Words and interviews on Asian Cinema: @filmedinether Letterboxd: https://t.co/IZEm6EgxGZ (中/ENG)

The problem with Spielberg's WEST SIDE STORY is that beautiful direction and technical mastery will never be enough if your two leads cannot sell your story and have no chemistry. Elgort was woefully miscast and he had the charm of a wooden stump.
a lot of us have been revisiting Spielberg's WEST SIDE STORY, and I've still never seen a movie strike a better balance between dreamy old-hollywood visuals and a more contemporary kind of heightened realism, often within a single shot. it's the platonic ideal of a modern musical

Dev Patel politely asking ppl to watch more Asian cinema and pointing out that John Wick takes from Asian cinema and ESPECIALLY Korean action cinema (THE MAN FROM NOWHERE, THE VILLAINESS) and those are his real influences (I'm sure THE RAID films too)
Dev Patel on 'Monkey Man' being called the South-Asian 'John Wick':. "I'm a huge fan of the franchise but this film is born from my love of so much action cinema expanding from Bruce Lee to Sammo Hung to Jet Lee to Jackie Chan to the Korean cinema and also Bollywood [. ]".

@finapplee @columbvs You are right because 90% of the posters here are done by one company, called Propaganda Alternative Graphics. They handle the artwork for majority of the foreign language and arthouse releases in their country. Look them up.

@_RyanLevitt_ also Mike Faist was criminally good as Riff and made Elgort look much worse in comparison.

Hello, this is a piece that is very dear to my heart. Anyone who knows me well knows how much IU means to me. I don't know if I could ever do justice to Lee Ji-Eun's career, but I have tried with as much love and sincerity here.
The trajectory of Lee Ji-Eun's acting career tells a larger story about the woman behind #IU and her ability to negotiate her celebrity. In partnership with @KOFFIAFilmFest, we chart her journey from DREAM HIGH to her acclaimed performance in BROKER.

@lingerie_addict @ModernGurlzz makes me think about how everyone kicked up such a big fuss over Greta Gerwig in that blue and white Margiela dress, making it out like she had to style it the way Galliano presented it with the makeup and theatrics.

the way Miyazaki's reaction to getting an honorary Palme D'Or has exceeded any expectation of what I imagined it to be. (I thought he would be nonchalant, but he has complete indifference/lack of understanding as to the weight of the award, which is hilarious).
Hayao Miyazaki and Toshio Suzuki sent a video message in their absence and sympathies to Goro for having to represent them at Cannes: “I feel sorry for him, good luck.”

Japanese television, anime and cinema actually has had the most diverse and thoughtful representation of sexuality including asexuality as far as I'm concerned. #TsukuTabe

I really dislike this take that fans don't like how this character because he isn't "traditionally masculine" (i.e only like that form of masculinity). We don't like him because the acting is so lacking that it cannot make us handwave the weaknesses in the character's writing.
I keep saying this but the fact that Colin isn’t more overtly rugged and take charge, that he’s softer and kinder and essentially has the same friends to desperately wanting more journey that Pen has, is the actual reason he gives people the “ick”.

The magnificent THE HANDMAIDEN: Korean, Japanese and Jacobean era architecture all in one. And such houses do exist! The Meiji era architect Josiah Conder was responsible for Rokkaen, the mansion in The Handmaiden located in Kuwana, Mie and the Iwasaki Mansion I visited in Tokyo.

Looking at acclaimed stuff like TRIANGLE OF SADNESS, THE WHITE LOTUS, THE MENU which all only offer really shallow class commentary, i think #BEEFNetflix is finally the one "eat the rich narrative" that actually offers something different, deeper, funnier and more caustic.

If you need to watch something on @netflix about 2 attractive people who enter a marriage without knowing anything each other, don't watch #Rebecca, watch #PrivateLives instead where one is a grifter and one is a corporate spy and they don't know this about each other!

Maybe for audiences in the West but I've added this to my Netflix watchlist since it was announced, read the entire Netflix press release on their website and had the release date pencilled into my journal. Sorry to be controversial but this really isn't entirely on them.
Hirokazu Kore-eda’s new TV series ‘ASURA’ has randomly been released on Netflix without any promotion. The series follows 4 sisters who ar shocked to discover their elderly father's affair. See which other TV show just got added to Netflix:

Joshua & Mingyu from #SEVENTEEN 's latest photoshoot from @SPUR_magazine was inspired by IN THE MOOD FOR LOVE. They released a mini film that was so arresting, so naturally, I had to do comparison shots.

Proud of her repping a South Korean designer. Lee Ji Eun is the face of Gucci in South Korea and I'm sure they were ready to dress her for the red carpet. Her partnership with her stylist (who's worked with her for more than a decade) is always purposeful.

@lunardeiity Wong Kar-Wai directed this shoot he didn't photograph it. Anyone who knows Wong Kar-Wai's work knows that his stills and this type of photography he has is done by Wing Shya. You can find some of the original images here in this interview with Wing Shya:

I think along with the 2023 film I AM WHAT I AM (2022) starring Toko Miura this is like one of the only proper depictions of asexuality and also how you can be both asexual and identify as a lesbian. #TsukuTabe

To put into perspective: this is an ALL-TIME record, not just for animated films. Some cinemas have screenings from 7am, showing it at least 40 times a day. Last year's Weathering With You and Frozen 2 did 15.2 mill and 18.2 mill which were both records.
