Exciting day today in our journey from “you can’t start a company like that in the Midwest” to a legit “Cincinnati-founded Unicorn” - backed by the absolute greatest VC firms. The team is fired up to execute from here 🔥 So proud of what we’ve accomplished, and the vision forward

As a multiple-time founder, I’m looking to pay it forward and invest in other founders.
In my experience, first-time founders tend to get two things wrong:
(1) They’re not focused enough on storytelling as a direct pipeline to fundraising. If you can nail your story, then you
The Dual Flywheels of Modern Open Source Commercialization
1. Open source your core.
2. Build a managed SaaS around it ASAP.
3. Keep the OSS and SaaS flywheels spinning at ~ the same speed. Doesn’t have to be perfect.
4. If one starts spinning faster than
I am going to start a podcast about Postgres extensions.
Postgres extensions are not well understood, and I want to make them understandable by talking to the people who create them.
Extensions are so valuable to me and to the broader community, and awareness deserves to be
One of the most important things founders can do is support the ecosystem that supported them. That’s why I’m helping to launch a new
#StartupCincy

Fellow builders, founders, students, and investors - come gather for a peek at Cincinnati’s next great innovations.
Excited to be wrapping up my last iteration ever of talking to 30 potential investors in a ~week. It was exciting to have much inbound interest, but I've learned that I would have rather gone deeper with fewer, and taken my chances on that.
Join me at Union Hall on Nov 8th @ 5:30pm for the

Question for Twitter AI experts... What impact will the rise of LLMs have on "traditional" neural nets like FNNs (feedforward), CNNs (convolutional), RNNs (recurrent)?
This blog post needed to be written, thanks

Idea (maybe this exists?) LoadBalancer Bank - a virtual bank that auto-rebalances your cash into as many banks as necessary to maintain max 250k - like data infra, treat bank accounts as cattle not pets. Edit:
@mercury
does this with up to 4 banks, they call it sweep accounts $1M

We have a great relationship w Supabase - they have a great team and product.
First difference - we have different origin stories - they started as an alternative to firebase, we started because we think the full power of postres ecosystem OSS projects isn’t as accessible to
Beautiful Sunday afternoon in Cincinnati at our new property - caught a bass 🎣cleared brush 💪 it’s fun working on a big “non-software”project that will benefit my family directly - but now that the sun is going down, time to start hacking on 👨💻🔥
We have strong open source projects now two or three decades old and no signs of faltering (ie Linux, Postgres, Git)
It’ll be wild if these projects can get to 40, 50, 60 years old—and be “lifelong” fixtures for the entire career of some devs.
Great week, excited that

To check out Stacks, sign up @ , and you can also try installing any of the 150 categorized Postgres extensions that we've made available.
Startups are an infinite boxing match. You’re getting pummeled all the time with very real problems and setbacks, but you can and must punch like hell to get out of the corner—and make it to the next round :) the best founders find a way to enjoy the mayhem, but NONE of them are
What a strange time - ai/ml is bleeding into everything - “classic” databases can arguably be considered ai/ml tools, maybe even ai/ml platforms, quite possibly the big winners of the era if cards are played right - DATABASES! those boring things we rarely gave much thought to
I posted to LinkedIn recently:
"Learning Java is a waste of time for today’s college students. It’s not applicable to today’s cutting-edge tech market anymore." and got a lot of disagreement.
So let's dig into that hole deeper :)

OLTP - Postgres
Datawarehouse - Postgres (w columnar)
Search - Postgres (w pg_vector)
Queue - Postgres (w pgmq)
High volume ingestion - Postgres (it can handle it)
ML - Postgres (w PostgresML)
Need I go on… :)
Fun time yesterday exploring ways to add

Ended up using `clerk_fdw` and `pg_net` extensions to take advantage of both products APIs, and avoid having to "buy" a new product in the middle like Zapier.
Maybe I'll make a little screencast

We have a great relationship w Neon - they have a great team and product. I'm not just placating here :) My attitude is to support the other Postgres upstarts, the database market is $80B+ there's enough customer for everybody!
So Neon has taken on a big R&D challenge, making

Absolutely - nothing beats in-person for effective teamwork. However, there are often key hires that can only be found remote.
So hybrid wins for me, with regular team gatherings — excited to get the

I'm buying $GTLB tomorrow - bonkers the stock loses 1/3 of value (after hours) despite beating earnings and revenue, but because they want to halve their burn (and target less growth as a result).
the market wants them to keep pedal to the metal?
I'm ok w/ their plan.

Love this:
"There is a secret that needs to be understood in order to write good software documentation: there isn’t one thing called documentation, there are four. They are: tutorials, how-to guides, technical reference and explanation."
Some predicted it would never happen :) So proud of our team, and the entire Airflow community for its laser-focused execution. So many commits, so many great new features.
Airflow 2.0 is almost here.
An HA Scheduler. A new REST API. Smart Sensors. Task Groups. A modern UI... and so much more.
To those contributing - thank you. This is a huge milestone for

Stay tuned. 🤓🚀

Not everything gets replaced tho - Linux going strong - I think kubernetes will have a long run too, even tho ppl are itchy for new - Git still has legs, can’t point to big weaknesses, like we could with subversion and cvs and visual source safe (all hail Linus)
I end every zoom meeting asking "if you're signed into Github, would you go star our new public repos @ " — I wish it didn't matter, but it definitely does.
When you have teenage daughters using your Amazon account around Halloween, you may get interesting product recommendations
