So, I’ve received this video from a few people asking for my take. It’s actually a perfect encapsulation of everything wrong with the way we approach this, why she lost Michigan, and why we need to immediately course correct 🧵1/
Hillary Clinton on the Israelis and the Palestinians today on The View.
Covers everything from Hamas to humanitarian pauses to Yasser Arafat to Anwar Sadat.
At what point are we gonna call this for the insanity it is? These are college students. Why is everyone from the president on down talking about it? Are people really that desperate to not deal with the reality of finding mass graves full of doctors, nurses, and children?
For those who don’t know, IDF soldiers killed Shireen, an incredible journalist I grew up watching, in the West Bank 2 years ago. They then said it was a bunch of “Palestinian militias” who did it. It took a monumental amount of advocacy to get an investigation which found…1/
It’s Shireen’s birthday today. This was her last birthday celebration-she was killed a month later. The pain of losing her never gets easier. Happy birthday my angel ❤️🩹🕊️
JNF decided to send me, a Palestinian legislator, this letter thanking me for my commitment to the state of Israel and are planting a tree for Israel in my honor. JNF uses trees to destroy evidence of historic Palestinian villages. I saw it with my own eyes 🧵1/

It’s easy to fix something when you have a perfect enemy and a singular problem. But if that were true, we’d be in a very different place. She never once mentions the blockade on Gaza, the settler violence and occupation in the West Bank, the raids on Al Aqsa…2/
The US is the only veto. Can we please drop the charade now? The US has never been an honest broker on this issue. If anyone was serious about the two state solution, there would have been a serious effort toward it. Not whatever this is.
BREAKING: The U.S. vetoed a security council resolution admitting Palestine as a full member state of the UN. 12 members states voted in favor. 2 member states (UK & Switzerland) abstained
or any of the numerous escalations by the increasingly extremist Israeli government. By continuing to dismiss and ignore these very real grievances, and the Palestinians as a whole, Clinton and every other leader is missing a real opportunity to chart a path toward peace. 3/
I kept seeing people say that the
@HolocaustMuseum
uses the word intifada in its header for the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising page in Arabic. I actually didn’t believe it but finally had a chance to look it up myself. It’s true. The highlighted word is intifada. Again, it’s just Arabic.
No matter how much we tried to explain that the Arab community (which included Libyans, Syrians, Egyptians, etc) literally bore the brunt of her foreign policy decisions (including the killing of loved ones and their displacement), we were told “just get over it and vote.” 5/
For me personally, I’ll never forget how she *laughed* while talking about the Arab Spring and Arab leaders as people protesting for the same values we hold dear were being killed by the same regimes we backed. She was a deciding, and derisive, voice in US approach. 6/
So what does this have to do with Michigan? Many of us raised alarm bells about Clinton’s foreign policy record as an issue for immigrant, and particularly Arab voters, who were the swing vote in Michigan. 4/
The longer this goes on, the worse our chances. We need a ceasefire and to condition military aid to the Israeli government just like we do everywhere else. If you can’t get yourself to care about foreign policy, then I beg you, please consider what it means for next year. 13/
I will never forget that moment because it dawned on me then that no one saw my community as overrepresented in the healthcare field and partners on better healthcare, for example, but as a threat. I knew even if Clinton won the primary, she would lose the general. 8/
But that callousness and lack of care (even in our pain) is pervasive. It’s very much “be grateful we talk to you” attitude. It’s why so many of us have pushed for a MENA designation on the census and a recognition of our voting block. My Arab community is real. 10/
I ask this with utmost sincerity, does the White House have a single Arabic speaking person who saw this before it went out because y’all…that’s an Arabic word. Straight up a word. Like, the American Revolution, translated in Arabic, was an intifada. Here’s more…I just wow.
And to be very clear, anyone who has known me longer than this past year knows I spent months trying to turn out the vote in 2016. I volunteered. I reached out to my community. But I never had, and will never have, an answer to “but she’s the reason my loved one was killed.” 9/
This came to head when I had an opportunity to sit with one of Clinton’s campaign directors. I tried to explain to her the importance of reaching out to Arab and Muslim voters particularly in Michigan. Her response? “Oh, on counterterrorism issues?” 7/
“this is awful but we can’t have Trump” or “idk how I can vote for someone who killed members of my community/my friend’s community.” Neither bodes well for turnout. And all for what? To justify killing civilians? I need you all to understand this is not fake news. It’s real. 12/
*But it’s not just Arabs and Muslims this time.* The coalition on this is massive, bigger than I realized. It’s a massive portion of our base. There’s a reason the rallies for Palestinians are so diverse. Right now the overwhelming majority of democratic voters are either: 11/
We can swing entire states and contributed millions of dollars to campaigns. Designating us as white prevents that impact from being seen. It’s also why I spent weeks desperately trying to get anyone who would listen to call for a ceasefire and distance themselves from this. 10/
With Trump on the ballot, we need strong, principled Democrats in Congress more than ever.
In Congress,
@LatimerforNY
will protect abortion rights, stand up to the NRA, and fight for President Biden’s agenda—just like he’s always done.
Make a plan to vote by June 25th!
If Biden spent half as much energy pressuring Bibi as he did pressuring congressional members expressing legitimate concerns then this election would be completely different.
We the undersigned Georgia legislators are deeply alarmed by reports of excessive force used by Georgia State Patrol in responding to community members protesting on the campus of Emory University this morning. 1/

