This is an affront to our deepest and most important democratic values: the rights to freedom of expression and freedom of asswmbly. A ticket for using a megaphone for a couple of hours on a public street to protest against a horrific war? Unacceptable @_MarkSutcliffe.

I love Ottawa, but I’m disappointed in my city today. Using a small megaphone to advocate for Palestinian human rights gets a $490 fine?. This has to stop. #CeasefireNOW

The Emergencies Act was unnecessary and the chaotic and unlawful Convoy protests in Ottawa could have been ended using other laws. I said that in Feb 2022 and it remains my view. But to be clear, this judgment is not the vindication that Convoy supporters believe it is.

@KevinWaugh_CPC Shame on you for encouraging this. My neighbourhood is under siege with residents facing threats and harassment by these protesters, not to mention constant horns at 105-120db. Businesses are closed, elderly and others feel unsafe walking on the street etc Shame on you sir.

This is a sad story. How many people, burnt out from COVID restrictions, were vulnerable to to the ‘Freedom Convoy’ grift? Big money and organizers must be held accountable.

At what point does this sort of horrific and disgusting behaviour get the attention of our top public safety officials @_DougDowney @marcomendicino. This is a threat to democracy and its pervasive. We need new and better laws.

Two years ago today, the lawyers in our firm worked around the clock to prepare a motion for an injunction against the truck horns tormenting our Ottawa neighbours. We hoped this would persuade the Convoy folks it was time to go home. Unfortunately, didn’t work out that way….

I'm angry about those who put forward Yaroslav Hunka as a good invitee for Zelensky's visit. Mr Hunka and his family can rationalize his past all they want, but the fact is he did serve in the SS. He should not have embarrassed Canada, the country that gave him so much.

More bluster and bs from Pat King. We did offer consent to lifting freeze on accounts in which he collected e-transfers. Some $ would go to escrow and he could do what he wants w/balance. He and his lawyer couldn’t do math on cut off date (and his big spending). So no deal. /1.

The fact that authorities and current laws seem to be unable to do anything to investigate and stop these kind of hateful expressions is a serious problem. I would like to see Cdn gov't reinstate s. 13 of the Canadian Human Rights Act so individuals can go after online hate.

Ezra Levant has certainly defamed me, but that’s his grift: he slanders people, gets sued, and then gets his followers to donate to “defend” his free speech. That’s the revenue model - being a lawsuit rodeo clown. Losing case after case is just a business expense for him.

Ontario’s human rights system is collapsing. Our firm routinely waits 1-2 years for simple procedural decisions by HRTO. Submissions and letters get lost by the Registry. And hearing on the merits? 5 yrs minimum to schedule. Who gets a KC for driving HRTO into the ground?.

So proud of these intrepid Canadian "reporters" travelling to Davos to get the big story. Seriously, Greta Thunberg owns these guys with her laughs. Recognizing the farce and humour at the heart of Rebel and simply laughing is probably the best reaction.

A day of unimaginable relief for an innocent man, and no doubt elation for his superb defence counsel @Nader_Hasan_law. But for those braying for more stringent bail, the details of the Zameer case, and the now public bail jmt, should give them cause for reflection and shame.

Capital Pride’s statement was thoughtful and measured and rooted in anti-oppression. Mayor Sutcliffe, your choice to only acknowledge the horrific attack by Hamas, while steadfastly ignoring the subsequent atrocities and war crimes by Israel, is an abdication of moral leadership.

Ottawa is a kind and welcoming city where everyone should feel included. I'm disappointed that despite conversations with the Jewish community, the board of Capital Pride has chosen to stand behind its original statement that caused significant hurt and distress for many members.

I explained Quebec's #Bill21 to my 12-yr-old today, and that it would be illegal for teachers to wear a hijab. He stared, confused. "What?" he asked. I explained it again. "In Canada? Seriously?" "Yes." Quiet for a moment, he shook his head. "Ridiculous. When's the protest?".
