Imagine my friend called me yesterday evening to tell me “Happy Birthday.” Last thing she said was “we goin link and celebrate when I get back.” Now I get the news that that will never happen. That was our last conversation forever. 💔💔💔
As an SLT doing my thing in a small Caribbean country it always feels like such an amazing accomplishment to be recognised by organizations like
@RCSLT
. Thank you for reaching out to me and sharing my story. I feel honored. ☺️☺️☺️☺️☺️
I just fixed a ‘ch’ in an initial assessment session. Up to sentence level!! Then she instantly transferred it to conversation. The mum was like what magic did you just do??? The Christmas miracle I needed to end the work year.
The “stop complaining and be grateful because many people have it worse than you” crew is one of the reasons we have such a huge mental health crisis. Let people process/ talk about their trauma.
This is my house. This is me looking in at the random man who decided it was ok to come this blessed bank holiday and fly a kite from my deck. This feels like an If Johnny has 5 apples question cause right now I am not computing.
10 years ago I ignored the people who said small businesses don’t last in Barbados, took the plunge, and started my practice. Was it easy? Hell no! But it sure was worth it! So proud of where EasySpeak is today and thankful for where we’re going. Looking forward to another 10+!
I want to tweet about parents’ class projects disguised as children’s projects but it’s only going to make me annoyed…..so let me go make this canefield in silence.
I think I was the first Black person in my speech therapy program. It was an interesting adventure, with clients never having seen/interacted with a Black person before, and clinical supervisors not quite sure how to handle it.
The mini has a new game called “lecture” where she teaches speech and language therapy. Tonight’s presentation: “How to help your child learn big words.” She has been going for a good 20 mins now. Seems to be a good one.
Excited to start a new chapter of my life this week as a lecturer in Health Sciences. Teaching Introduction to Speech and Language Therapy. Nope I have not been hacked. I have actually entered academia.

When I was 9 I would never have stood at a podium before an audience to give a speech on world issues. However this brave little mini fought her fears and has made it to the finals. Lord knows I stay proud of her ❤️.
Ooh look, Speech Pathology Australia has a whole page dedicated to COVID-19 information, including information on maintaining clinical standards through telepractice......
You know when you're falling asleep and the most random questions pop into your head....like do animals have developmental milestones for skills like object permanence?

Donna always saw the potential in everyone, and was the gas up for your dreams and plans. If I told her I wanted to go to space she would be like call Fred man, he has a contact at NASA. We gonna get you a rocket by the end of this year.
I just sent a message to another mum asking if her daughter could come over so she and Nailah could have a funeral and bury their bees together…… When they say parenting is not a real place this is it.
Need some help from Bajan Twitter please. I have a family with two little boys 4 and 6 years, who are both in special ed classes. They currently can’t access their online classes because they have no devices. Who can I reach out to for support with this?
The mini turned 7 today and had a blast. I feel there should be a badge or something for raising a tiny human another year without breaking him/her. To more of these unbreakables.
Got an alert from my security cameras at the clinic and thought there was an intruder. Turned out to be our neighbour who decided to come over and wet the plants outside. Bless her soul.
Me: oooh look Harvard has a course on Fundamentals of Neuroscience, that would be interes......
My brain: Listen you’re over here struggling through fundamentals of telepractice. You chill 😒
Told this child we’re going to the market. She comes out in a romper, heels, 4 strings of pearls, bracelets and sunglasses telling me she’s ready and fabulous! I cannot….
10 years ago today I started my first job as a speech therapist. I was excited and terrified, and prayed that a by-pass bus would come to get me to Belleville on time (it didn’t). I never imagined I’d be where I am today but I’m forever thankful.

Today means a lot to me. It’s showing steps towards that light at the end of this seemingly never ending tunnel. It gives me hope. 1 dose of the Oxford AZ vaccine done.
I don’t know
@HoyteKrystal
personally, but I’ve been watching her growth and I’m sooo proud of her. Love to see these young women making waves and doing amazing things. Warms my heart.
Dear Speechie, we see you over there making homework packs for your kiddos who can’t come to therapy. We see you trying to crash course on telehealth and set up platforms to provide services. We see you sharing materials and giving tutorials for your colleagues.

