I'm absolutely devastated and I need time to unwind.
This is bigger than Big House. It's the future of Melee on the line, right in front of us.
I appreciate your support.
For visibility:
* No core TO staff is on record saying this yesterday
* Hbox has not been able to find or identify who said this
* TBH10 website + twitter + discord all communicated an 11am Sunday start time
Those are the facts as I currently see them
Me: "I have to admit, I hadn't heard of Jmook until a couple months ago"
Boback: "I hadn't heard of Jmook until this weekend"
PewPewU, pointing at
@bobbyscar
: "Bobby probably still hasn't heard of Jmook, and he just commentated his set"
Guy in elevator: "Hey I know you! I love your work, have some advice for you though."
Me: "Thanks. What do you think Big House could do better?"
Guy in elevator: "Oh I meant your Fox. I've seen it on YouTube. I think you should pick a new character to play."
The final stock of
@n0ned
vs
@DS_Spud
, for anyone else who wanted to know exactly how that knee connected.
Shoutouts to
@ProjectSlippi
for making this possible.

As a Smasher who grew up on the old *Pound 4* stagelist, I've honestly kinda missed this
Kongo Jungle 64 is re-legalized for
#TBH11
Melee Doubles. It's the least I can do, and admit it, doubles needs a bit of spicing up
Frozen Stadium has been a byproduct of the covid/online/Slippi era. It's not here to stay for the biggest Melee majors. Please start getting used to vanilla Stadium again whether you like it or not.
To those critical of M2K and Hbox's screentime in
#metagame
, consider this:
As of Jan 2015, the ten biggest Melee tourneys of all-time were won by
Mango: 6
Armada: 2
PPMD: 2
M2K: 0
Hbox: 0
Samox focused on the three winningest at the time. They were a step above the others.
Hi all. Although
#TBH11
felt like a big creative success to me and my amazing staff and collaborators, we've barely, and I do mean barely, squeaked by financially to survive this whirlwind of the past year. (1/4)
I opened up about my experience with navigating TO decisions in an events world dictated by Nintendo in this interview with
@Sportskeeda
. Give it a read.
#SaveSmash
I wanted to say Big House this year wouldn't have been possible without Panda support. I personally had a good experience working with them to elevate our event. They made much of the decor/carpeting/signage possible and helped secure sponsorships while reducing overhead. (1/2)
For the first time in Genesis history, one of Mango or Hungrybox won't make Melee top 8. They'll play each other in the final 9th place match of the night at
#G8
.
Thanks to series of fortunate turns, we have a venue for
@TheBigHouseSSB
next year with a solid accompanying hotel situation. Huge thanks to Eddie of Andromeda for his hard work on this. We'll be seeing you in Michigan in 2022👀
Please no. I travel to supermajors to be one with the crowd, not to hear commentary over the in-house audio speakers.
How would you feel if you were forced to listen to the play-by-play radio broadcast when you attend a football game in person. No thanks
Dunno if this is a hot take or not, but plz put Smash commentary on speakers during important parts of the bracket when most people are in the audience watching
I think it’s a better spectating experience than hearing the shield sounds blasting over the stage themes on repeat
*wakes up in hell and hears Dreamland music*
"Oh wow there are Melee tourneys down here? Sign me up"
R1 opponent: Wobbling ICs
R2 opponent : Planking Puff
R3 opponent:
@bobbyscar
wearing a Melee HD shirt
Please no.
A whole subset of Melee players (myself included) are in it for the social experience, not in pursuit of competitive excellence.
It's crucial to acknowledge that population. We got hurt more by COVID, and TOs would be wise to recognize that when we're back in-person.
I've listened to
@bobbyscar
and
@toph_bbq
commentate for almost a decade, and I think this match might have been their best work ever. An amazingly fitting call for the stage and situation.
This is incredibly shitty and I'm so sorry to those impacted.
I feel sick thinking about how many of our Smash creatives have had their visions and opportunities squashed almost entirely because the parent company refuses to play ball.
I'm still salty about this convo I had on Tuesday
"Are you Juggleguy? I'm a fan!"
:)
"... of your Fox vs Mew2King. It's my favorite set on YouTube."

Today is not only Melee's birthday, but also
@MeleeItOnMe
's birthday. Our first stream was on 11/21/2012 after ROM 5.
I'm blessed to have gone through fun times and challenges with these fine community leaders over the years. Pretty amazing to see how much everyone has grown.
I love that we're celebrating Melee's 20th anniversary with its greatest competitors in the spotlight. They deserve it all.
What an amazing run we've been on. 20 more years?!

