For your reading. These times ought to push us to reflect on who we want to be when we are in community with others.
@sarahsilvanm So this week I did what I do best: I wrote about what we can do in this moment. Here’s my new column. I hope you’ll give it thoughtful consideration. /4

This is reprehensible. Our values and our differing faith traditions call on us equally, to respond when our people’s backs are against the wall and when they suffer corrupt and harsh governments.
Migrants in Ciudad Juárez who were waiting for their 1 pm CBP1 parole appointments learned 20 minutes ago that the app has shut down & those appointments are no longer valid.

Yay! We’re married!
BREAKING NEWS: Sarah and I eloped on Thursday! We found a beautiful spot in an arroyo at the base of the Organ Mountains surrounded by some of Sarah’s favorite colors — the green and orange of moss on granite, the green of cactus and yucca, the browns and grays of winter. /1

The same city council that wants to limit IPRA? I see.
The @NewMexicoDOJ has issued its long-awaited determination that the Las Cruces City Council and mayor violated the NM Open Meetings Act several times earlier this year by excluding the public from every step of its process to hire a new city manager. /1

Deregulation invites chaos.
As a mortgage banker, I’ve seen firsthand how crucial regulation is to maintaining a fair and stable financial system. The CFPB was created to address the reckless practices that led to the 2008 crash, protecting consumers and ensuring accountability in the industry. Deregulation doesn’t create stability—it invites chaos. I welcome oversight because it builds trust, safeguards borrowers, and prevents the kind of predatory practices that devastated families and the economy in 2008. Removing the CFPB isn’t just a step backward; it’s an open door to repeating the mistakes of the past.

This whole thread exactly.
This debate about the role of non-profit interest groups and Dems is missing the point. It’s a symptom of a much larger problem—hollowed out politics. The Dem side political practice (often driven by donor advisors/firms) abdicates actual politics in favor of the *appearance* of it. Constant polling, obsessive RCTs on field tactics, treating voters as consumers. Media is very important, but can’t cover for weak organization and alienated bases. Alternative? 🧵