Dear restaurants, curbside pickup means that you order your food and pull up to a designated area for someone to bring it to you. If you have to go in to get your food it’s called Takeaway. Please stop advertising services you don’t actually offer. Thanks!
I cried a little tonight as I typed the letter to clients, letting them know that we’re closing our physical doors. I know we’re moving online, I know we will get through this but I just need some time to sulk for my baby (practice).
#myheartissad
The EBP speechies are over on facebook fighting with (read attacking) the NLA speechies about gestalt language processing and I just find it crazy how we can’t just all get along and support children’s language needs. SMH
Felt good being able to see my school kiddos in person again. From a pandemic to a whole volcanic eruption....it feels good to be back. Danced into every classroom this morning like heyyyyyyyy!!!
Today I had therapy in 3 different countries and two different languages. Don’t ask me to do anything else for the rest of the day.

February to March for me is dedicated to learning more about paediatric motor speech disorders and SSD. I’ve started the 4 hour course on DTTC with Prof. Strand (which is free btw) for treatment of Childhood Apraxia of Speech.
#slpeeps
Week before she called and gave me a whole business plan on how to build my interior design business alongside my practice. Always ready to see you win.
Dear Lord, the people you sent down here to assess and diagnose the children out here calling everything Autism again. Release them from the shackles of throwing this label at SPD, apraxia, language delay and everything they not sure about.
Guess who taught a pretty decent class tonight on Fundamentals of Sound and Anatomy & Physiology of the auditory system!! Professor Purdy would be proud of me 😊.
Was super nervous (but excited) about having two little boys meet each other for the first time for a social skills teletherapy session. However they rocked it and I had to hold back tears. The moms reported that they were talking about each other all day!!
Did some affirmations today with a teenage client as she worked on her fluency strategies and the one which brought a teary eyed moment for both of us was “I have so much more to bring to the table than my stutter.”
So proud of myself for how brave I was today, despite my anxiety. Anesthesiologist asked me “are you ready?” I said “nope, but I showed up, so let’s do this!” That was huge for me.
My 3yo let me sleep in till 8 am this morning. I woke up and she was there sitting on my bed playing quietly, and she said "you were tired, so I was quiet so you could get a little bit of rest."
I do not know this person!!!

we sometimes lose sight of how beautiful our craft is. This is your gentle reminder that what you do is special. Every single day you touch lives. Don’t ever let it get old. You are awesome 🤗
This child is seriously having a full on session with her imaginary client. She just told client that she has to turn on her video and unmute her mic so she can learn. I cannot.....
I love those random encounters with strangers where they recognize my name and tell me I’ve helped their cousin/auntie/grandson/father/neighbour. They are beautiful reminders of my small impact in this world ❤️.
Listened to the mini give me a whole impassioned lecture tonight on why people shouldn’t kill cows. Didn’t have the heart to break it to her steak loving self.
It has definitely been a term of hard work and some serious dedication. She has amazed and impressed me every step of the way. I’ll forever be her no 1 cheerleader!
Lost 2 inches on my waist and gained an inch on the booty. By November 21st if y’all want to reach me you’re gonna have to speak to an agent or contact a bookings only email or something.
#hottgirlchristmas
I’m more tired doing telepractice than face to face therapy. Usually I can power through 6 sessions back to back without taking a break. 4 sessions in here and I feel like I’ve done a day’s work.

My undergrad thesis (psychology) was on female juvenile delinquency. So many stories, I learnt so much. I remember in the research findings, the primary cause of wandering was escaping abuse of some kind at home.
Can we talk about how
@PriceSmartba
let their customers order online for VAT free day then cancelled all the orders late last night, leaving them with nothing but sorry?

September 7th 2021. A proud day in history. Everyone cheered for us this evening because they knew our journey. They saw us fall (hard as ****) last week. They saw us get up and go again. We didn’t give up and here we are.
#mummymoments
Everyone's story is not yours. No one can predict your story. There are people who will see your passion and your energy and try to hold you down. It's up to you to decide where you let that take you.

Just over 10 years ago when I was applying to study speech therapy I met the most discouraging lady who tried to crush my interests. Apparently she had studied SLT a few years before, came back home, couldn't get registered, couldn't find a job.