Happy to share that I've joined
@chesscom
full-time to help ramp up its in-person event presence! Really excited to shape the branding and upcoming events of an amazing platform to grow the community ☺️
Happy to see these results.
Wobbling is extremely detrimental to the game of Melee. It's not overpowered in a vacuum, but it doesn't have to be to deserve a ban.
I'm glad most of the Top 100 now understands this, and I sincerely hope this ends the wobbling debate for good.
Didn't think it was necessary to say again, but midset coaching should never be allowed at an individual competition like Smash. The undisrupted, unassisted strategic adaptation we demand from a competitor vs their opponent is a huge part of this game and what makes it great.
Extraordinarily happy to see this announcement on my timeline this morning.
I also find this funny:
Evo 2013 fiasco -> The Smash Brothers doc
The Big House C&D (2020) -> Metagame doc
@_samox_
has always come through when the Melee scene needs it most.
Proud to announce that Metagame Documentary is coming to Twitch Dec 11 - 13. Watch

I met Mango at Impulse 2012. Asked him to play, and it was the most fun I've ever had getting triple 3-stocked by his Fox Falco Falcon (which I requested XD)
I asked if he'd come to
#TBH2
. He agreed despite finding out I made the Mango vs Kage ROM trailer. And that's when (1/3)
Just realized if you ask any notable community member about me they prob have something decent to say about me
Ask any random fan that ever met and they'd prob say something decent
Its crazy that if I watched the last 2 docs right now I wouldn't like myself
I want to address a few things going into
#TBH11
weekend, and on my personal account so you know exactly where it's coming from.
This year, costs and challenges associated with venue internet, broadcast production, and union labor are astronomically higher than ever.
(1/5)
Main reasons. The biggest open Melee majors are:
1. constrained by various policies out of our control
2. in no financial position to risk everything because of a licensing breach
3. more obliged to remain as accessible as possible to the common player
I'm still trying to process some of the details shared in the accounts this week, but I wanted to quickly post the above. I think it's important to hear all sides, and now that I have, I'm doing my best to make my own conclusions, as difficult to stomach as they might be. (2/2)
Pleasantly surprised by these results.
We can't play on CRT TVs forever. As someone invested in the future of the scene, I believe we should move to a sustainable hardware solution if it's able to maintain gameplay integrity.
Is it finally time?
The one year Evo finally brings in great leadership is the same year the galactic N-pire shuts down Smash at it. Very disappointing.
Parent companies should grow side-by-side with their competitive gaming communities, not suppress them.

GOD DAMNIT LOL
If you're an event organizer, community figure, or anyone in a position of authority, it's about more than just showing up and running brackets. It's about constructively managing personalities, doing business with people in a decent way, and creating a culture of positivity.
Low-key,
@ArmadaUGS
has been the MVP interviewee of
#metagame
so far.
So many of Melee's threads go through him, and he's opened up beautifully to put context to them.
I'm really enjoying our deeper look into the Lindgren family values and philosophy.
The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good people to do nothing.
This week, make an effort to help your Smash-tangential friends get educated about

.
I've found
@radarssbm
's video to be a great one to share with them first.
If you enjoyed the event in-person or at home, and want to help make future events possible, our merch store is still open until Thurs night Oct 26th: (2/4)

This guy is about to receive an entrance of booing like we've never seen in a tennis arena. And I'm here for it.
Novak Djokovic will get a chance to defend his Australian Open title after receiving a medical exemption to travel to Melbourne. Djokovic said he has “an exemption permission” to compete at the tournament. Vaccination is a requirement to play in Melbourne.
This is the moment I realized M2K was a god.
Without Twitch/Twitter then, I just heard rumors from a friend that someone took out Ken+Isai+Manacloud back-to-back-to-back.
No way. I thought my friend made it all up.
Then I saw the M2K vs Crazy Return upload on google video.
It’s 2007, and crews for the national tournament Zero Challenge 3 were coming to a close.
Ten of Melee’s strongest players at the time were set to face off, featuring familiar names on either side like Ken, Isai, PC Chris...and
@MVG_Mew2King
.
While it had its share of bumps,
#metagame
is an incredible production and achievement. I'm incredibly grateful to Samox for bringing to life so many Melee stories from the 2009-2015 era. For taking on the task of weaving together that many narratives for a broader audience.
In my decade+ playing Melee, I don't think I've ever seen a set ending like this
Happened at the same venue as M2K vs Kels from Super SWEET eight years ago, btw 😅
Today is a great day to celebrate Smash!
Super Smash Bros Melee's 16th birthday.
Super Smash Bros Wii U's 3rd birthday.
@MeleeItOnMe
's 5th birthday.
Here's to many more.
Wizzrobe reaching top 8 of both Melee and Ultimate at
#SnS5
is an incredible achievement.
We haven't seen a dual-game result this strong at a tourney this stacked since Mew2King at Apex 2014.
I met Leffen at
#TBH4
. He was on a tear that year and I invited him over after PP deconfirmed. I was super happy and pleasantly surprised he came, because we weren't quite supermajor status yet, and he had already made a long trip to both Apex and MLG/Evo earlier that year. (1/4)
I don't care if the doc portrays me better next ep. So many people won't catch the premiere tomorrow and will just end up assuming that whatever was said in this one was true.
My quick reaction: this is great for Ult, and TBD for Melee.
Even after all Melee's been through, I still feel there's potential upside to partnering with N if done right with consideration to our needs + institutionalized formats.
Ofc, that's a big if. I'll await more details.
We are proud to announce our partnership with
@NintendoAmerica
In 2022 Panda will bring the first officially licensed circuit for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and Super Smash Bros. Melee to North America.
More details for this short series of events with cash prizes coming later.
Somehow, some way,
@_samox_
has completely lived up to the crazy high expectations and hype with
#metagame
three episodes in. I'm so impressed at how he's woven all these stories together through the interviews and footage.
