@mbeisen @doctorBobG @kishoreneuro The fee should be set at what the service costs. No one should work for free. An editor should be paid, page proofing and editing paid for. Ideally, referees should be paid. Just get rid of the commercial journals and do it at cost in a not-for-profit.

@_j_thompson @florian_krammer Itâs just an accounting approach. They money would be the same. Easier to negotiate costs once with an institution rather than for each individual grant. A block grant to the institution helps them plan for $$$ infrastructure that benefits many researchers.
