Manu says that a student of Vedas could learn & practise dharma, artha and kāma, which is known to women & Śūdras (MS 2.223-224). He should take knowledge from even a Śūdra & receive vidyā for mokṣa even from a Cāṇḍāla (2.238). In fact vidyā can be taken from all (2.240).

This is what ‘vedādhyayana’ means. The learning of Vedas with the help of books, pre-recorded audio, etc., is not vedādhyayana. ‘गुरुमुखोच्चारणपूर्वकोच्चारणम्’

Brahmacarya and Vānaprastha Āśramas for Śūdras Śeṣakṛṣṇa cites Mahābhārata to state that Śūdras can also enter Brahmacarya and Vānaprastha Āśramas with the permission of the king. When in Brahmacarya, Śūdras shouldn't perform bhaikṣacaryā. [Śūdrācāraśiromaṇi]
