I haven’t x-eeted for a while and that’s probably because I’m in Mauritius where the prices of wine are insane. I’ll never complain about domestic prices ever again. 🇲🇺

@Winemag @jamiegoode I’m finding the 750ml standard woefully inadequate on a lot of wines I’ve had recently! And we need to talk about Magnums. Not enough producers bottle in this size.

@ChristianEedes @WOSA_ZA Makes co-operation & co-ordination to represent a united front for SA wine impossible - everyone is looking after their own little patch. Individual brands are now stronger than Brand SA, latter needs to be of over-arching strength in an increasingly competitive global market.

Took a UK based guest there for a tasting a few weeks back & Rubicon has a cult like status in certain sectors of that market. Tight, focussed product line aligned with a valued brand. What's not to love?

@Winemag Stopped buying & reading it ages ago. A paid for marketing tool that lost its independence & credibility. Doubt it will recover unless its a complete revamp & even then its way behind the curve from an online/digital media pov. Pretty cover colours just ain't going to cut it.

@Wine_Cuentista Like any industry wine needs it’s disruptors. It’s risk & reward with real money & people’s lives. Throw in the fact that it’s a luxury product & there are a range of extraneous factors other than outright quality that make a wine a ‘success’ it’s like playing Russian roulette!

Cinsault tasting at @nattevalleij yesterday with some American importers got me thinking...when does a cultivar become mainstream & then lose all the stardust that came with it being a rebel in the first place? Like a new indie band that sells out to sign a big corp record deal..
