I can think on one thing a General Election would solve. .
Just to be clear - a General Election will not solve the #Brexit crisis. The only way out of the mess is @peoplesvote_uk #FinalSay #LetUsBeHeard.

I'm sorry Amber. If politicians don't respect the result of the first referendum why should anyone believe they will respect the result of another one?.
.@AmberRuddHR admits that a Second Referendum ‘would probably be better than a General Election’ which may not solve anything. #Peston

Having campaigned on behalf of Hong Kong BNO Passport holders I welcome this news. I will continue to press for positive action until we get the right outcome.
#HongKong after a hard campaign, I am hearing strong rumours that @GOVUK *WILL CHANGE* the citizenship status of BNO passport holders! We must be cautious as we don’t have the detail, but this is an extremely encouraging first step.

Three weeks ago these same people were taking the government to court to cancel prorogation so that Parliament could 'hold the government to account' over Brexit. Now we offer them an extra day and they don't want it.

Dear Mr Verhofstast. It's not your job to tell UK MPs what to do in representing our constituents. No one here is glorifying no deal but neither are we afraid. If no deal is the outcome it will be as much the responsibility of the EU for backing the UK into an untenable position.
Those, like Jeremy Hunt, who glorify a no–deal #Brexit are totally irresponsible. It is not the job of politicians to make the people they lead poorer, remove opportunities, rights & make lives more uncertain. There is no such thing as a "managed no deal".

The EU basically keep moving the goal posts. It's pretty clear they will not agree to us leaving in a way that we would be free from their shackles. They fear a truly free and independent UK. They know we will thrive. Its time to leave. No more delays.
EU in danger of appearing to negotiate in bad faith. Michel Barnier was quite clear in his speech of 10th Oct 18 that customs checks could happen in NI/RoI away from border and that animal/food checks could happen in Irish Sea. Who wants to be a member of a club you can’t leave?

In 2017 1000's voted @Conservatives because they trusted us to keep our word to deliver a proper Brexit on schedule. If we now fail to keep our word and delay or fudge the disillusionment will be massive. I for one am committee to leaving on 29/3. This is about trust in politics.

We have a strong field of candidates to be our new PM. After careful consideration I've cast my vote today for @KemiBadenoch - I believe she presents a fresh and positive vision of the country we want to be. She would cut through and deliver change.

What would an extension achieve? If the EUs position is fixed we cannot agree a deal no matter how long we take. It would just have been helpful if they had told us this three years ago.
After 45 minutes with Boris in No10, European Parliament President David Sassoli says there are only two options left for Brexit, "an extension or No Deal".

But you wouldn't vote for the deal they did want! Just admit the blatantly obvious. You will never vote for any deal because you don't want to honour the referendum result. Stop trying to take people for mugs.

I have no time for this. These ministers accepted their role knowing what gov policy was- no deal is better than a bad deal, no CU etc. I have declined junior Gov jobs because I was not prepared to be bound by collective responsibility. They should have done likewise.

Seriously!? If passed this bill will mean the UK must accept any extension to leaving that the EU state - no negotiating just roll over and accept it. 6 months, a year, 10 years? Madness. That's a constitutional outrage right there!.
This part of the Brexit extension bill is v. significant. It states the EU can choose the length of the extension - without a limit - and the Prime Minister must agree to it:

I'm sure I remember Nick Clegg and many others advocating Remain tell us that this would never happen. An EU army is now backed by Germany and France. Surely this removes any doubt that our nation was right to vote Leave.

It appears that Ian Blackford has not considered this question. Or he has and his hypocrisy is clear for all to see.
Very awkward moment here for @IanBlackfordMP . “Can we take it then that if Scotland ever voted to leave the United Kingdom, the SNP would never agree to leave the United Kingdom until the British Government had chosen to give Scotland a deal?” @bernardjenkin

Evade scrutiny and accountability by calling for an election? What nonsense.
It is astonishing and appalling that the PM is so determined to evade scrutiny and accountability, that he's prepared to shut down Parliament and silence the people's representatives at a time of national crisis.

I know. So shocking that MPs would actually keep their manifesto commitments and deliver on a democratic vote! I'm afraid the Lib Dem leader really has lost any sense of what democracy means.
If Boris Johnson somehow delivers a Brexit deal, it will be because Labour MPs voted for it. Remainers will not forget that.

Yes David he does because you and your colleagues voted for the Surrender Act that handed the decision for an extension to the EU - or did you not realise what you were voting for?.
The French President has more influence over the length of our extension than the British Prime Minister. Brexit is not taking back control, it's giving it away.

If ever there was any doubt about our decision to leave the EU (which I have never doubted) this quote from the former EU President surely exposes their attitude to us - who would want to stay when they think this of us? We must stand firm and leave as soon as possible.
Former EU President Herman van Rompuy:.“. with their backs against the wall, the abyss in front of their eyes and a knife on their throat. We are nearly there. If some time is needed after the end of March then that will not be a problem for the 27.”.

And people wonder why we do not trust the EU. This is at the root of opposition to the deal and backstop. We simply do not trust them to keep their side of the bargain. The suspicion remains that they will keep us locked into the CU. One reason why I will not vote for the deal.

What an appalling comment. Just maybe those old enough to remember what life was like before we joined the EU are worth listening to.
This Saturday Britain turns a remainer nation: more young remainers joined the electoral register, more old leavers died. A Final Say vote would stop the will of dead ruling over the will of the young:

We keep being told there is no mandate for a no deal Brexit - which we could argue about. Well there is certainly no mandate for a 2nd referendum. If you want one put it on your manifesto and let's put it to the country in a General Election.
SIGNIFICANT: Shadow Brexit Secretary @Keir_Starmer argues that if Boris Johnson gets a deal then it must be put to a confirmatory referendum, and implies heavily that a referendum should come before any general election. That's McDonnell, Watson, Starmer all pushing ref first.

I voted for the Withdrawal Agreement at the 2nd & 3rd votes because I wanted to prevent a delay to us leaving. The PM was complicit in delaying our exit. The reasons for supporting the WA have ceased. I cannot support this latest betrayal of our commitment.

Anyone who thinks the ERG have been pandered to is deluded. Most Eurosceptics are the ones who have made more compromises than anyone else.
We are in this mess because the PM chose in 2016 to pander only to the ERG and not to reach out and compromise, she is still in that mode. What last night tells us is that the rest of parliament must be willing to do what she won't: to compromise in the interests of the country.

Tony expresses what people in Cornwall are telling me every day. The debate was had in 2016. We do not need to rerun the arguments. The country made a decision and it's time to #GetBrexitDone.
It doesn’t matter why I voted to leave, I don’t have to justify my decision, I don’t have to prove I’m a decent person. I had the right to vote, there were two choices. When the votes were added more people voted to leave - that’s the only justification we need to leave the EU.

I do think we are on the verge of seriously losing the plot. We will be left with nothing of our culture if we end up banning songs such as Swing Low. It's the road to nowhere.
So “Swing Low, Sweet Chariot”, celebrating the Underground Railway, written AFTER the Civil War by a freed slave, made popular by the African American Fisk Jubilee Singers, sung at many black funerals and civil rights demonstrations, honoured by Congress, now to be banned.
