Excellent article in the Crimson. “I love Harvard, I think it’s the greatest university in the world, and I want it to stay that way...And the only way it’s gonna stay that way is if it’s a welcome place for people to voice unpopular opinions.”

Congrats to Faculty for Yale (), a new faculty organization that will 1) insist on the primacy of teaching, learning, and research as distinct from advocacy and activism, and on the centrality of the faculty to these core activities;

Re universities' hypocrisy on free speech and DEI-oriented censoriousness toward conservative viewpoints, or allegedly racist and sexist statements, I hope universities have the courage to level up on academic freedom rather than down:

The majority of members are senior scholars, but we particularly welcome teaching faculty who do not have tenure. We’ll vigorously defend the academic freedom of the tenured and non-tenured alike.

Some additional thoughts on the @TheFIREorg rankings released yesterday. Rankings suggests a precision that really isn't possible in this kind of issue. But setting aside the "Harvard is the worst" headline, there are some important findings in the survey.
