Awesome visualization of pores and particulate organic matter in a soil aggregate. @drippner uses deep learning tools for image-based analysis of soil structures. Excited to work with him on @EMSLscience proposals and projects that use x-ray CT!

Despite how disconnected things seem at the macro level, at the micro level everything is connected. Ex. <2 mm soil aggregate with POM in brown, unconnected pores uniquely colored, and mineral solids in gray. How does this connectivity influence macroscale processes? Not sure.

I have been thinking about scale in soil lately. Here I segmented a 8x20 cm soil core from a high traffic soil. Large organic matter OM is brown, unconnected pores are uniquely colored. Interesting to the distribution of unconnected pores around OM. @EMSLscience @OrsDragonfly3D
