Disclaimer: This is not “Germany-bashing” but simply something that needs to be acknowledged & discussed in 🇩🇪 debate. Presumption of universalism happens in all big countries (👀🇫🇷), but what is annoying in the 🇩🇪 case is that we pretend to be different when we’re not.
That is unfortunately often not the case because the debates are frequently based on the presumption that the German experience is universal, instead of facts from the 🇫🇮 or 🇸🇪 reality. It can lead to highly suggestive moderation that pushes the debate into a certain direction.

Very good summary, much along the lines of what I've been saying recently. Interesting to note that I received almost no requests from German media, but several from French outlets. Berlin is busy with itself unfortunately.
Hard to articulate just how far Germany's star in EU has fallen. In Bxl & EU capitals, Berlin is seen to be on wrong side of every important debate - weapons to Ukraine, more fiscal solidarity in Europe, energy market interventions etc. It's even affected bilateral Fr-Ger ties 1/

There is a lot to criticise in this deal (MFF priorities, rebates, RoL) - but nevertheless it is a historic moment for 🇪🇺. Finding a deal with 27 leaders w/ unanimity is a hugely difficult task - but they did it after 5 days of negotiations, and only a few months after 1st wave.

Sanctions news: The EU is currently preparing its 5th sanctions package, mostly to strengthen existing ones. EU leaders are tip-toeing around a Russian oil & gas import ban, although this would be the most effective sanction so far. /7
