I submitted feedback on an AMBOSS article about the use of “IV drug users” and suggested they switch to “people who inject drugs” to be more person centered and they got back to me to tell me they are updating the article! Sometimes advocacy works and that’s pretty cool.

I mentioned to my mom that in the future I might not always be able to come home for the holidays because of medicine and she said, “we’ll figure it out then, maybe we’ll just come to wherever you’re living at the time to celebrate when we can.” That made me feel so cared for.

My class has discovered that OnlineMedEd is no longer free and safe to say while we are all not surprised, we are extremely disappointed. The explosion, necessity, and cost of outside med school resources remains untenable.

Something that we don’t talk enough about is how the match negatively affects partners and family members of medical students going through the match. The algorithm isn’t only affecting our futures. It’s pretty unfair to expect other people to be able to drop everything and move.

I just had my first UWorld block where I got a 70% even though I felt horrible taking it and I could cry I’m so happy. This is probably a fluke but after not being able to get above a 50-60% for a week and a half this feels like a win.

My hot take is that shaming med students for pirating/sharing resources that normally would cost them hundreds of dollars is a deeply uncool thing to do and if you’re gonna get mad at anyone get mad at the system that gives many of us just enough to pay rent, bills, and food

One of my medicine hot takes is that we need to do a better job screening for alcohol use disorder and chaotic drinking in our patients before the sequela catches up to them. A lot of people have no idea they are drinking too much or meet criteria for AUD.

@FutureDOctorJP For me it's more about autonomy. In adult medicine, you counsel the patient and they decide if they want to follow your advice. With peds patients, yes you counsel, but it's the parents who have to ultimately consent, not just the patient, and I find it to be a different dynamic

@urcervix_ Doubling down is not the move here - the issue isn’t even about knowledge base, it’s that you called out a specific student on your public social media. That is 100% inappropriate no matter what your intention was and lacks substantial grace. That is the toxic part.

If you are evaluating a med student for a clerkship, please write something (literally anything) in the narrative section. Don’t just write “agreed” or even worse “.” to bypass the required field and just give them a number. Signed, a med student who has had this happen twice.

Med students are using outside resources often more than in-house resources. When will med schools as a whole come to terms with this and either innovate their lectures or switch to evidence based flipped classrooms? For a field where innovation is so important, MedEd is lagging.

@JazmynShaw1 I worked in a GI clinic for 2 years and the ability the do colonoscopies was one of the main dividing lines in scope of practice between the physicians and NPs. From what I hear - scoping is difficult, especially when there is underlying pathology, and should be left to docs.
