I saw a Tumblr post that explained this mindset pretty well. It boiled down to in fiction being annoying is worse than being evil because the evil character is fictional but our annoyance with a selfish or badly written character is very real.

the 'Superior' Omnitrix had a problem the 'less perfect' version didn't where if you tapped the button too hard it would randomly time you out or give you the wrong alien.
Once this was explained to Ben he proceeded to continue hitting it too hard for the remainder of the series.

Fun fact, that wasn't actully Harley in that scene. Earlier in the episode she was arrested and rather than bail her out the Joker just hired some random look alike lady to be the 'New Harley'.
Don't worry Harley classic got her much deserved revenge at the episode's end.
