Pacquiao has two times as many votes as Moreno and four times as many as Lacson. Pacquiao walked the high road all along, Moreno and Lacson took shots at Robredo, the most dignified candidate in the campaign. Voters noticed, I think.
I knew the Philippine passport was weak internationally but it surprises me to hear that it is also weak in the Philippines. You can no longer leave the country with it alone. You may have to provide a huge portfolio of data, including financial statements, to travel overseas.
Australia is pissed at China. So is Great Britain. So is America. So is much of Europe. So is Viet Nam Malaysia, Japan, India. But your Philippines plays Mary Poppins, gay and happy, because a few lords are getting rich by peddling the sovereignty of the nation.
The Philippines can run up trillions of debt but not issue license plates, pay nurses, or get people to work. But it can field thousands of cops for a speech and build cement roads with light posts in the driving lane. And every agency head and legislator will brag of his work.
So if I run over someone and hide out for a couple of weeks, the police can't arrest me? And if I don't pay my taxes, BIR gives me a wink and a nod? And if I'm innocent and State witnesses recant, they'll keep me in jail? My God, Lady Justice is a blind drunk in the Philippines.
The alternative to lockdown would have been closing the door to infected countries, obsessive contact tracing, and lots of testing. The PH kept the doors open, did sloppy tracing, and had no testing. These are choices. Now Govt is arresting citizens as if they made the decisions.
Leni is a genius. She doesn't say changing quarantine status is dumb. She says if the economy is a priority, align scarce vaccinations with that priority and vaccinate out-of-home workers first. It's rare to see higher-level conceptual thinking in government.
The diversity of support for Robredo is astounding. Old, young, Catholic, Muslim, left, right, businesses, health workers, fisherfolk, farmers, professionals, educators. Amazing. Others are left standing in awe or are so threatened they make up stories. The lady keeps smiling.
The Maria Ressa trial for cyber-crime is drawing a lot of international attention. It runs against the grain of trying to attract foreign investments. "What kind of rotten place you got there, trying to jail a Nobel hero."
Math in the Philippines. One rally has 300,000 people in space that can only hold 90,000 and another has 90,000 people in a packed space able to hold 500,000. And it is possible to cut the price of rice in half by waving a red and green wand and shouting "hocus pocus!"
The coronavirus is a huge vulnerability for President Duterte. President Aquino was not involved. No one forced the President to keep the doors to travelers open; he did what China wanted. No underling screwed up. Jokes won’t work.
And Trolls can get the virus, too.
Why does Leni Robredo, long after the election, strike fear and envy in the winning side? It's truly incredible how intelligence and good character cause panic among the dealers of impunity, corruption, and power. These people don't want a successful nation. They want theirs.
Wow. If my wife flies alone internationally, she must show: Passport. Boarding pass. Visa. Return ticket. Hotel confirmation. Bank statements. Employment.
Employment? Marriage certificate. Copy of my passport. Residency certificate, whatever that is.
No wonder lines are long.
One thing I don't understand. The Robredos represent Filipinos in such an upbeat, classy way. But some people complain. How would they prefer Filipinos be seen? As thugs and thieves? As beggars and paupers? As dumb and indolent?
Aha! ABS-CBN pays 70B in taxes. Close them! Pogos refuse to pay 50B in taxes. Open them! Trolls support this. People love the President who orchestrates it. Congress nods. The AFP defends it. PNP arrests critics. Your Philippines . . . more than one screw loose.
Well, if Leni Robredo were President, UP's budget would not be cut, nor would there be 10 billion in confidential funds, nor would flying around the world be more important than fixing corruption. That's my guess. Young Filipinos should advocate for more intelligent voting.
“This fucking country . . .” I’ve been here for 15 years. The Philippines may be poor, may be struggling, may be politically conflicted, may be tribal or feudalistic, may be directionless and corrupt, and may be storm-wracked. But it has never been “this fucking country”.
I respect President Aquino because he ran his office like a business executive. It was a working presidency. Demanding in cabinet meetings, transparent, working on hundreds of projects, disciplined financially, showing up at hearings, building international respect. I miss him
It seems that VP Duterte has successfully launched Senator Hontiveros as the dominant opposition leader. My goodness, the Senator has exploded across the internet as a voice of calm professionalism and humor not intimidated by the name-calling troll from the South. Wonderful.
Boy, that Senator Hontiveros is good. She's the adult in a room full of brats, the queen of principle, the real attorney in a room full of pretenders. She is kind while others scream their self-serving demands. She gives hope by being on our side, the side of sense and solutions.
Bong Go is gone, Isko Moreno has reached desperation, Manny Pacquiao is smiling, cool, and going nowhere, Ping Lacson is pushing on along a well-worn empty road, Bongbong Marcos is faking it, and Leni Robredo is the leader in pink, a target of the rest.
