When Azerbaijan invaded in Armenia in 2020, not only was the Azerbaijan Grand Prix not cancelled, but spectators had the convenience of visiting the newly opened military trophy park showcasing helmets of dead Armenian soldiers, among other things, only a few minutes drive away.

We remember 19 yo Robert Abajyan, who during Azerbaijan's offensive in April 2016, suffered a wound to the leg, and fought against the Azeris with limited ammo. When they approached, he pretended to surrender, and hiding a grenade in his palm, sacrificed himself for his homeland.

The Ottomans taxed non-Muslims (jizya). The Ottomans forcibly took Christian boys and converted them to Islam (Devshirme). The Ottomans pillaged many churches, and when they did not, they converted them to mosques. The Ottomans murdered 2mil+ Christians in the 20th century alone.

For my non-Armenian followers who aren't aware April 24 is Armenian Genocide remembrance day. On this day in 1915, Ottoman authorities arrested hundreds of Armenian intellectuals and community leaders in Constantinople. What followed is the murder of 1.5 million Armenians.

Daily reminder that the Armenian Genocide was not restricted to 1915. It was an attempt by 3 successive Ottoman/Turkish governments to erase the Armenians, Greeks and Assyrians from their homeland. Each government benefitted from the genocide committed by the previous one.

In 1912, Turkey made its first appearance in the athletics competition of the Olympics. Both athletes representing the nation were Armenians: Migir Migiryan and Vahram Papazyan. There were many Armenian athletic groups at the time; sports were booming right before the Genocide.

Turkey has recently approved the conversion of the Greek Chora Church, built in the early 4th century when Turks didn't even exist in Anatolia, from a "museum" into a mosque. Who cares though, since Armenians and Greeks were "nomads" who came to the Turkish homeland.
