Fun fact: Boris Gelfand had only played in our tournament once before, in 1999, when he won brilliantly with 7/9, one point ahead of Movsesian. Five of the players in the current edition (Mishra, Gukesh, Erigaisi, Keymer and Van Foreest) hadn't even been born yet. #TepeSigeman

If there is a tie in the first place, a play-off match of two blitz games (3 minutes with a 2 seconds increment per move as of the first move), will be played to decide the winner. This will be followed, if needed, by ‘sudden death’ games. #TepeSigeman

Mishra - Grandelius also ends in a draw. It was a well-fought game, but on move 24 most pieces were exchanged and the game derived into an endgame with opposite color bishops. Mishra could have probably tried 23.cxd4 to fight for the initiative. #TepeSigeman

Svidler - Grandelius is a Sicilian Najdorf where White went for 6.Qd3. This variant has been played by Carlsen, Caruana, Vallejo and Vidit, among others. In fact, Grandelius already faced this move in his game against Carlsen at the @tatasteelchess tournament in 2021.

The next TePe Sigeman & Co Chess Tournament will be played 3-9 May 2019. 8 players will play 7 rounds at Malmo Live (which replaces the Hipp theatre, which has been the tournament venue during 1998-2018).

In 2023, the tournament will be played from the 4th to the 10th of May. The tournament will move back to the Elite Plaza Hotel in Malmö where the tournament was played in 2021. There, eight invited players will play a round robin tournament. #tepesigeman #chess
