A slave in the Ottoman Empire could be a Grand Vizier or a Grand Admiral. An African-American in US, 100 years after their emancipation, could not take a bus with the whites. American slavery is a different form of slavery. It should be set apart from other non-western pre-modern forms.

Have been reminded of this post and it’s worth noting the Palestinian organiser of this Assyrian exhibition from a few years ago in Gaza, is still there amidst the genocide that has been going on for over a year. Solidarity with him and with Gaza
From the 3 day exhibition organised by Muhammad Jihad Ismael and YMCA in Gaza on Assyrians. Held around the time of our new year (Akitu) he spoke to attendees about our history, culture and plight. We won’t forget Palestine which opened its arms to our refugees ❤️

May 23rd marks the anniversary of the martyrdom of Nabil Khoshaba Kuliana. Comrade Nabil had been fighting off Al Nusra for a year until he was tragically killed in Tel Tamer, 2013. He became the first martyr for the Assyrian Khabour Guards (M.N.K)
