Just 6 days ago he sent this.
Now, 6 days later, the way he's used his platform, expressed his argument and rallied support - without being anything less than classy - has changed govt policy.
More than that, it's meant 1000s won't be going hungry this summer.
Incredible.

@Conservatives
@KFC_UKI
Party line: "We're working around the clock to get a deal with the EU"
Actual: "We're dicking around in Photoshop, sticking Jeremy Corbyn's face on a chicken"
Ok, ok, I see what’s happening here
Your face is on our cover and it’s strange
You don’t even never how you feel
It’s adorable!
Well it’s nice to see
@TheRock
there for a change!
I am trying to launch a film magazine by and for under 15-year olds. Who will get rewarded for writing about film, and hopefully learn from an early age that their words have value, and never work for exposure.
Can you help me? Thank you.
@The_Katbot
I'm a self-funded independent film magazine that's never broken even, and where I struggle to make ends meet.
My rates are higher than yours. And you're IGN.
It's a very hard feed to follow, but I do recommend following
@FacesOfCOVID
. It puts faces to numbers, and is a sombre counterbalance to some of the debates that happen on Twitter/Facebook et al.
As long as I live, I'll never understand why my kids would rather watch other people playing games on YouTube as opposed to playing the same game - THAT I BOUGHT FOR THEM - themselves.
In other news, I think I'm old.
BEST ENTERTAINMENT AND CULTURE PODCAST: Fending off strong competition from some of the biggest names in publishing,

Adding my voice to the
#BSHLOUT
#bcfc
campaign. I remember seeing Coventry City fans holding up banners saying 'this could be your club next'.
It's true. Any football club is one bad owner away from this.
#bcfc
is just the latest proof.
@TheRock
And what can I say except you’re welcome!
For the fonts, the pics, the line
Hey, it’s okay, it’s okay
You’re welcome!
It’ll cost you just five ninety-nine!