If Pacquiao governed like he fought, the Philippines would be world class under him. Unfortunately he governs like he's dealing poker in the back room where the lights are dim, the smoke is thick, the liquor is flowing, and the goons stand by with bad breath.
GMA News, ignorant and small-minded, a symbol of why the Philippines does not rise on high-minded ideals, but wallows instead in gossip, politics, and personalities.
I tell you, the Philippines is an economic monster being held back by the chains of corruption, patronage, and government incompetence. Man, free her up! We'll all get rich!
THE PHILIPPINE ECONOMY grew by 5.7% in the first quarter, outdoing most of its peers in Southeast Asia despite slowing consumption and government spending, according to the local statistics agency.
I find it darkly ironic that the Philippines will hassle the hell out of ordinary travelers because of trafficking, but will do absolutely nothing about a notorious child trafficker wanted by the FBI. Because, y'know, impunity.
President Aquino was a productive President. People didn't see it. They thought he was boring. So they elected an exciting President who, ahaha, claims Pres. Aquino's initiatives as his achievements. I tell you, you have to have a sense of humor. It's the only way to survive.
Wow. VP Duterte called Senator Hontiveros a liar? For objecting to confidential funds for offices that have no security mandate? So when she is President, it will be illegal to criticize her? Yeow! A president, she is ill-suited to be. She doesn't understand democracy.
An actor will file a bill to change the Philippines to federalism. 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️The Constitution is not the problem. The problem is the people running it. Corrupt federalism is not the answer.
The pink volunteer effort was an event, like EDSA, but not like EDSA. It was a loud clarion call for honesty and good governance. It did not oust a dictator, but it said clearly, "We are here, we are many, and we demand honesty and good governance." Will unity oppose that?
I will say it again and again and again. As long as Mocha Uson is employed by Govt then it is hard to see Govt as earnest, fair, honest, or trustworthy. Govt calls for unity are calls for obedience, not respect for differences.
What do financial status or employment have to do with a citizen's right to travel? The destination country should worry about that. It's their burden. The Philippines should treat their citizens with respect, not as children. "Got a passport and ticket? Enjoy your trip!"
This is the strangest landslide election in the history of the planet. Totally joyless and trust-less. Totally insecure as trolls are deployed to pretend there is joy. There is no joy. There is just the promise of directionless unity, nonsense, greed, and self-justification.
Remember the Mamasapano hearings? Everybody was there. Aquino. Purisima, Roxas, generals galore. They were not afraid of the truth. But the Yang hearings. Brother. Everybody's hiding out, getting sick, ducking for cover. Because the truth is scary.
My indelible image of VP Robredo is her standing firm in the pouring rain, saluting to honor the nation. My indelible image of First Lady Marcos is her sticking out her tongue at Filipinos, her first act of service.
Why VP Robredo is brilliant. She leads with science, not politics. She speaks with candor and respect, not excuse and abuse. She plans ahead for success rather than justifying past failures. She raises Filipinos up rather than cursing, tagging, and bringing them down.
So Recto saw 90 billion sitting there and grabbed it because Philhealth couldn't use it? All the sick and suffering souls here and they couldn't figure out how to help those who paid faithfully into the fund? Incompetence has no limits in the Philippines. Greed. Deceit. Abuse.
The Philippines is that Asian country where murder is incited by the President, conducted by the cops, and ignored by the people. On Sunday they all go to mass.
Aquino developed BPOs which fostered English and professionalism. Duterte developed Pogos which fostered Chinese and money laundering. Trolls can yap about Yolanda all they want. They're idiots.
Two different approaches:
1) Duterte: sends intruders around to ask if we are healthy.
2) Robredo: sends a team around to offer to test us if we live in a vulnerable community.
Authority, science.
Yes, I can imagine a Roxas presidency. There'd be no pogos and more bpos. The virus would be contained. I could go out and get a drink. There'd be thousands fewer PNP killings. The US would have bases; China would not be staging off the coast to build one. Bong Go would be gone.
So SolGen Calida, the scourge of Philippine civility and justice, is going after Robredo on a technical matter, as he went after Trillanes because government lost his paperwork. And Sereno. Is this unity, Marcos style? Satan has better manners.
President Aquino was welcomed by US President Obama in Washington DC in 2012 and President Obama visited the Philippines in 2015. Pope Francis also visited the Philippines in 2015. I hope Filipinos elect a President who will be welcomed by leaders anywhere in the world. Anywhere.
I'm struggling to grasp the Marcos phenomenon. People are uninformed, delusional, needy, rebellious, or crooked? From an honest man's perspective there is nothing there. No achievement. No fresh ideas. No truth. How do you get good deeds from an empty barrel? I'm totally stumped.
