@KyivIndependent Totally pro strong US leadership on Ukraine but, as someone who does polling, i just want to flag that this is the kind of nuanced policy option we tend to avoid polling on because people don't usually have the info to give meaningful or informed responses.

@kermiesippymilk My parents are 10 yrs apart and, genuinely, soulmates! When they met, an uninformed outside observer probably could've said the same about them! Let consenting adults find love and meaning how they may.

@bocxtop I feel like it should be obvious that capitalism only incentives innovation in the interest of capital-holders so its public welfare benefits are incidental.

@BillAckman @brooksbanderson @Harvard Hi Bill, appreciate you sharing our work. Still, this piece is ~dissenting~ from our staff editorial, titled "President Gay Plagiarized, but She Should Stay. For Now.".

@jflier @ijbailey @boazbaraktcs Student Kyla N. Golding mourns the end of Gay's presidency and what it means to Black women everywhere. "At the mountaintop, the world robs the Black woman of her breath such that the only option is to let the suffocation kill her or to let it kill her dreams.".

Claudine Gay resigned yesterday. @thecrimson's Editorial team turned around NINE pieces in the 18 hours that followed. Read the staff editorial on our home page and the eight op-eds — from students, profs, and admins all across the map — here:

@jflier @ijbailey @boazbaraktcs Jewish student Samuel P.N. Libenson proclaims that "Gay’s Resignation Is Not a Win Against Antisemitism," warning that it does Jewish people "no service to celebrate the impact that money and influence appear to have achieved in this case.".

@jflier @ijbailey @boazbaraktcs Despite differences with Gay, Pro-Palestinian organizer @guille_hava calls out the McCarthyism of the attack against her. "The fact that such sordid pressure still succeeded marks the nadir of one of our University’s most shameful chapters.".

@WSJ Getting a 1550 says very, very little about you as an applicant, and i am very tired of publications acting like people with scores that are good should auto get in! Harvard gets literally tens of thousands of SAT scores like this each year, and they can't and shouldn't take all.

@jflier @ijbailey @boazbaraktcs @guille_hava Last, @kelishawill writes a thank-you to Gay, from one dreamer to another. "And so, to the dreamer, President of Harvard University, Dr. Claudine Gay, born to Claudette and Sony Gay Sr., I thank you for what you’ve done. Thank you for what you’ve meant to Black women everywhere.".

@jflier @ijbailey @boazbaraktcs @guille_hava @kelishawill I'm really, really tired right now, but I cannot even begin to put to words how thankful I am for our team. People, we didn't even receive most of these drafts until 8 PM yesterday!!!.

@jflier @ijbailey @boazbaraktcs @guille_hava @kelishawill This is a historic moment, and @thecrimson — my team on Editorial, our incredible news reporters, our designers, and more — unequivocally met it. News broke the story that Gay would resign, and now Editorial is the first to shape the discourse about it.

From my second appearance on @11thHour: TikTok's a problem, but I think it's far from unique.
The possibility TikTok could be banned in U.S. has young people up in arms. @tbarone03 says, "it's a little hard to listen to people rattle on about TikTok when there is this fundamental crisis in American childhood."

Former Harvard Medical School Dean @jflier speaks from experience on the need for the Harvard Corporation to change its approach to governance. "A non-fiduciary board cannot substitute for the lack of meaningful input from a distant and lightly-involved Corporation.".

@jflier @ijbailey Professor @boazbaraktcs calls for a recommitment to institutional neutrality to regain trust in Harvard, observing that "Somehow, when Jews were involved, Harvard rediscovered its commitment to protecting speech even when it is offensive.".

I am very, very proud to be part of @thecrimson's Editorial Board today. A needed, righteously angry editorial on the all-out assault on free speech to which Harvard has swung open the gates.

@jflier @ijbailey @boazbaraktcs @guille_hava @kelishawill @thecrimson A special thanks to our editors for working double-time yesterday; to @SellersHill for being crazy enough to say yes to nine; to @CaraChang20 & @raquelco15 for exiting retirement to support it; and most of all to @JacobMeirMiller, my wonderful co-Chair, for doing it all with me.

Or it could be, idk, downstream of the seismic change in college admissions this past year. (Reader, early applications were due before the congressional testimony and much of the national circus).
Harvard College Early Applications Drop 17% From Last Year . It takes 400 years to build a reputation and only a few months to destroy it.

Today @CrimsonOpinion released the most important piece i've written. Why does Harvard have so few low-income students? It fails to sufficiently adjust for class in admissions — and, tirelessly, covers the whole process up.

@jflier @ijbailey @boazbaraktcs @guille_hava Student Lorenzo Z. Ruiz makes the case for a new kind of Harvard president. "That president should buck convention. Should be remarkable and novel. Should be a spectacular amalgam of intellect and charisma armed with the media and strategy staff of any national political entity.".

@WSJ This is not, to be clear, a defense of elite colleges or the artificial scarcity they create! It's just a frank recognition that publications cover admissions in ways that very clearly reflect how long it's been since their reporters themselves applied to college.

BREAKING: Chappell Roan snubbed by Obama and Charli xcx's name incorrectly stylized with the second word in all-caps.
With summer winding down, I wanted to share some songs that I’ve been listening to lately – and it wouldn’t be my playlist if it didn’t include an eclectic mix. I hope you find something new to listen to!

If you read literally anything today, make it this. Such a compelling case of how easy money at Harvard can fuel ego/misconduct/excess.
Over the past two months, @sagelattman and I.spoke with numerous current and former members of the Harvard Foreign Policy Initiative, uncovering a pattern of internal conflict and financial misconduct around under its former president.

Our staff-ed on plagiarism charges against Harvard University President Claudine Gay, in two parts. First, on the ethics:. 1. Gay plagiarized. 2. The nature of the plagiarism suggests clearly that she didn't intend to plagiarize. Conclusion: She shouldn't have to depart.

From @boazbaraktcs:. "Up to this year, I did not think of myself as a 'Zionist' any more than my U.S.-born daughter is an 'Americanist.' I did not consider the existence of my birth country as being up for debate. Yet apparently, at Harvard, it is.".

ICYMI, this past Friday I talked about the Kate Middleton picture that broke the internet on MSNBC's @11thHour. My real concern: What happens when images are AI-generated — not just doctored — and too few people care to catch it?

@HBendaas @daveweigel 1. These are probably lower propensity voters, and relatively few in number . 2. This position could be harmful among a larger, more reliable universe of voters. 3. The Harris campaign has absolutely thought about this particular issue from every angle.
