Medical psychiatrist here. Very common. I know because I'm the one they call. Yes there is an overlay of psychiatric symptoms because of the distress that is caused from whatever the ailment is. But it is rarely a psych primary disorder.

Thank you, this is so critical. I just told a patient with moderate but rapidly progressing dementia who doesn't understand what's wrong, but sir you know you have Alzheimer's right. Complete shock. No one had ever said that to him. He agreed to take meds for sleep/anxiety.
