Assuming I counted correctly the Ludwig Smash Invitational for Melee has:
10 of the top 10
20 of the top 20
27 of the top 30
34 of the top 40
38 of the top 50
Plus Wizzrobe and a bunch of other amazing unranked players.
It has every active player that has ever won a major. Nuts
A father and son came up to the Melee TO desk at Supernova and asked how to hack a wii. Wanting to assist them I escorted them outside so they could hear me better, then I confiscated their badges and reported them to Nintendo. No place for criminals at our smash events smh

This was already one of the most exhausting, burdensome, unfun, miserable years I've had in smash and then on top of it all I get to be the most name-dropped TO in the manifesto. Awesome.
I don't like this politics stuff I just want to enjoy the game that I love man. Fuck
Nintendo stringing SWT along for over a year to put a bullet in their brain three weeks before their event (and the day before Thanksgiving) has to be the most malicious thing they've done to the smash community since EVO 2013.
The pizza man
@thecheatdotcom
has been at this desk for 11 straight hours handling all of the bracket feedback and scheduling conflicts so that everyone that signed up for Mainstage last second has a terrific tournament this weekend. Everyone say thank you to Mikey and BTS
Thursday night at Guildhouse I was talking to Jmook when someone came up and asked him if he was Jflex. Jmook looked at him, smiled, and said "no I'm Jsalt" and the other guy went "oh nevermind then" and walked away. I knew at that moment that Jmook was going to win Genesis.
We got a hold of the SNS CRT vault. Unused for the past 3.5 years. Over 100 of them. Majority 18-23". All of them work. Melee at Riptide this year is going to be so sick.
I held this one back when Nintendo cancelled P+ at Riptide because there was a danger of them coming for the entire tournament, but Riptide is over so here we go. (1/however long this takes)
🌊For the first time ever, join us for a Riptide-only after hours waterpark extravaganza Saturday night! This event is FREE for all Riptide attendees. You will receive a wristband for this when you get your badge at check-in!
At the Ludwig Invitational, the Swiss Pools play will feature 66 unique sets (no rematches). The first round of the final bracket is also guaranteed to provide 8 unique sets as well.
74 consecutive sets between the best players in the world for both games.
Gonna be so sick
Smash'N'Splash 5 sets will now be played in actual pools. If your opponent is timing you out you have permission to dunk them under water for as long as the match has time remaining. Would you rather fight or drown?
Important information regarding the waterpark
Due to construction the lazy river will be unavailable. To make it up to us, the Kalahari will have the Outdoor Waterpark OPEN during Riptide weekend every day from 12pm-6pm.
Genesis was Carson's first ever smash major and he did so well 🥲 I took proud dad pictures of him during his pool and he spent the whole weekend telling people that Armada watched him play in pools
I made the decision to ban NoFluxes from Riptide last year. Not Unsure. Not the other TOs. Not all the people NoFluxes and others have tried to direct their ire toward.
It was my call. I made it. I would make the same decision again.
Many years ago I had reddit account that would post all sorts of crazy true behind the scenes stuff about the community and I would get messages from other TOs asking if anyone knew who ran the account and I would always tell them I didn't know or that it was Blur
First and foremost, the P+ community is home to some of the most talented, passionate, hard working, lovely, friendly, and welcoming people in the world. Their dedication to their game and their community is unparalleled.
Probably my last shoutout on twitter today.
@ArmadaUGS
came from Australia and dealt with 50+ hours of traveling and horrible luck with hotels and flights to attend our event. Despite all of that, not a lot of practice time, and being sick he won Melee Singles.
