concurrent with 00s indie sleaze was a shit ton of sexless, insufferably earnest bands that played piano onstage and had power lines and birds on their merch. that’s the thing i’m doing
i have almost zero peers who have been doing this for this long that are failing as openly and brazenly as i continue to. for this reason i am genuinely excited to self-release another record
every time i see a study affirming the (obvious) fact that musicians are at a higher risk of mental unhealth, i almost never see the conversation include what feels like an intuitive, genuinely non-radical idea: Paying Artists For Their Work
we did it. feeling so deeply proud of our performance and high on how surreal of a time the whole day was. we could not be more thankful to those who believe in us and grateful to
@jimmyeatworld
for allowing us to borrow their audience and do what we love most on such a scale.
@jimmyeatworld
(at a loss for a response that expresses a fraction of my gratitude or overwhelming excitement so i'll just say) yes, ok, see you there !
it’s out. i was onstage singing margaritaville when it happened and i am drinking a brass monkey and my phone is on 1% and the thing i have worked on for four years is out
hi -- i'm
1. working on a record
2. booking some shows
3. falling in love w leonard cohen, &
4. trying to test out my hope / belief that music-doing doesn't require being on this all the time
thank you for listening
excited about the future
being a diy solo artist is tough — i have to write all the music, book my own shows, and develop a surefire plan for framing my father so he gets arrested in time for my next press cycle
Hello! Our new record Ground Aswim is out on 10.30.20 — “Guest In Your Life” is now streaming everywhere. Thank you, love you, more to come!
Listen / watch / pre-order vinyl:
hi! proud and honored to share with you a piece i wrote for
@Talkhouse
on the 10th anniversary of
@davidbazan
's "Strange Negotiations" - a record deeply important in my own history, pulled from a discography that's influenced me more than any other.
re: being in and out of the pit of s*icidal thinking the past couple years — i am so thankful for every moment i’ve experienced where i think “i wouldn’t have wanted to miss this”
tonight, alone at a lil wine bar 4500mi from home, was one
love ya
tapping the mic for a quick sec:
we have a new record and it is done. it sounds very good. it’s being mastered this week, after which it will sound very Very good
Check out our cover of "Meant to Live" by

#VeggieTales
i visit this colossal help of an article at least once a year. never heard an aspect of my own internal world quite articulated so well, and i suspect others may feel the same. big love to ya
Hi! Beyond excited to tell you Sinai Vessel has joined the
@KeeledScales
family! Truly can't tell you how honored we are to be taken under their caring wing.
"How" is out now -- so pleased to share the full circle version with you:
i first met Ratboys when we shared a bill with them and a few screamo bands at a diner in Kentucky in 2015. since then i’ve seen them grind without ceasing. they still play the songs they played that night because they’ve always been that good. brings a tear to my eye. rats 4ever
brokenlegged is a year old today.
it's the product of the four years daniel, josh and i spent together as sinai vessel. we're proud of it, i'm proud of us. swimming in memories. thanks for caring.
also re: albini, overwhelming to think about the number of recordings he wasn't on that bear his influence -- generations of folks shooting for his sound and rendering really exciting results. emboldened ppl to trust that a band in a room was what a recording should sound like
“we just moved here from LA!” the customer says, smiling. i nod and also smile, but i cannot hear them. a condo development is being built next door and a massive bulldozer is picking up cement 10ft from the café door and smashing it repeatedly into the street. no tip
re: touring
shows still don’t feel real to me / this project has played ~600 shows and i’ve booked ~550 of them / i am tired / no one’s asking / i’m just gonna make another record instead
hope that’s alright. blessings
whether i love or hate a band i am always genuinely astounded when someone can independently draw, like, over five people out of their homes and to a show. impossible
hi y’all - “birthday” is out now
a quiet lil gift - the first victory on the new one, maybe my favorite. i hope you take it somewhere special and that it does the same for you.
thank you for waiting
enjoy :)
hi -- this record quietly turned five this month. i'm not typically one to commemorate, but as life has been strange and uncomfortable as of late, it's affirming to think back on the purity of this record and all it began for us. it's special to a lot of folks, and dear to me.
u ever wonder if your heroes ever also considered quitting music because posting pictures of yourself to trick the algorithm into relaying information is exhausting and has nothing at all to do with making music ? ha ha ha ha ha ha ha
Today we're thrilled to finally announce I SING, out July 26 on
@KeeledScales
. "Best Witness" is out now with a music video by Trent Wayne. Watch / listen / preorder:
Thank you all so, so much -- enjoy!
hi all — big news! extremely excited to announce we’ll be joining
@pinegroveband
for a run through the southeast in august!
pulling out all kinds of stops for this one — sure to be magic every night. hope to share one with ya💜
the older i get the more i realize how unusual it is to be a independent music fan
to all of you who make personal lists or buy records or tell your friends / the internet about things you love, thank you. without the world of you we’d be releasing art into a void
really really really overwhelmed by the amount of vocal support we've received from friends and loved ones today, there is nothing to be besides grateful. thank you, i love you, thank you
thrilled to finally announce: tour!
✨ dc / philly / brooklyn / boston / catskill ✨
our first east coaster since 2019 !
thrilled to bring ground aswim songs (and some new ones) up your way with a full band 🐎🐎🐎
philadelphians are consistently making some of the most wildly incredible music today and they are making it all in the same identical depressing basement
you won't see it on many lists, but:
we put out a record this year, and
i'd wager it's pretty okay, or at least
accomplished what we wanted, so:
listen to it if you'd like, thank you
elated to finally announce: a tour !
full band sinai vessel coming to you again
on these dates in these places
see you soon xoxo

existing as a band with a whole world of unreleased material when the public can only hear a thing you wrote five years prior is like being restricted to only wearing outfits from your senior year of high school
if ever you feel down about playing music i can’t recommend playing in a band that isn’t yours enough. it’s saved & changed my relationship to music completely
on tues night, for the first time in my life, i told a group of audience members talking over my set & visibly annoying the remainder of the crowd to shut the fuck up. they later apologized and we had a productive conversation. it's possible
thank you
@en_cohen
@pitchfork
for the deeply thoughtful review!
grateful for one last big opportunity to celebrate this thing with you all. if ya care about this project in any way, this is yours too. thank you!
hi @ DIY-er friends -- i've learned a lot about vinyl manufacturing + mailorder + general cost/benefit analysis over the course of releasing this record myself. i'd love to freely offer whatever insight i have -- if anyone has questions, DM me! it's not as hard as u might think!
