In-Hospital Bleeding and One-Year Outcomes in Acute Coronary Syndrome Patients: A PRAISE Registry Analysis 🩸 🫀 Our latest study, led by @LuigiSpadafora and published in the Journal of Cardiovascular Pharmacology @JCVPOnline, investigates the impact of in-hospital bleeding (IHB) on one-year outcomes in patients admitted for acute coronary syndrome (ACS). 🔬 Key Findings from 23,270 Patients: ✔ IHB significantly increases the risk of mortality and major bleeding at one year (p < 0.001). ✔ Patients with IHB were older, more often female, and had more cardiovascular risk factors. ✔ IHB was linked to lower use of optimal medical therapy at discharge. ✔ Radial access, DES implantation, and preserved LV function were protective factors against IHB. 💡 Why It Matters: IHB serves as a marker of vulnerability in ACS patients, emphasizing the need for closer follow-up and tailored management strategies. 🔗 @MarcoBernardiMD @gbiondizoccai @SABOURETCardio @ColletCarlos @Fabri84Dascenzo @AgostoniPF

🌍 Time to Rethink Obesity: Beyond BMI 🩺 As highlighted by @TheLancet, it’s time to redefine obesity. Traditional BMI thresholds fall short, especially in older adults, where high adiposity can exist even with “normal” weight. A few months ago we explored this concept in a study published in Maturitas @maturitas_j: Predictive Values of Relative Fat Mass (RFM) and BMI on Cardiovascular Health in Older Adults 🔗 Read the full study here: 🔍 Key Findings: ✔️ RFM is a better predictor than BMI for identifying cardiovascular risk. ✔️ High RFM (≥27% for men, ≥40% for women) correlates with:hypertension in women, diabetes in both sexes, greater likelihood of having 2+ cardiovascular risk factors ✔️ RFM is a reliable tool to identify older adults at heightened cardiometabolic risk. 💡 Takeaway: It’s time to shift focus from weight to adiposity, especially when assessing cardiovascular health in aging populations. @r_calv