I see honesty is a lost value in the Philippines, where leaders rewrite events to avoid accountability and citizens accept it to prove they weren't stupid for voting the way they did.
President Aquino understood concepts and values and contexts. He could tell a good story, and a good lesson. He served with honor because he was representing his parents. Not for greed, power, or fame. He raised the nation to high esteem in the eyes of the world. RIP good Sir.
Oh my. Dennis Uy's Dito has a capital deficiency of 27.9 billion pesos according to an independent auditor. Capital deficiency. That's like if your credit card balance exceeds the value of your cash, savings, house, car, and jewelry combined. I think the common term is "broke."
Here's an idea. Rather than ROTC, DepEd assigns high schoolers to a two-year service requirement to tutor second and third graders on reading and math. Saturday mornings. Supported by read-at-home books and quizzes. That would defend the nation better than ROTC.
Guy gets on a bus, shoots a passenger dead, and the LTFRB thinks it's the bus company's fault They expect passengers to be lily white angels rather than human. How many passengers get transported safely by Victory Liner? That should be the metric. Not one death.
Dear
@Google
and
@YouTube
, why do you let Bong Bong Marcos backers publish so many outlandish lies? Didn't you listen to
@mariaressa
's Nobel speech? You are flooding the Philippines with lies and undermining democracy. Do better. It's evil stuff.
To me, Ninoy Aquino represents the highest courage, the highest honor, of mankind. The highest courage, the highest honor, of being Filipino. To face ruthless power, to walk down the ramp. I cannot grasp how a nation would choose to say that no longer means anything.
Once upon a time, two distinguished yellow Filipinos were denied entry into Hong Kong. DDS laughed and gloated. Then the US senate talked about banning some Duterte justice thugs from the US. DDS whined, wailed and cried ‘foul’. The moral? DDS are the stupidest people on earth.
You know a government is incompetent when its hospitals are full, there are no vaccines, 13,000 are dead from a controllable virus, no one has been fired, and spokespeople are giving happy-day talk and blaming citizens.
I suspect the VP is seething at the disrespect she's getting from people who want to know how she spent 125 million in 11 days. The arrogance of people wanting accountability like that. And she can't punch them in the face.
I see
@gmanews
is trying to reframe its trash article on President Aquino as being part of a series .. when there was no series, just a bunch of articles pasted together to LOOK like a wholesome series. Some of the articles were several years old. What a crappy response.
The biggest failure in 2016 was the amazing number of intelligent Filipinos who did not understand that good character is the most important criterion for a president. They went with telesyre emotionalism and got a really bad show.
Sara Duterte, who fled from the House un-questioned, is a stark difference from President Aquino who attended the Mamasapano and Dengvaxia hearings and answered all the tough questions put to him. When you have integrity, you need not run and hide.
House Reps are strangely quiet as the VP runs around making foolish accusations. And I didn't read of any senator sticking up for Senator Hontiveros, even though the VP insulted them by insulting her. Moral cowards.
Foreigners are let in on the strength of their foreign passport but Filipinos are not let out on the strength of their Philippine passport. Maybe trafficking is a police issue to solve rather than an Immigration issue. But police are busy securing the SONA and basketball games.
It's incredible. Trolls think VP Robredo is a political player. They can't grasp that there are Filipinos with humanistic values. They are so used to the dirty politics played by their favorites that they think everyone is like that. No. No. There are a lot of decent Filipinos.
The VP explains her tirade against Rep Castro and Sen Hontiveros by saying she has "no respect" for them. Wow, an arrogant VP who does not respect citizen choices, one representing teachers, the other a long serving senator, diligent and honest. Who the hell is S. Duterte?
What impresses me about VP Robredo is the way she takes tough issues, sorts through all the pros, cons, and impacts, and speaks with perfect sense about them. Truly, the lady is brilliant, pragmatic, compassionate, and far, far from soft.
Sorry, I'm pissed. People are suffering and grieving. The Admin has spent a full year failing every benchmark, testing, data, PPE, pay for HCW, tracing, beds, and vaccines. Every benchmark! Failed! Then they have the ridiculous nerve to say they've done well? No shame! Failures!!
Leave the big drug lords alone. Arrest the vapers. Abandon Marawi. Build a big sports penis. Import rice. Don’t import rice. I get so confused. Hire Robredo. Yell at Robredo. I’m amazed there are not more psychiatrists in the Philippines.
Gosh. Every time VP Robredo speaks on policy issues, she makes so much SENSE. Motorcycles to covid. It is so refreshing. Really. One can actually hope for progress and civility.
At SEAGames wrap-up, Senator Cayetano praises Mocha Uson and her fake news legions whilst across town rock star Bono is giving tribute to Maria Ressa and other women of integrity. Thus we see the choices before Filipinos, as to what values they choose to hold dear.