At this point anyone who keeps using terms like “pro-Hamas” to describe people protesting the indiscriminate killing of civilians is racist and/or Islamophobic. Like there’s truly no excuse to keep using that language as we enter the forty third day of Israel carpet bombing Gaza.
Every time I watch a spokesperson whether from State or WH I feel like I’m living in an alternate reality. We’ve had *multiple* international organizations investigate incidents that clearly violated IHL. According to Kirby et al all those orgs are lying…1/
NSC Spokesperson John Kirby: There is no evidence that Israel deliberately struck and killed WCK aid workers in Gaza.
Kirby adds that to date, the US has found no instances where Israel has violated international humanitarian law in their war with Hamas.
that the IDF killed her. She was wearing her press vest, next to their press van. There was no reason for shooting her other than they could. When I say anyone who has been paying attention for longer than six months knows the pattern of targeting aid workers, journalists 2/
For those new here, I'm going to lay out why it's not just polls that have me nervous. In 2020, I got laughed out of a meeting for saying Georgia would turn blue, and we'd win two senate seats. I was so sure because I was canvassing in one of the reddest counties in the state. 1/
A woman tried to drown two children when she found out they’re Palestinian. The dehumanization of us is so real and pervasive that Palestinian children aren’t safe anywhere.
Emory quietly admitting that 20 of the 28 arrested were from the university, but then burying that in the worst justification I’ve ever seen is cowardly behavior. I know one of the other eight is a Morehouse *student.*
My heart, love, and prayers go out to this person. I’m so sorry we failed you. I’m so sorry you felt like this is the only way you would be heard. 1/

medical staff, children etc it’s because we’ve seen it time and time and time again. You can keep saying “but Hamas” all day long, but that will never absolve Israel. And, it has never explained Israel’s policies in the West Bank. 3/
I truly believe this moment is existential for all of us. What happened on Thursday on Emory’s campus was unacceptable. And, I firmly believe in walking the walk. What I witnessed over the past couple of days has kept me up at night and here’s why 1/
Absolutely profound thank you to

Between Gaza and bad policies on immigration and lgbtq rights, we're actively losing parts of our coalition. The current strategy will not only make us lose in November but will have down ballot ramifications at every level. Our competition isn't the GOP, it's the couch. 4/
If Hamas didn’t exist Israel would still find a reason to kill Palestinians. This isn’t a hypothetical. As I’ve shared before, I spent two weeks in the Holy Land. I had rifles pointed at my heart so many times I lost count. 4/
Asna was targeted and bullied by such an intense campaign from people purporting to be pro Israel that USC said they couldn’t keep her safe and cancelling her speech. Students tried to get the admin to reconsider so admin cancelled the school wide graduation. 1/
It’s disgusting that anyone would use Palestinian as an insult. And, it’s objectively absurd to suggest Biden has been pro Palestinian let alone call him one. US policy on the Middle East has been abysmal under every administration. It’s time to correct course.
🧵This is why it matters so much. We cannot destroy one of the few green spaces left in the city. I’ve been particularly upset with the “don’t listen to misinformation” lines. There is no misinformation and here’s a thread debunking claims I’ve recently heard:
1/
There were no clashes. I’m talking to students, faculty, and staff now. The escalation was unwarranted. There’s also various press orgs here who have video of tear gas and a student in handcuffs being tased.