Absolute legend
Everything you've ever read about the resiliency of the smash community, multiply it by 100 and that's how resilient the P+ community is. While the smash community is rejected by Nintendo, the P+ community was/is sadly rejected by everyone else as a result of fear of consequences
The year is 2050. Top players refuse to play any matches outside of 2pm-6pm. Tournaments only stream top 8 because nothing else makes them money. Commentators have been replaced by deepfake ai of Scar and Toph talking about Ping Pong. Drephen is still handing out Pumpkin Delights
Melee had 92 unique matches on Saturday and Sunday of the Ludwig Invitational
Swiss Pools = 66
Final Bracket = 26
Only rematches were:
Aklo-Pipsqueak
Hbox-Slug
Zain-Hbox (played each other 3 times)

@PracticalTAS
we have successfully submitted the Nintendo of America Licensed Tournament Application for Low Tide City 2024 for Ultimate, Melee, and Splatoon 3. Fingers crossed we get approval in time to launch our trailer this weekend 🙃
Streaming myself filling out the Nintendo of America Licensed Tournament Application for Low Tide City 2024 because we apparently need this approved by Nintendo before we're allowed to announce (confirmed this with our rep also). What a stupid way to spend my Thursday night
Yet they persevered and they found a way to survive, to grow, to continue doing what they love.
The P+ community permeates every area of the smash community as we know it. They are your TOs, your commentators, your favorite players, and your friends.
My deepest sympathies to the P+ community as they fight through this. I will do what I can to continue supporting them in ways that won't get a lawsuit shoved down my throat.
They will persevere. They always have. They always will.
The first ever competitive smash tournament set I watched live on twitch was
@ArmadaUGS
vs
@MVG_Mew2King
at Apex 2014. Here is that set. Watch it if you have the time.
The final shuttle departed. The last of the equipment has been shipped. The lost and found is on the docket for tonight, but otherwise this part of Riptide is officially complete.
I think I am finally comfortable saying that we pulled it off. Shoutouts coming later.
It is crazy to think that EVO 2016 ran the largest open bracket fighting game bracket ever with Street Fighter V (5107 entrants) while also running the largest Melee (2372 entrants) and Smash 4 (2662 entrants) tournaments of all time.
@aidencalvin
If you you're not willing to risk 6-7 figures for no financial gain with Nintendo ninjas ready to murder your event at any moment while man-children complain about not being able to wake up before 4pm then maybe you just don't love the community enough
Everyone thinks tournament rules are a joke until they see their actions cost the organizers thousands of dollars and jeopardize future event contracts.
I've run tournaments for over a decade for numerous sports and video game titles and the Melee community is the absolute worst offender when it comes to signing up for a teams event and then not forming a team. Your game is 20 years old how do y'all not have teammates
As a Smasher who grew up on the old *Pound 4* stagelist, I've honestly kinda missed this
Kongo Jungle 64 is re-legalized for
#TBH11
Melee Doubles. It's the least I can do, and admit it, doubles needs a bit of spicing up
Please do not send hate to Panda employees or contractors. Most of them likely had no idea any of this was going on behind the scenes and are just as shocked and frustrated at the information revealed today as you are.
One of the things I wanted to do before I stopped running tournaments was collect staff badges from every major tournament series but not actually work any of them. I got my passport this year and finished the collection. Behold, my stolen valor collection
Everyone say thank you
@shannondorf_
for providing socials for Riptide 2023! She absolutely killed it and it was by far the best coverage we've ever had at our event. If you're looking to hire someone to do socials for your event hit her up :)
@backdatbairup
Yep, Metagame's conclusion for tournament coverage/storylines ends at Apex 2015. Right before Armada dominated the entire community for like 3 straight years lol
Also miss you hope to see you soon! :D
Ken is one of the most sincere and honest people I know. He cares deeply for the smash community and it is really messed up to see him get libeled like this.
Hard to taking this 32 pager seriously, but since I was called out, I'll respond in a thread.
Here's me talking to Alan about how running to Nintendo and banging on doors about broadcast rights is potentially an existential threat to the entire scene (cut off in his screenshot):
The origin story of many TOs is "nobody was doing it so I did" and often what that looks like is having to learn everything on the fly while making plenty of mistakes along the way while few if any around you offer any support or guidance.
