This is best speech in Parliament in years. Take a moment and listen. Truth, anger, resolve and hope. Leah Gazan MP articulates all of my fears and concerns in one powerful speech. Civics lesson. /1.
It's time to tell some hard truths about what is happening to our country and to our democracy. We can't afford to be complacent any longer. My speech from this morning's debate on the Emergencies Act. #cdnpoli

Canada has banned the use or manufacture of land mines because the devices are indiscriminate in who they maim or kill. In keeping with this position, Canada should condemn the use of hidden explosive devices in Lebanon as clear violations of the laws of war.
International humanitarian law prohibits the use of booby traps – objects that civilians are likely to be attracted to or are associated with normal civilian daily use – precisely to avoid putting civilians at grave risk.

I have been a board member of the BCCLA for over 10 years and, although I am acutely aware of the trauma experienced by Ottawa residents, I fully agree that the Emergencies Act is a dangerous tool that was not required.
BCCLA calls on Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to revoke the use of the Emergencies Act. We additionally call on Members of Parliament to vote against the declaration when Parliament considers it within seven sitting days after its issuance. 1/12.

If Poilievre thinks he can decimate the CBC bc he gets a plurality of the vote in one election (35% etc), he's got another thing coming. Canadians will come out in massive numbers to defend our foremost cultural institution. With local media dying, CBC is needed more than ever.
It warms my heart to think of the families that will move into a home they can afford, at the former headquarters of the CBC.

At #POEC today, we had a break so @marcomendicino could vote virtually in a Commons vote. I appreciate how the Minister was able to both testify and carry out his parliamentary work at the same time. Too bad ONT Premier Ford and Minister Jones weren't able to do the same.

My client was measuring nearly 100 decibels inside her own apartment at around 10pm. So much for the Freedom Convoy Defendant promises that the truckers had agreed to stop the horns at 8pm. Basically, imagine a lawn mower running in your living room for hours on end. Torture.
The scene in downtown Ottawa just before 11 p.m. Protesters have said post 8 p.m. they won’t honk. That’s not the case anywhere I walked between 10 p.m. and 11 p.m. tonight #convoy #ottawa #cdnpoli

This could be a good witness we could compel for trial to prove trucks were violating the injunction. Fortunately parliamentary privilege doesn’t extend to staff.
New CPC communications director Sarah Fischer said it was “nice to hear” truck horns in downtown Ottawa after court injunction against them came into force. From one of numerous live videos she recorded during the Freedom Convoy.

Our firm and clients also received a torrent of hate mail and calls and, yes, threats for representing Ottawa residents against Convoy horns.
One of the judges who presided over the court hearings of Freedom Convoy organizers is speaking out after receiving threats considered serious enough to require police intervention, according to information obtained by Radio-Canada and CBC.

Its repulsive that any Canadian politician would choose to use the horrible events in Israel & Palestine as an opportunity for domestic politics. Even worse, Premier Ford attacks an MPP who points to war crimes and calls for peace by defaming her and spreading misinformation.

The attack on Ottawa continues. The Convoy protesters are harming families, businesses and workers. They too deserve compensation. We are looking at that now. Stay tuned.

In the Convoy class action, our firm successfully resisted a motion by some organizers to access escrow funds to pay legal fees. We argued they are trustees at best and money isn’t theirs, and funds should be preserved to compensate people of Ottawa.
An Ontario Superior Court judge has rejected a request from Freedom Convoy organizers B.J. Dichter and Chris Garrah to release $200,000 of donated funds held in escrow to pay for their legal defence of the civil suit filed on behalf of Ottawa residents.
