Instead, side hustle until you find something viable.
This allows you to make growth decisions for a business rather than money decisions. There's a big difference sometimes.

Your conclusion that they are a scam is a bit far... They have a value prop that appeals to a mass audience. Which is to trade knowing how to do server admin for money. Most folks don't even know where to start when it comes to self hosting.

The reality is that we have made the barrier to entry so low for web dev that things like this happen, whereas if it was hosted on a VPS like 10 years ago, caching would have been explored long ago. Otherwise the site would have gone down. I get that we're all mad at the pricing

This happened to me in 2017 from changes they made. It wasn't a complete shut down, but their continued lock down of the api squeezed a bunch of us out over time. My business was at $123k/mo at one point and all down to zero in 2019.
