Let’s put it this way.
I start at 100 lbs.
Year one: I gain 10% (10 pounds, now 110 lbs)
Year two: I gain 10% (11 pounds, now 121 lbs)
Year three: I gain 10% (12 pounds, now 133 lbs)
But today, I’m down to gaining weight at only a 3% rate. I’m still up 33% from when I started