The
#1
priority at Riptide is the safety of all attendees. If you jeopardize that you do not belong at Riptide, plain and simple. I do not want you at my tournament. Go play somewhere else. If somewhere else doesn't want you either, maybe you need introspection.
The next stop on the Panda Cup, The Big House, is the longest running Super Smash Bros. competitive event and the 10th iteration is this weekend in Detroit, MI
With three more spots at the Panda Cup Finale up for grabs, this historic event should live up to its hefty pedigree
Sorry to the players that had to have top 16 matches off stream on Sunday. Stream equipment that worked perfectly for us Friday and Saturday suddenly didn't want to cooperate on Sunday, leading to multiple crashes that delayed us. Going back to only top 8s on Sunday next year.
Squiggs and I TO'd a 100+ person Smash 4 tournament at Daisho Con with 4 setups. Squiggs got all the entrants to sit in the rows of chairs near the projector and called the matches to the setups like it was the Price is Right. If they weren't there we did a crowd countdown DQ.
I was today years old when I found out that nobody has ever won Melee at Genesis and Big House in the same year. Could have sworn Armada or Hungrybox did it but turns out nope. Jmook could be the first 👀
During early planning phases for Low Tide City we talked about how it'd be cool to get ~30 teams for Splatoon. There are 53 competing this weekend, making it the second largest NA Splatoon tournament in history.
They really like the fire pit
In more Smash history; Doramigi, a 13-14 year old Min Min player who has beaten a host of good players before (including Acola, Dabuz, & Cosmos) is sitting in winners finals of MaesumaTOP
#13
. If he wins it, he'll be the youngest major winner of all time, if I'm not mistaken.
Love seeing supportive parents excited for their kids and enjoying themselves. A mom just told me that she got a picture with Mango before her kid did lol
Had an attendee's mother call me in the middle of the night and after resolving her issue I asked her how she got my phone number and the answer she gave me was straight up not ok lmao I'm so glad this is my last year I've had enough of whatever this is
The Grand Final of
#TheSquidHouse
is here!
@FTWavedash
vs.
@South_Lght
for the largest prize pool in Splatoon history!
The prize pool will be capped at $25,000, with any additional funds raised going to charity!
Did somebody order a SPECIAL announcement? 🤔
@PapaJohns
is coming to Super Smash Bros. tournaments across America in 2022! 🤩🍕
Grab a slice and get ready... it's gonna be a big year.
#PapaJohnsSSB
Melee singles top 8 had 1 set go to game 5, didn't have a bracket reset in grand finals, and 6 of the sets were 3-0s.
Ultimate singles top 8 had 6 sets go to game 5, had a bracket reset in grand finals, and only 2 of the sets were 3-0s.
On my way to the airport. Finally going home from Riptide. The number one priority will always be attendee safety. The team put in so much work this weekend making sure that attendees were masked up and masked properly and on average people really did a good job complying.
This not only completely destroys all the hard work that the organizers put in, it destroys the entire year of hard work all of the community put in to partake in the SWT, from other organizers, local scenes, players, production members, and sponsors (that may never come back)
Leffen top 6 winners side of the EVO Strive tournament (2474 person bracket) a month after winning LACS5 for Melee. Built different is an understatement at this point
Tournaments should only seed the top 100 players and then sell the remaining seeds to the highest bidders. Give half the money to the prize pool and the other half to the first top 100 player in the bidder's requested bracket path.
BTS is special. The people that work there are special. The smash community is lucky that these wonderful people have given us so much love and support over the years. Nothing but happy memories. Sad to say goodbye
When I was brand new to smash I learned a lot about TOing by reading Robin's smashboards threads. He is unequivocally my greatest inspiration as an organizer and Big House has always been a massive influence for me. No Big House this year hurts. Will wait for the next one