My people are enduring a genocide. We’ve spent six months watching harrowing scenes out of Gaza. If you don’t want to believe it that’s your prerogative. But stop coming to us to find absolution for the pain your soul clearly feels at justifying the unjustifiable. 5/
A little over 20 hours since the first public commentators arrived and 17 hours after the start of public comments, Atlanta City Council voted overwhelmingly to approve Cop City. I personally don’t understand how you can ignore all of that and just move forward. 1/

I’ve never in my entire life seen this kind of massive and sustained protesting for Palestinians, particularly from such a broad coalition. It’s so heartening. To be honest, the past few weeks put me in a really dark place. I didn’t think I’d ever make it out. 1/
So please hear me when I tell you that we cannot win this year if we stay on this path. I've never been a doomer. I try to be realistic, and I've always used polls as one of many tools to analyze an election year. The polls *and real world feedback* is bad right now. 3/
The letter says 2/22, but I emptied out my mail right after Sine Die on 3/29. JNF says it’s for “fighting antisemitism in Georgia” but the majority of the letter focuses on Israel. Idk how planting a tree, on Palestinian villages, helps with the fight against antisemitism. 7/
Y’all, I’m so touched that Leader

POTUS has done *everything and more* that the Israeli government has asked of him to the detriment of his coalition. As soon as he takes a tiny step to apply our laws the way we apply them everywhere else this is the response from Israel’s minister of national security. 1/
There is no reason for me to receive this. I publicly and with my vote opposed HB30. I have been very clear in my opposition to what Israel is doing. I even posted about JNF and how nefarious this is when a colleague shared their letter with me back in March. 6/
What’s really interesting is that yeah it’s an effective tactic, but in this case it was based on lies. When Pres. Biden was elected he introduced his signature Build Back Better legislation. It wasn’t progressives that killed it, but the “Problem Solvers Caucus.” 1/
One of the most effective attacks on vulnerable Dems this cycle in Dem primaries is a candidate “works against or undermines Joe Biden and the Democrats.” I would say a big part of the Bowman loss is because that attack was successful in his district.
As a Palestinian elected, I’m so grateful for

Cop city isn’t complicated. I’ve given plenty of opportunity for folks to reach out and no one has provided adequate answers for our questions. The simple reality is the community around the forest want the area cleaned up and developed *as they were promised in 2017.* 1/

It seems to me that political strategists and pundits keep missing that our biggest hurdle this election cycle isn’t Trump. It’s the couch. The reason so much energy is being spent begging y’all to course correct is because our base is depressed. We’re losing to the couch. 1/
I really want to know who is advising POTUS here. Even before October, 2023 was the deadliest year for Palestinians. In the West Bank, pogroms targeted multiple towns. Farms were burned. Entire towns were violently displaced. Settlement expansion reached a (then) record. 1/
President Biden: "By the way, I’m the guy who did more for the Palestinian community than anybody. I’m the guy that opened up all the assets. I’m the guy that made sure the Egyptians opened up the border to let goods through”

There are a lot of people who don’t believe contraception could be targeted but everyone said the same about Roe. Get involved with your local races now, because this will come to us.
Last, there is now serious distrust within our coalition. In 2020, the message was we'll hold each other accountable. Since then, the rise of blue MAGA has made that impossible. We can still change course, but we have to do it now. We have 114 days left. Let's make them count. 7/
Atlanta is one of the most heavily policed and surveilled cities per capita. This isn’t a law enforcement funding issue. It’s also not a mental health issue. It’s a gun issue. No amount of security can prevent this until we fix the source of the problem.

I want to take a second and talk about the CNN “exclusive” making the rounds. First, everything CNN releases from Gaza is checked by the IDF. You can see certain parts of the video are spliced as a result. Either way, there are no independent observers on the ground in Gaza. 1/
The Islamophobic and anti-Palestinian takes are back in full force so time to debunk some. If you cite fringe groups to tell me I’m wrong about my faith and culture that’s on you and you should ask yourself why those are your sources and not the millions of us. 1/
The antisemitism in the student protests is appalling and offensive. And it's all being paid for by the Jew George Soros who secretly controls our usurious banking system.
But that means nothing if the person with the largest pulpit cannot use it effectively, consistently, and aggressively to spread the message across the country as more of our coalition becomes rightfully angry about other policy issues. 6/
This is beyond absurd. The only legitimate option is VP Harris. It’s one thing to have serious conversations about the best path forward, it’s another to completely ignore the person whose job it is to step in. fwiw people seem really excited about her. 1/

In other words: not Kamala Harris.

There's a lot of genocide denial happening on this hell site today so let's dig into it. First, no the number of casualties was not cute in half. The reality is actually so much worse:
In 2022, when everyone panicked about a red wave, I ran for office and won along with multiple young people around the country. We not only prevented a red wave but turned new voters out in droves. In my district alone, we increased turnout by 10 percentage points. 2/

NEW: Israeli military and police personnel are tipping off extremists who attack and delay aid shipments bound for Gaza about the location of such convoys.
Impeding aid delivery is prohibited under US law and policy which

Biden has yet to enforce.
I remember running into