Thanks
@TheRock
! You're on the front of the UK's new independent film magazine!
To the people who are using their privileged position of seeing films like The Last Jedi early, in order to gloat and/or plant spoilers: a very, very hard stare.
@IanDunt
The extraordinary effect of this is that Sajid Javid reveals in the midst of this that he was non-dom for six years, and changed this arrangement only by his personal choice, and it barely gets mentioned.
@TheRock
Open your eyes, let’s begin
Yes, it’s Film Stories, breathe it in!
I know it’s a lot, the pic, Steve’s facial hair,
But Fighting With My Family really is on there!
Not a fun feature to write, this.
How UK cinema staff are on the end of growing levels of verbal abuse. The reason? They're stopping people under 15 from seeing 15 certificate films.
Those giving out the abuse? Primarily the parents of said under 15s.
Remember: Piers is trying to get attention. Don't use his full name (he searches himself). Don't @ him. Just let him shout into emptiness. Pretend he's in a reality TV show on a deserted island, where they forgot to turn the cameras on.
I'm still the guy who thinks the MCU getting Fantastic Four/X-Men wasn't worth the thousands of job losses and hundreds of films in development being cancelled.
To the absolute shitheads who are pirating copies of Film Stories Junior magazine: stop and think for a minute.
I've sunk my savings into this magazine, trying to pay under 15s for writing about film work, showing them that their brains and words have real value.
I’ve got some news. Not had news for a while!
I’m now Film, Games & TV Editor for
@whynowworld
.
And I started this very day! Very pleased to have been asked, and very happy to join the team.
You've got to hand it to them. The makers of No Time To Die saw the evidence, projected where it was going, and made a quick, decisive decision based on it. They're two weeks and change ahead of Trump for a start.
Am still a little shellshocked by this. I am just one person in a room with a battered old laptop and the only mic I could afford at Amazon. To be in a list with such huge publishers and excellent podcasts is humbling, really.
I've just watched House Of Gucci. Nothing could cement the reputation of the Golden Globes more than if they nominated Jared Leto for his work in the film.
In the current issue of Film Stories is a huge feature - that took ages to research - on all the 2000AD movies that never were.
Someone stood in WHSmiths, took photos of the entire feature, put the magazine back, and posted the whole article to a Facebook group.
Morning!
Just imagine what Denis Villeneuve could do with an Alien film. Or Olivia Wilde. Or Kathryn Bigelow. Or Guillermo del Toro. Or Jeremy Saulnier. Or someone other than Ridley Scott.
It looks like Ridley Scott's latest plan for the Alien franchise is to pretty much leave alone Prometheus and Alien: Covenant when making the next film
In the end: 28 writers, all paid for their work. Half female, half male. By my calculation. six had never been paid for writing before.
Issue one now at the printers. Issue two now underway.
Meet Britain's new film magazine.
Please tell me: why does one single human being need one thousand million dollars?
One thousand million.
This is not an achievement to be celebrated. This is anti-human in a world where millions of people can't afford a bloody meal.
One year ago today, Film Stories magazine was officially funded on Kickstarter. Within two weeks, issue one was in people's hands. I'm now working on issue 11. It's been quite a year. With your support, over 50 writers have had their first paid writing work. Thank you.
Venom is about to outgross Mission: Impossible - Fallout worldwide, if you're still wondering why everyone is making so many superhero and comic book movies.
A mystery to me too, Piers. But then I never sent the email offering me the interview in the first place, didn't '@' you, nor did I indulge in name calling.
Happy Friday xxx
The Brexit Party's official newspaper has tried to spoof Avengers: Endgame.
That film where the heroes are the Avengers in the foreground, and the threat is shadowy and in the background.
For the first time ever, we've been able to send young reporters to a film junket! Two young reporters right now are interviewing a film director for Film Stories Jr issue 3.
Huge thanks to
@ParamountUK
for allowing us to offer this opportunity.
Thrilled to lead on a massive interview with
@KermodeMovie
, where he takes us through the story of Secrets Of Cinema, Wittertainment, his thoughts on film criticism, and Geostorm...
Here we go, then. Film Stories issue two is where we go monthly, and the new issue is now available to pre-order. PLUS! Here's the front cover!
Find out more about what's in the issue and order your copy here (remember, it's not in shops!):
Some news! For the last few weeks, I’ve been knee-deep in the acquisition of
@RockSound
. And it’s happened! Thrilled to welcome the brand and its staff to their new home!
Incredibly, Film Stories magazine is two years old today.
In that time I've published 21 issues (plus 5 of Junior). Over 150 writers have had their first paid print writing work. 19 UK filmmakers/films have had front covers (plus one dog).
I'm really, really sad to say that, eleven and a half years after I founded the site, I've handed to Den Of Geek UK my resignation as Editor In Chief.
It's now in writing, and I'll be leaving the site in late October.
[1/3]
Proud to reveal the front cover of my next issue. Here's
@filmstoriespod
magazine issue 23, leading with a big exclusive chat with
@eddieizzard
and the Six Minutes To Midnight team.
Full details and mail order a copy here (our last issue sold out!).
Think I can talk about this now. I'm really proud that in the midst of what was an incredibly taxing 2018, I wrote another book. It comes out in August, and is up for preorder now. Artwork may change!
Project Make 2019 Better Than 2018 has begun...
Oooh, I've got pitches for Guardian film!
* The Naked Gun: why it's a terrible comedy and how everyone who loves it is awful
* RoboCop: you're all wrong
* Jaws: the sequels are better
* The Odd Couple: just not funny
* Lord Of The Rings: well, it's shite innit?
Inv enc.
Film studios! I have some amazing new writers who want to review films, but are shut out because of the cost of getting to London.
Regional press screenings would be appreciated - let's take the opportunity to review new releases outside of London? Happy to help.
Breaking new development for Star Wars fans:
You're allowed to like Solo without hating The Last Jedi. You're allowed to like The Last Jedi without hating Solo.
Deal with this fresh revelation carefully. The internet has exploded over less.
As long as I have breath in my body, I'm going to try and put good into the world. Hate can't win. I'm far, far, far from perfect, but damned if I'm not going to try and be positive.
Here's a bit of a milestone for me. Two years ago today, at a very dark point in my life, I recorded the very first Film Stories podcast. Was utterly terrified, and a mile out of my comfort zone. It's been a bit of a two years since...
I can't tell you how many times I've come close to throwing in the towel on stuff this year. People slag off social media, but it's been a real source of fuel for me in 2020. I do hugely appreciate it. Best to you all.
Twice now the people behind the James Bond movie have foreseen nationwide lockdowns coming.
I think I'm going to pay more attention to the next No Time To Die release date than Boris Johnson. One is a faster indicator than the other.
Tomorrow's increasingly looking like a big day for Birmingham City
#bcfc
. Lots of rumours that the club is about to fail financial fair play. That'll be fun.
Film Stories is, remarkably, five years old.
Since it launched back in 2018:
56 print magazines so far
Around 20 live events
322 podcast episodes
1 Blu-ray (two more this year at least)
The Big Secret Project
Thank you so much for everyone who's supported Film Stories. x
Politics has clearly gone to hell. I'm damned if it's dragging me down with it. I'm doubling down now. Am going to try and offer more opportunities to as many people as possible next year. Feels like something vaguely useful I can do.

Was about to write "I've done it", but that's utterly wrong.
We've done it.
The near-40 people who have joined me in doing this. I've just sent a brand new film magazine off to be printed.
To everyone who has joined in, or supported it: thank you. A million thank yous.
What people don't always see with
@KermodeMovie
is how far out of his way he goes to hold the ladder for others. Encouraging filmmakers, shining lights as brightly as he can on films.
I hope to pass some of that kindness on, but his core ethos is a huge inspiration on my work.
I've never actually done this since I started the magazines. But crikey, when you put it like this, that's quite a lot. Nearly two years of magazine making in one photo.
Thank you so much to all of you who have supported it.
To any filmmaker who's ever put themselves on the line by pursuing independent movies without the backing of a big, rich studio: meet my self-published magazine equivalent!
Issue 5 on sale now:
Genuinely thought a week ago that Film Stories Junior was going to miss its target. But I reasoned it wasn't failing that would have scared me, it would have been not trying in the first place.
And then you all came through for me. Again.
I can't thank you enough.
Thank you.
