Missed the talk? It's now a blog post!
Thrilled to announce I'll be speaking at #RustConf about Rust's advancements in transmutation safety! Safe transmute is already powering next-gen networking stacks, filesystems, and firmwares at AWS, Google, and others. Language-level support will be even more of a game-changer!

@mitsuhiko @charliermarsh ...and the incremental results we've been able to achieve in the crate ecosystem have provided me the cover to work on multi-year effort to get safe transmute in the Rust compiler itself. If it wasn't for those results, I'd still be working on Tokio, focused on reducing a P99.

@liz_love_lace @Tim_Sign_ Wow, this brings me back — I had the same thing! I kept all sorts of self-contained applications on a thumb drive I brought pretty much everywhere, plus another bootable thumb drive with linux.

@martynschmoll Ha, when trains are slower, it's "driving is faster"; when trains are faster, it's "well, speed isn't everything". It sure isn't! Sipping a cocktail watching the landscape go by is everything.

@colleen_cronin @ecoRInews With a bike, cycling from Barrington to Providence on the EBBP would have also been an option — one approximately as fast as taking the bus! ...and, unfortunately, completely illegal to use after dark, when cyclists are most at risk on roads. :(

@ThunderWolf08 Amtrak should, in fact, give up on Connecticut as a whole, and NEC should be routed through Long Island and tunnel under the sound into Rhode Island — until CT agrees to improve their alignment. /s (unless...)
