I spoke about this on CBC and radio today basically saying the same thing: What other choice did the government have when police services refused to do their job? There is legal theory and there's practicality-it was a very specific circumstance. Judge acknowledged this.
The Emergencies Act was unnecessary and the chaotic and unlawful Convoy protests in Ottawa could have been ended using other laws. I said that in Feb 2022 and it remains my view. But to be clear, this judgment is not the vindication that Convoy supporters believe it is.

For the love of god, the tax is on the GAIN (new money, profits, return on investment). Not on the Initial capital (investment) or your income/money that you've already paid tax on and used to buy. And even then, only 50% of it is included to be taxed. The rate is NOT 50%.
This is really effective political messaging. Of course it's misleading -- the investment banker Trudeau cites only pays tax on 50% of his capital gains income because he *already* paid tax on 100% of his income -- but ya, effective political messaging.
