Aside from the political reasons that make X unpalatable, it's harder to find worthwhile interactions among the vitriol & misinformation. I'm joining the exodus to BlueSky, following like-minded teachers & book lovers. Hopefully see you there @samcreighton.bsky.social 📚 ❤️ 👋

I don't really use X anymore, but it's worth popping back in to share this. Chris's work is always tip top and I can't wait to get my hands on my copy next week! I definitely recommend you getting one too.
My new book, Primary Reading Simplified, is released this Monday (27th January). Briefly, I'd like to explain why it exists, who I think will find it useful and where you can find it. >>

@CapelLofft The replies make me despair. I have 4 kids (8, 6, 4 & 2) & all have been or are sometime tricky at Mass. I can feel guilty but (a) it's important kids feel welcome in their Father's house & (b) I've never had anyone in any Catholic church be anything but lovely - I'm lucky!

@WritingRocks_17 My daughter was sitting in the car this morning, telling me about her day at Leeds Castle on Friday, while writing corresponding squiggles. No recognisable letters, but she was 100% writing the story.

@ChallenDr @one_to_read @MrEFinch I would love nothing more but I know I'd be committing myself to something I can't keep up with at the moment! I do miss the community and the chats though!

@Ash_Worth93 Which is fab, I'm lucky enough that mine did too. However, it's important to recognise the barriers to reading faced by different families. Very few parents don't support their kids due to a lack of will. We need to identify the barriers in our communities & help overcome them.

@Ash_Worth93 It's hard to encourage reading when you don't know how. The majority of parents don't lack the will, but they struggle with some combination of time, resources & knowledge. Schools can do lots to support but it has to go beyond schools too.

@Snotlady5 3) We know almost 1 million kids don't own a book & almost 200 libraries have closed in last decade. This predominately hits certain economic groups more, making it a social justice issue. Not all kids have equal access to the resources needed to develop a love of reading.

@Snotlady5 I agree, but the report shows a decline in enjoyment of reading (so kids aren't just not doing it, they don't want to). GCSE results don't bother me, reading helps academically but 🤷♂️ . What matters are the social, mental, emotional impacts a generation (& society) lose out on.
