@ProfOfWallSt @StMartinsPress Thanks @ProfOfWallSt! It's a good question. Certainly, when it comes to spousal disagreements over spending, the more spendthrift spouse tends to win (eventually). Spendthrift spouses might actually be good for couples' investments -- they're willing to pay for good advice!

There are several plausible explanations here. For now, I will just highlight that state TW-ST averages correlate significantly with several different measures of religiosity at the state level, with more religious states having a smaller proportion of spendthrifts. [2/2]
