Great thread by @hmgillow . As he says, the Executive in the UK has largely chosen to give power away, and could take it back. For all that some in politics envy the power of US president, he is in reality much more constrained
This piece by @stephenfhwebb is fascinating. Interesting to think about the implications of two branches of government effectively allying to stymie the powers of a third (eg with the impoundment and the powers of Congress here) in a system of balances. 1/

@SAshworthHayes @robfordmancs worth noting the 20% figure only covers those who will be personally worse off from studying. Combine those with individuals whose study is fiscally negative and you get net almost 50% of students

@BarryPCotter well two declining powers should probably help eachother out! Our regulations are identical to the EU's which is obviously very different to the position with the US
