the "outer coordinates" (i.e. 5' of the read) of all primary reads, and takes the earliest one in the genome as the sort key. Coordinate is then adjusted (i.e. if 5bp of soft-clipping, bump the coordinate by +/-5).

@geoffjentry But there's really no standard/agreement for what goes in any section, so /shrug? Often hard to tell in the "experience" block what a person did and what tools/skills they deployed. My anology for soft-eng would be a skill block can help tell FE/BE/full-stack apart quickly.

@geoffjentry Hiring for bioinformaticians, it really helps. Not the individual skills, but to see are they i) an R/stats person, ii) a software engineer, iii) a pipeliner, or iv) some hybrid of the above.

@DebSreeSarkar @dr_alphalyrae Definitely included links to LinkedIn, GitHub if you have it, and other public information the hiring manager will go looking for. Fonts: use a sans-serif font unless you want to come across as a relic from the 90s!

@aaronquinlan @euanashley Grew up driving stick. Have a BEV now and it's awesome - so much better than an automatic ICE car. Not sure I'd give it back up for a stick-shift! Also, motorcycles.

@holtjma Not cheap, but the UPLift 4-leg desks are really solid, especially the "commercial" one.
