(1/3) During Hurricane Helene, our community saw issues with lithium-ion batteries. Water and ion batteries do not mix. If damaged, lithium-ion batteries can create a chemical chain reaction that results in fire or explosion.

Update 9:20 a.m. Oct. 7: An evacuation order is in place for Levels A and B, manufactured communities or a mobile or boat home. Those living in level C should be prepared to evacuate if the storm intensifies.

Representatives from the Florida Department of Financial Services Criminal Investigation Division were in the Emergency Operations Center today to meet with Sarasota County operations regarding unlicensed contractor activity at homes impacted along the barrier islands. C
FEMA disaster assistance may provide funds to homeowners and renters in Sarasota County for serious needs, basic home repair, rental of temporary housing and other uninsured expenses resulting from Hurricane Helene. FEMA assistance is not a replacement for insurance.
Detective Erika Huerta with the Department of Financial Services warns of potential unlicensed contractor activity in Sarasota County. Citizens are advised not to sign any contracts before consulting with their insurance company.

The boil water notice is canceled for all of Siesta Key, Casey Key and Sanderling, excluding the Fisherman's Haven area. Public Utilities has completed the required bacteriological testing, and results show no presence of harmful bacteria and water is safe for human consumption.
